    I’m from the US, I think our stressful culture is the reason we have so many people with so many health and mental health issues, it’s very unhealthy and a backwards way to live. It’s really hard to escape it.

      I'm a fellow American and a nurse, and I second that sentiment. The "work hard, play hard" mentality hasn't proven successful for so many because "playing hard" often equates to consuming a lot of garbage. For others, it equates to a lot of "treating" one's self, which means overindulgence, either with food or money, both of which usually have negative outcomes. It's interesting that "treating" one's self isn't usually about a walk in the woods or relaxing with a book.
      Mostly, though, I believe our food system has destroyed Americans' health, and that's partially driven by rushing from here to there and everywhere. I agree with Lucie that kids' activities have destroyed the family dinner. We had them every night when I was growing up. In my brother's family, his kids' activities have always come first, not the family dinner and it shows in their dietary habits and health outcomes. It's not his or the kids' preference, but it is absolutely his wife's preference.

    I’m American and lived that life of business for so many years and it led to complete burnout and not one, but two nervous breakdowns. I try so hard to prioritize rest now and also to not take on too much on any given day. I gave up on keeping up with the Joneses a few years back and it has been so helpful for not only my physical health but my mental health too. I loved today’s video! I’m inspired to keep slowing down ❤️

    Could you talk about the money aspect of things? French people perspective on how they view money and how contented they feel with or without it? I think the whole problem is people not being content with "money" in the end which leads to work life imbalance, the hustle culture, and the constant need to just go go go. Would love to hear the French perspective on this topic! Thank you, great video as usual 💖

    i think this is what #antiwork on reddit is about, what Americans are asking for! However, business and money rules in the states/takes precedent over it's citizen's wellbeing and we are hardwired to think we have to grind and if we dont, we get reprimanded at work. If we don't perform to their standards, we are easily replaceable. I work in healthcare and i cant tell you how many times ive asked for a day off and being told "there are no holidays or days off in healthcare". I got into this field to help people only to be told i cant help them because they dont have insurance and have to decline the patient important services. On top of that, our wages suck..and we look towards our hobbies to make us side money. ive lived in other countries and its not so demanding..but the takeaway is that Americans are not naturally like this, we are just a product of our environment - our government just doesnt give a shit. it's just a dog eat dog world here and we're forced into this unhealthy mentality. I'm glad and support the #antiwork movement, Americans are finally being aware and wanting something more fair, like what is provided in other developed countries.

    • @01happykat
      @01happykat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      YES! I'm also in health care and my friends don't understand how I can never get a personal day off from work. The only way to do that is to call out sick, especially now that we are so short staffed. Instead, we're all working extra shifts to make up for the staffing shortage.
      I don't know much about the antiwork movement because I don't think being antiwork is the answer, but I think the answer is Americans fighting back by reducing their consumption, thus their need for more money, is more likely the answer. Now that Americans have more negotiating power, they can ask for more money or maybe more vacation time instead of more money. But the reduction in spending has to follow. Most Americans tend to spend everything on bigger homes, more expensive cars, lots of clothes, coffee shop coffee, etc. We are part of the problem, so we have to be part of the solution too. It doesn't help that our government has spent us into oblivion too. Someone's gotta pay off that $30T of debt!

    • @Edukalebylucie
      @Edukalebylucie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're totally right, no one is naturally like this, the environment plays a huuuge role

      America sounds so stressful! I've been for holidays and I don't think I could live there,! I'm British and live in a village in the North of England and our lifestyle (apart from the long lunch breaks) us pretty much the same as the French.

  • @Soph-fc9jw
    @Soph-fc9jw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    i think what plays a bi part is that the whole run country (more or less) runs that way and in america even if you tried to live like this it would be difficult as no one else around you does. eg the long lunch breaks, taking pleasure in small things

    I really enjoyed what you said about enjoying the journey. I am from the southern United States and we used to have a culture similar to what you described in France. Sadly it was ridiculed and portrayed as lazy and backwards. Now In many ways we are worse off as we have jettisoned this and are trying to catch up. I, for one, want to reclaim what was beneficial while learning from cultural error. Thank you again for all of your videos.

    I have been really enjoying your channel the last couple of days. You are creating exactly the kind of content I was looking for, particularly as it relates to food and diet. My family has fallen victim to the typical American way of eating and I’m determined to change it to improve our health and happiness. One thing I would really appreciate hearing more about is how/when the French handle things like errands and house chores. How do they manage to keep their homes clean and tidy in the midst of all of the relaxing and eating? 😊 Thanks again for creating the videos and giving such helpful insight into your culture.

    I think a lot of people would like to work less instead of more. The problem is that everything is way more expensive than ever. I would love to have more family and friends over, but everyone is very overwhelmed with their own family.

    Hi, I really loved watching your video. I'm French and I agree with you. I saw a part of me in your lifestyle description. By the way, I also know some French people who live for their job and don't know how to take time for themselves. :) Healthy, family are more important than our job. I won't sacrifice my life for this, it's just a way to live, not the essential part of it.

    I find this way of living fascinating but I also find that leisurely way of living requires constant flow of funds. I’m curious how much of monthly salary in France goes towards basic living expenses? Do they save for retirement or how do they live in the retirement? Even a simple lifestyle (no travel, eat out once a week, seldom purchasing new clothing or shoes, rare beauty treatment or hair care, etc) in the US requires a median salary.
