I bought a tin. Definitely not for me. Tin note of Redman chewing tobacco. Tasted of cheap cigar with a room note of "If I smoke this in the house my wife will kill me." A very strong blend that makes my stomach hurt if I haven't eaten. Definitely a deeper, more complex blend than my description implies, just not for me personally. Thanks for another great video.
Curious, have you tried/do you like HH Burley Flake? I personally love it, and it made me appreciate Burley, but I find C&D Burley blends to be a little unrefined.
@@mndfst9433 I honestly can't remember if I've tried those. My tastes are definitely changing. I one couldn't handle English blends but now I like them a lot. Virginia blends have been okay for me as well. I most often smoke codger blends or aromatics to keep the Mrs. happy. The stronger stuff has to wait for the weather to be pleasant enough for sitting outside.
Thank you both for your input. Not all Burley driven blend are the same. Some Burley based blends are delicious with a distinct earthy chocolatey note to them. Someone recommended a codger blend called Granger by STG apparently in his opinion it is better than the now available Mac Baren Burley London. I am hoping to get hold of that blend so I can try it myself.
Well…… some people love it. Some people hate it. Some people don’t care. I am smoking it now and I just ordered a pound of the bulk Haunted Bookshop 😎. 18:28 Have you considered ordering an ounce of Virginia and building your own Haunted mixture?
As you say😊 I tried a few mixing blends but to be honest as a general rule I rather depend on the experience of the blender who has a vast knowledge & experience far superior to my limited experience and not ruin the original blend. My opinion😊
Hi Nathan finally i had some time to watch your latest video which i enjoyed as always very relaxing watch. I never tried this blend sounds interesting though as i do love the honey sweet earthiness of the bokser fruit which i grew up eating those in Italy. Enjoy your week mate
You would be pleased to know that i filled my bowl with the very same blend you are describing😁 If you recall i told you that a family relation was in the US and i asked her to bring me back some blends you recommended. The Haunted Bookshop was my pick and i could not agree more with your description. Musty, spicy & earthy with a lovely dark fruit sweet note. I ordered a few tins and i am very happy i did as i love it, mind you Beth is not overly pleased with the room note 😂Most enjoyable video for a weekend watch. Thanks Nathan. Regards. Daniel.
Oh, that’s is so nice, Daniel I am happy you finally got yourself some US blends. Enjoy this one I figured it is right up your alley😀 also I can assume the musty room note is not Beth favourite. I would love to know what her reaction is when you smoke the Cult red blood moon I bet she loves that room note😊 enjoy them all.
I would love a comparison between this and Old Joe Krantz (brown), because I adore OJK, which has more Perique, and haven’t seen much in the way of reviews of both in the same place. Thanks!
My fist impression I thought it was a complex smoke. Have smoked almost a pound of it now. Think it's a great smoke but wonder if a little more Virginia would have been a better smoke for me. I do enjoy it very much
Hi Nathan, i love this blend so much, and i prefer it as it is. No need for more Virginia in my opinion, to take a break from sweet blends this will be the remedy. In general i love burley’s. Thank you Nathan for great effort in this channel
Excellent 👌 as I always say we all have our taste preferences and we are lucky we have available all different blends to suit all palates. I will allow it to age for a bit longer and give it another go.
The favourite and most liked tobacco by Matches860, who indeed was and still is a burely index ❤ enjoy it when you can, where I live you will never find such a treasure, have a good day :)
It took me a bit of time as well to fully appreciate the dark side of this blend😊 I really enjoy it now. Smoking slow is always advisable especially this one.
Hmm. I like burley, but I have to sip it very slowly, or my tongue will get irritated. A bit of the "burley curse." Good description of burley flavor, 'though; thank you!
I have the Haunted Bookshop Cake here. Nice smelling and tasting blend but hard to smoke. It’s a crumble cake but the tobacco parts are so small that they clog my pipe. I tried to pluck bigger pieces but they always crumble to almost microscopically tiny particles. It is like you try to fill your pipe with tobacco dust. This doesn’t work very well. Regards Michael
Interesting that Michael 🤔 As you can see the leaf when I showed the open tin right in the beginning of the review. My blend is sort of a mix between ribbon & cut flake & smokes perfectly all along the bowl with hardly any re-lights. I wonder if the Haunted bookshop is sold with different leaf cut.
@@TheVapingPiper Yes, there are two varieties. In Germany they only sell the Haunted Bookshop Cake. The regular tobacco like yours is not available here. It seems they took the regular HB ribbon cut and pressed it into a cake. This broke every ribbon into tiny pieces. Packing (i don’t push) these pieces into my pipe, they fill up every space of the bowl and no room left for air. That makes it so difficult to smoke.
Very interesting. Thanks for the info. By pack it loose in lower third for air circulation & a bit tighter then usual on the top doesn’t help? Anyway enjoy it the best you can
Beautiful pipe, Nathan. I myself are on a hunt for a few pipes, and one of the shapes I'd like to see in my collection are Zulu's. As for the HB blend, initially 4 years ago when I popped the tin open I was not enjoying it as much, now with some age on it I can enjoy it more. Great content as always, looking forward to the next. Salud and Feliz humos! Best, Charlie
C&D Three Friars, I'm told, is basically HB but with more Virginia.
Good to know. Thanks for the info
A daily go to favorite of mine. You inspired me to fire up an evening bowl to watch this video. Cheers 🍻
That is excellent Travis I love it when someone is enjoying the blend while I am talking about it 😊

Love Haunted Bookshop cake. I smoke a bowl every morning in a Jirsa Nosewarmer. Great stuff imo.
Oh wow that is fantastic. Enjoy
Nice to see a review of a favorite of mine from this side of the pond.
Thanks😊
Thanks Nathan. Love the pipe.
Thanks Richard.

Thanks Gary. The tin’s aroma is exactly that, you also taste it in the smoke albeit in a milder way. Next time we meet I will bring you some😊

This is one of those blends that seems to be love/hate for many. I’m in the love camp because I like the rougher side of burley.
Yes it is one of those😊 enjoy

I don’t have the OJK currently

I agree John a bit more Virginia would have mellowed it down & added some sweetness. Regardless it is a quality blend.
Good Morning 😊 Awesome Review👌🏽 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the blend 👏🏼 I enjoyed it a lot 😋 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks Yusuf. Take care
Already I ordered a tin of the same blend. Now i will save the video and comeback later to see the review while i am smoking it😎
Nice😊 looking forward for your feedback

Hi, I love the HB you should try the HB cake it seams to bring out the Virginia more.
Thanks for your suggestion👍

Thanks for your feedback. Shame you can’t get to try it for yourself
I really started liking this one once I slowed down with it. It can be really hot and unpleasant if you go too fast and aggressive with it.
It took me a bit of time as well to fully appreciate the dark side of this blend😊 I really enjoy it now. Smoking slow is always advisable especially this one.

Thanks 🙏 I live in London UK

Thanks Charlie. The Zulu shape is somewhat different yet elegant. I agree probably aging will improve the HB.
I didn't like it either....
Thanks for your input. I will allow to age and try it again
