Kirby Pábalan-Táyag Aráullo is a renowned Filipino culture bearer and currently the National Coordinator for Culture and Heritage for NAFCON (Nafcon National Alliance for Filipino Concerns). He is a Dátû and Lakan by blood, a direct descendant of the last Paramount Kings of Luzon (of both Lakandúlâ of Tondo and Rája Matandá of Maynílâ, who are also of the Sultans of Sulu and Brunei, and of the ancient Mahārājas of the Majapahit Empire), and of the anti-colonial revolutionary Katipuneros. Dátû Kirby's upbringing exposed him to the contradicting worlds of traditional politics and grassroots activism.
Kirby is the co-founder of the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies at the University of California, Davis, and has been teaching Filipino people’s history and writing in indigenous Philippine scripts (Baybayin & Kulitan) for over a decade. We had been singing what we called "Bayang Magiliw" since 1959, when I was in Grade III. In grade I ( 1957) we used to sing "Land of the Morning " until 1958. It was only after the death of Pres Magsaysay that we sang it in Tagalog. I remember this quite well, because the father of my classmate in Grade I died in that plane crash in Mt. Manunggal. This is why, I think you have to do more research on when the Tagalog version of the National Anthem was first sung officially. We were already singing in Tagalog in high school (1963-67). That time ,we still have a Spanish subject in 4th year ( 1966-67) and we were required to sing the National Anthem in Spanish "Tierra Adorada"
Hi, thank you po for sharing ❤️. What I was referring to is the version of "Lupang Hinirang" that is used today. Yes, there have been many Tagalog versions of the anthem, as I've mentioned in the video, but the one that is currently the official one dates back to a revision from the 60s. 😊

@dj kaizar palma I never said it was palgiaraized. It was translated from Pabalan’s original Kapampangan poem into the Spanish one by Palma, I never claimed it was plagiarized. Palma and Pabalan were friends and were both revolutionaries.
José Palma may have been born in Tondo and grew up speaking Tagálog due to his father's work, but his family and roots were originally from Bacúlud (Bacolor). He even fought as part of the Kapampangan regiment under Don Servillano Aquino during the Philippine-American War and saw action in both Angeles and Bamban, Tarlac. The Palmas have deep roots in Bacolor, in fact they were prominent ilustrados of Bacolor and many of their relatives are still well known in Bacolor's society. There was even a famous “Orchestra Palma” during this time in Bacolor. Crissot (Juan Crisostomo Soto, another famous 19th century playwright) was also close friends with both Mariano Proceso Pabalan y Byron and Jose Palma. Crissot actually married Palma's own sister, and their descendants are still prominent in Kapampangan society, in fact they inherited and carried on the literary traditions of both Crissot and Jose Palma.
Also, Tondo was historically part of the Kapampangan homeland, it was only until recently that it became predominantly Tagalog. Even Bonifacio, perhaps the most famous son of Tondo, was known to have Kapampangan roots. In fact even the original Pampanga province (under Spain) included Tondo and the lands beyond Tondo, extending to most of Central Luzon. Pasig river was known to be the dividing line between the Tagalogs and the Kapampangans, especially during the Spanish colonial period.

I have this kind of behavior that I always felt so proud when ever i hear different dialects of our language whenever i go to sursugon Negros Occidental Batangas La Union I felt so proud for my country, I start watching and searching about different culture in my country, I also become so obsessed studying different country in southeast Asia thinking why the Tagalog and Malay sound so very similar? whenever I see buildings that have a letter of baybayin i felt so happy thinking what if we never colonize? did our country still become a catholic religion? after hearing our national anthem of our country even i cant understand it there something inside me makes me happy. ty for this video.
I believe that RA 8491 ought to be amended and allow rendition of our national anthem in different Philippine languages, English, and Spanish without the risk of being imprisoned. I think each regions should sing the anthem first in their respective vernacular and then in Spanish version (a way to bring back Spanish as a spoken language in the country by instilling into the hearts of Filipinos the original language of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo).
We ought to be able to sing it in the Original language (Philipine Spanish) it was published every 3rd of September, the anniversary of when the lyrics was first published via the 3rd September, 1899 issue of La independencia. Moreover, we should also be given free reign to sing it in the Regional Philippine Languages. And that we only have to sing it in Filipino when it's a nationwide event. I especially give my sympathies to those who did the effort of translating the tagalog lyrics into Chabacano in an article I read, they even made an even were they sung it patriotically, but instead of appreciation for the effort of accurately translating it, they were instead berated for not singing in Tagalog, some even thought it was Spanish.

I hope you know Mr. Historian the Confederation of Visayas and Republic of Zamboanga that Aguinaldo tried to have submission in his revolutionary government.
I am sure he knows but he must remain objective. Aguinaldo only cared about himself not the entire archipelago. I support a parliamentary / Evolving Federalism system in the Philippines. In my opinion it is one of the form of government we need in a heterogeneous archipelago. If you look at other videos he did a 2 part content about who is Aguinaldo.

That's in fact not unique to the Philippines... nation-states were only promoted in the 19th Century/1800's... not even Germany, Italy, Greece, India, Indonesia or Saudi Arabia were unified countries by then... they also had multiple ethnic groups that had been unified under a common "national identity".

If possible, I would like to know better my Kapampangan roots wherein my Apung originated in Macabebe with the last name Musñgi as middle name of my late father. I truly appreciate all your videos and wanted to learn more about my roots even though I grew up in Manila. Unfortunately we did not learn to speak the language. God bless and dacal a salamat! I recently got in a argument which does not know that the original version of the Philippine National Anthem which is Kapampangan. Luckily I saw this video to show as prove and explains well all the roots of the song. It is a shame for me as a Pilipino not knowing Kapampangan and the other Philippine Languages

Not necessarily Malaysia or Malaysian ties in our present-day understanding of the term. Back then Malasia/Malaysia referred to the entire Malay archipelago or what are now 🇵🇭🇲🇾🇮🇩🇧🇳🇸🇬. In fact the Philippines was almost renamed to Malaysia by our own founding fathers who were strong advocates of pan-Malayan consciousness from the 1890s to the 1960s. Mabini himself was an advocate of renaming the Philippines as Malaysia long before the territories of British Malaya adopted the name Malaysia in 1963.
