    What I love about this film is that Beyonce tells a beautiful story that connects not only to herself, but to a larger cultural demographic that’s been under appreciated for a long time (aka black queer culture with ballroom and house music). To have this group of people be celebrated and recognized at such a large scale, and to do it authentically and with care is so amazing to see.

    watching this entire thing put a smile on my face, beyonce is a household name, but her actual talent and work is so underrated and under-appreciated (partly her lack of exposure or promotion). some things need to be said, especially from the prominent music critics.

    You have to remove yourself from the situation regarding Blue. Her lessons wouldn't really compare to a "normal" kid. She is so privileged. That a lesson of working hard for her spot at 11 year olds would be monumental. She knows how hard her mom works. And I believe she fully now understands her mom is BEYONCE and knows how much hard work means to that Brand.

    "I think she's still growing" oh absolutely. What I have come to notice about Beyonce is that she is pacing herself. We're still, and I hope I'm right in saying this, yet to receive her best work.

    i feel like it isn't fair to criticize the film just because the album wasn't your favorite. and you also can't say this album isn't her best work just because you personally don't like the sound of it lol. this album wasn't made for straight, white men so it's okay if it doesn't resonate with you, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. i think it was beautiful that Beyonce used her art and talent to pay homage to the black queer community and the ballroom scene.

    I really wish you guys would have asked a Beyonce scholar or fan to join you on this conversation. And the fact that you haven’t even seen the live show…? I was at the show in Seattle in the cheap seats and the immersive experience can’t be compared to the film. Also, Blue is literally 11 y’all. That’s 5th/6th grade. I feel like since she’s looks older, you feel more comfortable critiquing her. The vibe at the show was very much like, this is my daughter and I’m sharing the stage and this moment with her… not “giving” her stardom. It’s not like there was a competition with other 11 year olds? It was a family moment showcasing the black power, womanhood and lineage themes of My Power.

    • @plantgayforlife
      @plantgayforlife 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Whatever Beyonce's intentions were, she absolutely 'gave her daughter stardom' by allowing her on stage. Nothing wrong with that. But don't think someone performing on stage should be exempt from criticism just because of their age. When you put yourself out there, you have to be prepared for the peanut gallery. Blue listened to the criticism and improved her dancing. She realized she can't just dance next to mom and think she will get the same reaction her mom gets from the crowd. She put in the work and it made her a better performer. If no one criticized her, she never would've tried to improve and would still be a bad dancer.

    Enjoying this conversation so far! I'm at the moment when they talk about the Blue Ivy sequence... this wasn't Blue's first time performing or doing anything with her mom. This was the first stadium crowd but there's been music videos, photoshoots, the live performance of "Be Alive", etc. I don't understand the "nepo baby" argument in general. People are likely to be interested and want to participate in the world they're apart of - what else is it supposed to be?

    I havent seen the Madonna documentary, but its sounds like the drama and controversy carry the film. On the rennaissance tour at least one dancer had an injury another had a death in their family the show malfunctioned many times and im sure there were other dramas. Thankfully the rennaissance film doesn't exploit those dramas and keeps an appreciative view on the tour process and music.

      Like clockwork, of course here comes a white gay man to dismiss the legitimate criticism of the short sighted and ill informed critiques in the video. These white critic's unfamiliarity with the depth of references, historical context, and musical heritage explored in the album and visual representation colored their perception and led to multiple incorrect interpretations of the messages and intent of the work. They do not and cannot comprehensively understand what makes this album culturally resonant to the people for whom it was made, ie the black queer community. You as a white gay man are in the same boat and your critiques and opinion on the matter will always be inadequately informed and lacking in the experiential depth needed for them to be considered credible criticisms. I think a review can be done. Footage from the concert itself is beyond impressive and the behind the scenes takes are great. Yes, you miss the immersive experience from the concert itself but what you do get on film is so striking that it can be reviewed. The concert-goers who went should count themselves lucky. But the movie-goers can have a blast as well.

    Beyonce WATCHED AND STUDIED MADONNA. Madonna is the only other female THEATRICAL PERFORMER. Madonna is a BLUE PRINRT Beyonce's very aware. I watched Truth or Dare a while ago, Hearing the revues and seeing snippets, of Renaissance it was reminiscent of Truth or Dare. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Another point made was the balance of power. Professionalism is Beyonce's first middle and last name. She is way too much of a control freak to find herself jammed up in litigation with her employees for blurring the lines (LIZOO) Truth or Dare was in 91-92 and was sued by one of the dancers. In this social media era where your career can be destroyed by opportunists overnight, she's beyond careful. Beyonce has studied all these past cases, from Elvis to Whitney, Michael & Madonna. Beyonce is smart enough to join forces with Taylor, knowing that her untapped creativity will never quench. She's been doing this for 25 years, TS is 15 years into her career, it's her moment, Beyonce has no problem playing the second fiddle because she knows that 8 years from now at 50 she will have a new album,, theme, dances, etc and Taylor dream teenage fantasies he broke up with my boyfriend won't hold up. What I found interesting in talking about the choice length was Taylor flew (even by private jet) all the way to London and back . That is a huge favor, so yes I'm interested in the compromise that was made as it felt very dated having Blake Lively there in London as well (circa 2011-13)
