After growing up with Billy Joel’s version (and living through most of what he was singing about), I absolutely love FOB’s part two of the song.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't think Olivia wants to be a "Popstar" and I don't think thats how she views herself. She definitely cares more about her songwriting than anything else and I think once she gets this second and third albums out of the way. I think we will start seeing her focusing more on writing for others and maybe putting her own stuff out here and there. This is at least what she says she wants to do. I def don't think she wants to be Taylor or Adele level famous and be touring when she is their age. She seems way more anxious and introverted than them (although i do think that has to do with age too) . I could see her doing the Lorde thing where she puts albums out but then is super quiet and recluse to her own friends and family like she has been the last two years. Obv I could be wrong but seeing her before Drivers License fame and after. She seems pretty uncomfortable with it all. So it will be interesting to see if that changes as she becomes more confident as she grows

One thing I noticed right away in Fall Out Boy's lyrics, very few if any of them were in chronological order. Still, it was a nice attempt.

Question for future episode: What do you make of the increasing presence that James Blake seems to be having on the hip-hop genre, given the artists he is working with JID, Travis Scott, Don Toliver and more. I know the Guardian did a piece back in 2019, and since then, it seems like it's only become more noticeable. Curious to hear your thoughts on how he has been shaping/unshaping/reframing the genre, and how it connects to the mainstream zeitgeist?

Rodrigo reminds me of Taylor Swift lyrically emoting through a 90’s era Fiona Apple flux capacitor. She’s not original…she’s Fiona Apple and quite possibly a dash of Alannis Morrisette, doing Taylor Swift. That’s the thing y’all can’t quite put your finger on, in my opinion. You outta know. Pun intended. 80’s call back thrown in for free bc I’m old, lol

This "Popcast" thing should have its own channel. No disrespect to that team, but I'm subscribed herel for the serious Visual Investigations and Op-Docs. Whenever these "Popcasts" get uploaded, it makes me want to unsubscribe. It's a bit strange never knowing if a notification from this channel is going to be a hard-hitting Ukraine war doc, or a podcast about McDonalds memes on TikTok.

Yeah I had to unsub just now. Love the mini-docs and the on site reporting, but between this and the movie scenes they sometimes put up here, it's an uneven experience. The mystery of how reporting is to pay for itself continues to elude us. I guess the docs are the loss-leaders who bring in the viewers who'll also click on the inexpensive content. Feels like there must be a better way but what do I know.

why don't you show how Ukrainian soldiers have been working since 2014 to this day, how they bomb peaceful cities - Donetsk and Lugansk? Why don't you tell us how civilians and children are dying from American bombs that you are sending to Ukraine. Why are you silent about this?

woof, couldn’t disagree more with the opinion on Olivia. I feel the song sounds so extremely 2017 dated and boring, that I couldn’t even make it through the first half of the song. I feel Bea Miller is doing much more exciting things if you wanna look into a more pop/rock Indi direction.

and Creep is "The Air I Breathe" by the Hollies. Alas nothing is new, melody or chord progression. It especially hasn't been new in the last couple decades since there's really only so many chord progressions that sound good together. People need to get over it and just enjoy the music
