I like the way the rogue class is. It looks like certain rogue specializations are able to use some magic to a degree. Can finally be a magic user that's not a staff twirler & use knives, daggers, swords, and bows, perfect for my freedom fighter Shadow Dragon Rook.
I am torn between Rouge and Mage as first play. But I lean Rogue and I would go down Veil Ranger. I feel that since your basic attacks are dual wielding you then get best of both worlds. You have the constant up close dagger attacks and then pop off an arrow and then with abilities you do hard hitting ranged snipes with an arrow ability. But I would of course check which path I go down, like "burst" side and pick up passives and traits there. See the Abilities are one thing. But can't sleep on traits and passives. Because they are in effect almost all the time since they increase damage of Basic attacks and so on. I want to hit as hard as possible with my daggers/sword when doing those attacks. The mage looks really enticing too this time. Because you are no longer "Rooted" and slow as hell casting. You can jump and dodge around and fast casting projectiles. You have both weapons abilities that are full with basic attacks for a lot of variety feeling in combat with the dagger and orb or the staff. Then hopefully cool massive AOE and Single target magic abilities. You can even be spell sword and do a lot of melee with the mage abilities.
I wanna play Mage first because I thought of the character a lot but Rogue looks so fun. The duelist specialization looks coolested to me but whipping out a GAT looks fun af as well lol
Playing evoker with AOE, armor with leech, talisman for aoe damage, mask with exploding statuses. And applying statuses all over the place. Is soo fun. But also I beat dragons without using potions and kill them little too fast 😂. With mage you start weak, but go overpowered at the end. While rogue I think keeps the level difficulty whole game. I finished the game as mage, and feel tempted to play rogue and warrior. But sadly for gameplay of fights not for story. 😅Also wish they added one more skill to skill bar. To have more flexibility. And expanded the specialisations a little. But oh well. Fighting is fun in this game though. So that’s good.
Thank you so much for this video on the Rogue class. Very excited to play this game in October. Though i think i'll start with Mage class on first playthrough, then Rogue on second.
Mage evoker great choice. Harder to play at the start, but mid and end game, you Change into a beast. After lvl, 26 I think. Nothing really stood in my way anymore.
Specializations aren’t, but there was some mention that your ultimate will be flavored by your background. The example was that grey wardens will have fire added to the warrior ultimate since they use fire to fight the blight
A saboteur with their Turret, explosive trap and explosive daggers seems like a good all-round physical build that can handle any situation with a mage and warrior companion.
I will play mage first because I want to romance Lucanis and I want to be able to take him with me on missions and since he is a rogue I do not want to also be a rogue. I will likely try rogue on a second or third playthrough because it does look very fun also. The duelist looks super fun for a second play of the game.
Saboteur. I am loving the dual swords and bow play equally, so id rather not specialize in one or the other and go down the Sab path. Looking forward to getting the turrent gun and grenade launcher and checking those out.
Upsetting there's no "stealth" option for rogues this time. Was really fun going to keep going invisible in Inquisition to constantly crit with flanking damage + crit chance + crit damage. Seems they just wanted this to be a hack and slash with no flavor added
Feels kind of like Duelist fits a human, Saboteur fits a dwarf and Veil Ranger fits a dwarf. Well, the Duelist could be elf too but definitely Veil Ranger seems more elven with the Arlathan mentions.
It looks like it would take a bit of work to make it be comfy, but there are minor skills that do things like refill 2 Arrows any time you kill an enemy through any means, for example, so you could probably lean into those to sustain a more ammo-hungry playstyle.
So, if I were to play a Grey Warden rogue, I'd have no access to the Warden's fire-themed abilities? ( I believe I saw that Wardens were fire based somewhere), just with runes?
@@Dragonage2ftw right. as a warrior. That's what I'm curious about. why would I want necrotic since darkspawn are resistant to it and not fire that they're weak to? My class shouldn't matter, in my opinion, if I'm a Warden, let me access Warden perks. *bounces head on desk*
@@rickc-arelsii6276 this just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if we can eventually unlock Warden gear that helps with turning some/all of our damage into fire. We already saw a unique ring that turns all afflictions (so necrosis, shocked, bleeding, etc.) into burning.

@@zackeryh250 each specialization ultimate is sort of flavored around a faction, given that each specialization itself is based around a faction too. Regardless, a Warrior from any background can become a Champion and they'll all use the same ultimate.
I really wish there is a Lightining themed but also blade focused rogue class. I love the lighting element, but really dislike the ranged bow playstyle.

I got addicted to a machine gun Artificer Rogue that could constantly spam extremely fast recharging, high damaging, ranged powers. Don't like to hear Rogues now apparently will be the slowest class around. Even worse for archers who use range and tactical positioning as defense more than dodges and parries to keep up momentum. Rogues are thematically supposed to be the opposite of that.
None of the previous games look or play like each other, the story is the only consistently similar thing which it seems like it will continue in veilgard
Why would you go out of your way to leave a hate comment? Move on. You want to be viewed as mature? Leaving hate doesn't give the vibe that you're mature.
I will play as 'Top Scar Surgery Thomas'. Its back story is a harsh one. It was never told 'no' as a child and as a result wanted to become a gendermancer. Unfortunately it died in the character creator along with something called 'BioWare Stock'. Sometimes I just dont understand fantasy

Saboteur with the conclusive blast ultimates so I can rp being a artificer lol
The fortunes fury ultimate is giving serious eldritch cannon vibes for me

No problem 😊
Rogue duelist. I’ll be making a Drizzt Do’Urden model for my first game play
They have darker almost purple completions for qunari, maybe they would be a good fit if elves don't have that shade of skin tone

Thanks for showing this! I was dead set on rogue duellist but I’m absolutely terrible at blocking and parrying in games so probably going mage now.
Veil Ranger Veil Jumper with Davrin and Emmrich! I love the bow/ranged abilities!
A saboteur with their Turret, explosive trap and explosive daggers seems like a good all-round physical build that can handle any situation with a mage and warrior companion.
My thoughts exactly.
I'm kinda wondering if I can make something close to a Captain America build with a warrior. If you can then mage may not be my first playthrough.

I always play rogue (and they're looking really cool in DAV), but also for the first time the warrior seems alot of fun! So I'm torn.

Can I play 100% Ranged?
Or would I run out of resource from not parrying/dodging?

I love the bow, but this garbage where you can’t swap to it and it’s more of a secondary really sucks. I want to main and archer.
Human Antivan Crow rogue duelist
I'm so stoked!!! This will keep me going til monster hunter hits in February
why does the rogue have cooler looking spells than the mage

Is it hard to aim with the bow using controller?

Shadow Dragons Duelist. But im gonna use flask of lightning and pilfer
One thing you didn't mention is how forgiving the dodge/parry mechanic is, how hard is it to dodge or parry compared to souls games for example?
I’m guessing that being a primarily ranged rogue isn’t a viable option?
It looks like it would take a bit of work to make it be comfy, but there are minor skills that do things like refill 2 Arrows any time you kill an enemy through any means, for example, so you could probably lean into those to sustain a more ammo-hungry playstyle.

Duellist, for sure!
Rougue Crow Duelist on the first playthrough, Mage Shadow Dragon Spellblade on the second.
May I ask, Bow is locked target or manual aim?
Manual aim, unless they have a lock on
It's both from the gameplay I've seen. It seems like you can charge the bow shot while aiming, and then quick shot with the lock on.

Only dual swords and the bow.
