It's been 2 years since I watched this video and that much time enjoying and discovering all the great things about my 2240xl. Wasn't happy with the grips...so changed them out for some ebony wood. Looks and feels great. This little honey also gets more accurate with age. Some 20,000 pellets later it shoots sweeter and sweeter. And...I finally put it over a crono...and it is shooting at over 500 fps...for the first few shots. What's not to love. And all for $140.Get one.
I love the progress that air guns in general are making. We already got airguns (rifles) that will drop most large game like nothing and hit velocities close to 1700 fps, and I'm patiently waiting, and hoping, that the air pistols will follow the same path and become a lot more powerful. Great video as usual! Thanks for all you do, its appreciated!
I bought one as a gift for my father-in-law who only likes “real” guns (with a red dot sight). He LOVED it!! It’s not loud, perfectly backyard friendly even in a suburban neighborhood. There’s nothing wrong with the stock trigger either. I like it better than any of the replica semi-auto air pistols I have.
Good review ! I've got a 1/2 dozen of these ,all set up differently. My favorite has a 6 position collapsible and foldable stock and a 5"x1.3" od moderator from Buck-Rail . Cost of all the add ons was less than $100.00.
We have built some wicked 2240s... I have a 25 inch LW 12 groove barrel on a pcp 2240 I built a while back. It's setup with a B&M multishot breech, 25 inch LW. 22 barrel that i worked over, a custom made walnut stock, Prod trigger group, Hawke Sidewinder, 45ci 4500psi carbon bottle, lazer etched tube(not stamped) a drop block that runs to the valve so tube isn't pressurized and valve is pinned, custom made valve, transfer port opening and a bunch more. Its shooting 1 to 1.25 minute at a 100y with NSA 28.5g at 61ftlbs with a reg pressure of 2800psi. Its a beast.. on that bottle the shot count is around 100shots on a 4500psi charge with a ES of around 11fps and a 1.5fps SD. Its lighter then my Impacts and does a hell of a fine job for taking swamp rats down here in FL that really tear up the ground they get pretty damn big.... its a gun I'm not concerned with scratches like I am with my big money guns.. I have taken them out to 150y with consistancy. The NSA 28.5s expand great at the energy levels it pushes them ... pass thru won't happy on large nutrients on closer shots as say a JSB monster will just pass right thru on a vital area shot the slugs won't they open up and dump every thing quickly. There's a lot of work on these guns (we built two just like this one one for me and one for hubby) and we have built and own a lot of 2240, 2250 and 2260 builds all pcp converted. We do have a few builds that we run on PCP and bulk Co2 and they are great as well because just a simple tank change and go from 30ftlb on regulated HPA down to 10 to 12ftlbs on Co2 with just the bottle change and a couple turns on the hammer spring adjustment.. its really nice having guns that can go from 30 ftlbs to 6ftlbs with just a bottle change and hammer adjustment. We have between us prolly close to 20 22xx builds and love them to death. No other gun has the custom to your wants ability then the 22xx guns... you literally can build anything you want with them and can own 100 builds and all 100 of them could be totally unique of each other it truly is amazing how custom they can be made. Gmac offers exactly what you need to make them HPA without pressurized tubes and I love that. I do have some that have pressurized tubes (we use laser etched tubes that we get from Baker airguns on all builds pressure in tube or not for safety reasons and never do HPA on a stock tube with the tube being a pressure vessel above about 1200psi and always pin the valve) and its totally fine with pinned valve on the non stamped tubes but always prefer just using a drop block and a Gmac bulk co2/hpa unit over pressurized tubes. 20in barrel, hot valve, 2260 tube on a Bulk fill Co2 setup is easily a prefect 15ftlb gun and normally capable of sub inch 10 shot 50 yard groups on a worked Crosman barrel and huge amount of shots on a fill with say a 9oz bottle your talking 400 to 600 shots (depending on how hot or cold it is where you are) and 15ftlb is easily achived without a large gas waste....20ftlb is doable on that type setup as well but you will use a LOT more gas to get that extra 5ftlbs.... keep it 12 to 15ftlbs with a heavy pellet the barrel likes and a 9oz bottle will shoot a tin of pellets.
Good review Rick! It looked like that 2240 preferred the Red Fire's over the Vortex's. Best way to get better at free hand is just to practice. But to be fair that stock trigger is garbage. Once I put a 2 stage trigger on mine it was night and day in accuracy.
Also...my 2240 DOES NOT like crossman ammo... Go figure.Too many flyers. Found that HN ammo works best. Loves em...eats em up! A few duds, but otherwise true to target. Loved the upload. Shine on.
Something to think about if buying a gun for best control,...A CO2 gun may have to sit for long periods before it's needed, or, when it is used, there may be a lot of CO2 left and, there again, it may sit for some time afterwards......A multi pump is a much better option. I have chosen the 1322 over the 2240 for this reason....and still have just as many mods to choose from.....14" barrel for longer sight radius and shoulder stock to start....
Hey Rick do you know if they still make the weaver style steel breech you have on your 2240? I’ve looked online for them and the only place I’ve seen that sells them are out of stock. Is there anywhere else to get one?
Hey Rick, Great Video. I always heard great things about the 2240, glad there's a 2240xl now. Btw, is there a noticeable increase in fps and fpe when using the Gamo Red Fire or other such lighter alloy pellets? Also, what is the maximum effective range for this pistol, and are the mod stock and longer barrel that work with the 1322 compatible with the 2240xl? Thanks. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.
I would like to purchase this over the standard 2240 for the build quality. I have no interest in putting an optic on a pellet pistol as I use it as home training tool for EDC powder guns. I am aware of the Crosman rear sight accessory ($$!!) but what to do for a front sight blade? Is there an offering I missed in your online catalog?
A quick question Rick I tried to take one of mine apart to turn into carbine setup and after getting the breach screw out as well as everything else it's not coming apart. I own 2 the first was always intended to be used as a pistol and both look like breach and tube are one. I know it's not making any sense until I tried to get into one. I've tried emailing crosman but up here in Canada some times it's not that easy and no one else has been able to answer this question for me. Do I need to perhaps use some force perhaps the blueing or powder coating what ever they use is making it stick. Please anyone out there can you help me
Jerry, It's been a long time since I've been inside of one of these. I know that Airgun Angie did a series on the older 2240 and did the breach upgrade as part of it. I'd reach out to her and see if she's got any tips for you. Cheers AGW
Nicely done sir. I appreciate your using a rest. In an accuracy test I want to see how accurate the pistol is with as much of the human factor removed from the equation. Do you know if there are any mods to the 2240 to increase it's power?
you can add a power adjuster and or put a longer barrel on it, there's a video of a guy changing to a 24 inch barrel and a stronger hammer spring it brought the fps up to 750 or so.
@@tedsell1455 Not sure what you know about them, but they are super easy to work on, and if you change the hammer spring to a weaker one you can get more shots, but may not lose much power. There are even adjustable ones you can adjust without taking the gun apart.
Rick , Have you heard of Buckrail-line airgun accessories? I recently discovered them and am a staunch supporter . Check them out and pass the word. I Thing you are probably the most respected reviewer shooter , you have big time credibility. Love to hear your feedback . I have 2 of these pistols one moded to a carbine .
All that bling 🤑 and you shoot like crap 💩 😂 JK I like it,mine is just regular one,no fancy steel breach just a Plain Jane, same as his brother 1322 and sister 1377 ,,I love them all but pellets and CO2 is getting expensive. I find pellet shooting very relaxing..No scopes for me…
Never, never, never, try to kill anything with a pistol. All you will do is injure the animal and it will run away and then die hours or days later in agony. If you are going to try pest control use a rifle to kill it outright. It is totally irresponsible to use a pistol

Original air guns were used in war and hunting a few hundred years ago. Lewis and Clark expeditions used a PCP airgun.

Hello Rick, great video. I ordered this exact gun and scope combo because of your video. Thank you !

@TheDrum2010 I have videos 📹 specifically on the 2240XL I'm sure you'll enjoy, ✔️ them out whenever you get time
We could've did the up grade they shouldve made it with the 9 round magazine's like the diana's handguns

They forgot to make a better trigger. Good video Sir.
Pretty cool little upgrade, I have the old school 2240 and it shoots great. Why doesn't crosman make a moderator for it?
Great job.. Just picked up a regular 2240
@First State Airgun One more for the collection, Nice! 1977 next on the list? 👍
@@gmanneod8085 Definitely.. My daughter got it for me for da birthday.. I was so surprised!! 1977 is a must.
I just got this combo but with the 1x20 red dot instead and its just awesome 😎
What was the circular magazine that was shown on one of the customized pistols? I’m wondering if there’s an altenative to the English Gravmag.
There is. It’s a custom breech but it’s very expensive. If I remember correctly it costs around 110 usd
Those couple of Fliers could be the lubrication in the system , then it settled. Never thought much about these . They appear worthy .
You can not beat that HAWKE red dot. I was placing dime size groups after just a few adjustments.
I also have great videos 📹 on the 2240XL & several others I'm sure you'll enjoy
Kind of want one with a stock on it to do some mouse control. Throw my Donny FL on it and it’ll probably be quiet enough for indoor use.
Hey Rick do u think adding a suppressor to the 2240xl will maintain that same velocity & power for a jack rabbit or squirrel 🐿️
If you are getting what you need from it stock, adding a short moderator should not effect velocity or accuracy. Let us know how it goes!
Cheers

@@AirGunWeb ok will do.
Worked like a charm
The steel breach also aids in accuracy...barrel is more stable.
2240 is a classic

@@AirGunWeb thank you for the response!! Love your videos!
Nice but I prefer regular sights.
49 airguns and only one scoped because it had no sights.
Good video Rick. Quick question. How long can you leave a CO2 cartridge in for?
probably 48h
Another customizable one 1377 and 1322
Great except for highly strippable breech screw when you want to make mods requiring breech removal.
I've taken a 2240 apart dozens of times and have yet to strip one. They don't need to be that tight.
Never stripped one myself. A bit of finesse goes a long way.

Does it come with a magazine or was that for show?
What are the threads on the barrel? Would they be ½" x 20 maybe?
@54sec shows the pistol with a clip/magazine, anyone have a link for that?
Good video content Rick,..I'd like to see more done with CO2 'fueled' hand guns. I have one of the older 2240's and it still shoots really well.
yes sir !
Is there a way to get open sights on this ?
Black gun against black shirt is invisible. And 12 yards is in fact exactly 36 feet.

Yep I've got almost 3 times what the bone stock gun is in aftermarket parts and accessories on my 2240XL lol
More expensive than my g3? Don't think so
Looks like a good pistol, but I've fallen out o favor with CO2... got tired of wasting CO2, I've never shot more than 20- 30 shots.
With the 2240, you only get about 40 full power shots.
