Getting laid off is the best thing that can happen to you. You either 1. Get a better paying job or 2. Start your own thing So never complain about getting laid off!
My Brother-in-law was laid off after 35 years of being a machinist for a company. He and his work partner were working mandatory overtime. He was suddenly laid off. First was the shock, then worry, then anger for a minute then relief that he didn’t ever have to go back. He was prepared because every year there were huge layoffs. He got a great severance package and is enjoying retirement till he decides to try something new.
I appreciate the good energy, but I have been un employed for more than a year. The Proximity Principle is a great book but it seems that we are in a weird economy - I am a Software Engineer
I am a Principal Process (Chemical) Engineer with 35 years of Refining operation and design experience. I live in Toronto, Canada for the past 21 years and had found a 'good' job within 2 months of my immigrating. I went off to earn 200 k CAD within the first 14 years of my good work. Then there was a fall in crude price which led to cancellation of all expansion projects and I was laid off (I was 56) because of no work and me being at the higher rung of the 'salary ladder'. I am 63 now and now being rejected as 'overqualified'. I am passing thru stress, sadness, shock and anger. How do I get another job as I am not ready for retirement and have mortgage and other bills to pay? Please help with your advice. I am positive minded and know my potential. However, I lack the lady luck to get myself recognized in another job.
If they give you a 30-day notice and allow you to bank another months salary then by all means take it, do the bare minimum and let them pay you to job hunt.

Statistically, 90% of people who get laid off after the age of 50 never make the same money or more ever again. So it’s not always the best thing.
@@edhcb9359 where is the statistic?

That sounds horrible for him.
Always full of "golden nuggets" of hard-won wisdom!
The Ken Coleman Show has become my favorite show on TH-cam. He's so humble and fantastic.

It's not right to get laid off at work. Getting laid is only for outside of work behind closed doors. People these days!!
