Saturday, the final day of the week, was originally known as Laugardag (formed from Loki's name, but it translates to wash-day). When adapted to English, the day did in fact maintain its connection to Loki. The word Saturday is based on Sataere (the thief in ambush
In Portuguese the names for the days are very simple, you just have to count: Monday = segunda (second) Tuesday = terca (third) Wednesday = quarta (forth) Thursday = quinta (fifth) Friday = sexta (sixth) The exceptions are Saturday (sabado) and Sunday (domingo). Sabado comes from "Shabat" (the seventh day of the week)... That's why Monday is called "second" (segunda) in Portuguese. The first day of the week is Sunday (believe it or not... It comes after the last day "shabat"/sabado). The names are not capitalized.
Thank you for your explanation, easy to understand and easy to remember ,your quietness and lovely voice do the rest ..... great job I will put it on place in my classes, from Marbella, Congratulations
In Tamil too it is like, Nyayiru ( Sunday) - Sun Thingal(Monday) - Moon Chevvaai(Tuesday) - Mars Bhudhan(Wednesday) - Mercury Vyaazhan or Vyaalan (Thursday) - Jupiter Velli (Friday) - Venus Sani (Saturday) - Saturn
True! the only exceptions in the modern southern culture are Saturday and Sunday. We use "sábado" for Saturday and that doesn't make reference to a god, but to the Latin word "sabbătum" that means to rest. Because Saturday was the 7th day in the Christian week and it is stated in the Bible as the only day for resting. "Domingo" for Sunday, is derived from the word "dominico" that means "the day of the Lord "
Thank you Gill ! A very clear and detailed correlation of the origin of the names of the days of the week and pagan Gods connected with the Planets. I am definately into Astronomy as well as christian religion ( Biblical Christianity to be exact). You have objectively explained these interrelationship between these pagan gods and the true meaning of Christianity and interconnect them with English, German, French and Teutonics Pagan names. Congratulations Gill, great teaching job. Thank you.
In Spanish, Lunes, 🌙 luna Martes, Marte Miércoles, Mercurio Jueves, Júpiter Viernes, Venus Sábado, Saturno Domingo, dies domenica (the lord's Day) I prefer the sun's day though. Great lesson!
In Arabic: Sunday: Al-Ahad: the one Monday: Al-Ithnain: the two Teusday: Al-Tholatha: the three Wednesday: Al-Arbia: the four Thursday: Al-Khamees: the five Friday: Al-Jomoa: the gathering / the meeting Saturday: Al-Sabt: the rest / the staying / the calm / the not working
In Finnish Wednesday is "keskiviikko" = middle week and Saturday is "lauantai" = washing day .All the other days are etymologically same as in English.
In Swedish ”lördag” is short for lögaredagen, the day you take a bath. The finnish word for Wednesday seems to be related to the german word, Mittwoch which also means ”mid week”.

I've found this lesson randomly. But it was very intresting and useful. Thanks!
She knows how to teach!
I really love her classes!
She is a wonderful teacher. A best one would not be possible.👑
In Tamil too it is like,
Nyayiru ( Sunday) - Sun
Thingal(Monday) - Moon
Chevvaai(Tuesday) - Mars
Bhudhan(Wednesday) - Mercury
Vyaazhan or Vyaalan (Thursday) - Jupiter
Velli (Friday) - Venus
Sani (Saturday) - Saturn
This really makes sense, we're all the same and connected by the same beliefs and traditions.
Beautiful. Thanks for increasing knowledge. As I'm studying French now a days, so your lesson helped me double.
in italian (and spanish) days of the week are named after gods the same as in french just different spell and sound.
Sim, sì vèro
marilisa De S. Yes, that's right! Es verdad! :)
Es cierto...
Claro, si los españoles y franceses son latinos, como italianos- todo llevamos de latín.
True! the only exceptions in the modern southern culture are Saturday and Sunday.
Wow, what an adorable teacher. I see her like a Bird resting on the pole. I would love having her as my English teacher.
Love your videos, very educational. Thank you for posting!!
Thank you.
In Spanish,

She is a good teacher. Respect!
I will forever call Thursday, Thor's day now.
Best English lesson I have even experienced, thank you so much !
In Finnish Wednesday is "keskiviikko" = middle week
and Saturday is "lauantai" = washing day .All the other days are etymologically same as in English.
In Swedish/Danish/Norwegian "Lördag" = Bath day.
Interesting
In Swedish ”lördag” is short for lögaredagen, the day you take a bath. The finnish word for Wednesday seems to be related to the german word, Mittwoch which also means ”mid week”.
My favourite lady explained everything as usual so well.I love 💘
You are a wonderful teacher!! I liked this video thank you so much ❤
she sounds delightful! Very interesting! and the link with the german and french language is fantastic. Thank you!
