Few things I wished Sony did differently with the X95L:
1) It being their flagship Mini-LED TV, they should have used the Pentonic 1000 chipset.
2) HDR10+ support. It's opensource and no licensing fee involved ffs.
3) They shouldn't have hardwired the powercord, should have been a detachable Fig-8 C7 plug where users have the option to use their own cord.
It basically should have all the features the A95L has minus the ones that are OLED specific. The choice between the two TV should basically come down to OLED vs Mini-LED preference, then the A80L & X93L/X90L should be cheaper second tier OLED and FALD options.
Very few content on HDR10+
How much content is produced with HDR10+ versus Dolby vision & HDR10? Could the lower adoption rate be the reason? I'm also guessing that there might be other algorithmic and programing cost besides the free licensing as for why Sony and others don't have HDR10+. Samsung with the lack of Dolby vision however...
I bought the 65 inches X90L and it has a detachable power cord. Curious that the X95L doesn't!
@@Krynale I would rather they drop the netflix calibrated mode which requires users to use native Netflix app on the Bravia TV & use the algorithm resources instead for HDR10+.
Yeah the power cord is a weird one, apparently not all region has attached cord either and not all sizes too. Which is why it's confusing.
@@amitavraja3385 guess what, Panasonic and Philips support both HDR format. Sony lazy and expensive
Shane Lee, thank you so much for this video! Thanks for the video with X95K and X95L in 85 inches! Many have been waiting for this comparison!
I'm is asia and I love my 75v X95L which I have been using now for a week! Best TV I ever owned!
From witch tv do you come ? Have the Sony 65X9505H from 2020 and ordered the 75X95L and hope and believe this is better in picture quality
@@patrickmika6493 I'm coming from a 2019 Panasonic 65 inch. I still believe that this is the best tv I ever owned, and so happy to have spent 4400 USD for the 75 inch model. No buyer regrets at all.
Giod day. Do you have click sound, when you switch on and off your tv? I have it, but before was not like this on other my sony tv.
@@8uoo5 Yes, mine clicks as well. Our Sony OLED also does this so I consider it normal.
@@craiglyons2314 thank you 😊
Love my 85X95K
All TVs are just getting better and better year over year. Can never go wrong with Sony, great review!
Saw the X95L in person recently and it's "significantly better" than last year's excellent X95K...More contrast but the most noticeable difference to me was the blacks were nearly oled black with practically zero blooming...Current pricing is at $4,799 ...
Thats not true. The X95K have better motion handling also my X950H have better motion specially when you watch Sport or play games. The movement is more blurry and choppy. I have the 75X95L since 4 weeks. Also the Porcessor is now 3 years old. Bad brands like Phillips use the Pentonic 1000 processor in their midrange Models. Sony knows that they have the best upscaling and good accutacy Picture but it's so expensive for the Hardware they use
Now for all manufactures.. Samsung LCD and QD-OLED really did not improve at all over last years models
Enjoy your new tv Shane
I hope this becomes the Z9M Master Series in 2024 with further improvements of course. And I need it to be in 75". 85" is too big.
I purchased the 75X95K last month on a closeout sale for $1500 and love it. I was relieved to hear that this years model is only a slight improvement, so for $1500, it looks like I got a supper buy for this in a brand new unopend box.
Hi shane great video, could you please touch on color and clarity differences between the two 85s? And how much difference does the xr clear make in Your experience? Is it as game changer as some reviewers make it out? Or slight upgrade. thanks
Thanks Mr Shane! I Learnt Heaps💡🧠! Cheers From New Zealand 🇳🇿
🍻
After watching this, I dont think if you already own a 95k you should upgrade.. Yes, the 95l handles blooming better, but its still not an OLED and the average person doesnt sit there and freeze the most intense content to see a difference. With normal watching, they probably wouldnt even notice the difference. Youll get a great TV either way.
Average person doesn't buy a mini led either IMO and pick the biggest size they want that is cheapest or good enough
Beautiful tv.
It'll be a steal when the price drops! I wait for this TV since last year and I'm glad I did but not paying that high price until it becomes affordable in the future maybe at black Friday, or closer to Christmas or even a little beyond that like super bowl. I waited this long I could wait a little longer and really save some coin and not in a hurry to buy.
hey, would you recommend this x95l 85“ or lg g2 83“?
can get both at roughly same price. thanks
I’m definitely digging the tv for sure but there are a few things I wish Sony would do differently. First I wish they would release a 98” version of this tv instead they go with the mid range X90L for 98” while Samsung goes for the equivalent of the QN90 series in their 98” QN100B mini LED and LG has their 97” G2 carried over which is also a flagship tv, even TCL has their 98” QM8 due out shortly. Second I see Sony is still screwing over gamers by making them having to go into the menu each and every time and switch between Dolby Vision & VRR I believe they are the only manufacturer to do this although I hear the A95L actually rectifies this but we will see. All in all it is still a stellar tv and I look forward to seeing it perform.
Can the “going into menu every time to switch between DV & VRR” be fixed via firmware / software update?
@@aiyaaabatt I don’t think so but not sure. I believe it has something to do with the chipset Sony uses but I could be wrong. The upcoming A95L is the only Sony tv so far that won’t have this issue.
Wish there are smaller sizes too
98 over 85 would be like 3.5 to 4 times the price. It's cool to want it, but justifying the price unless you are set for like money wise is another matter
Great Video,, compare more TVs please, X90L X93L etc maybe U8K, QM8. QN90C etc
Yess. Would love to see x90l compares to x95k/x93l or even x95l
Thank you so much for doing this comparison, especially the bloom.....it just sucks that they only have a 85" model.....my budget is $3,000 for the tv. I'd get the x95L for longevity but with the LG G3 offering a warranty for burn in...... I don't think I can justify $5,300
Here in germany the 85X95L costs for 2 days 2999 EUR with Tax
@@patrickmika6493 what the heck?!? Why is there a 65" and 75" version in germany but not the US?
@@Ben-fq1lj Here we have on the Opposite the X93L not on the market
@@patrickmika6493 are you sure about this, in NL it cost about 5500 Euro. If thats really the case i am driving to Germany :)
@@qbtran77 Yes iam sure. That Was bestprice. Now it cost more. For example, here on Mediamarkt, Amazon, Euronics also at local cost the 85 inch X95L today and the last week 4200 EUR. You become also Sony Cashback, for this TV 500 EUR also when you live in Netherland. The Shop must be in Germany for the TV your IBAN can be for example in Netherland. I know the Conditions good for the Cashback. So it Costs 4200 - 500 EUR Sony Cashback 3700 EUR
How do you get rid of your existing 85 inch???
Hi, do you connect 4k blue ray player on hdmi3 arc for dolby vision mode or will hdmi 1-2 enhanced mode do? dolby vision can be enable on those ports but are there any difference using dolby vision mode vs just enhanced mode when watching dolby vision content? Thanks
You can hook it up to any input.
Is the X95L worth the price over the 85” X95K since it’s on clearance? The X95K is $2500 right now.
Also, I have a 75” Z9F that it would replace. The clarity of the Z9F is outstanding. I’m not sure if you have seen the Z9F, but if so, do you think the x95L and K have the same clarity or better?
Very good comparisons. Please show it against Samsung QN95C, it’s main Mini-LCD rival, though the Sony is cheaper.
It’s ok. Vincent the legend has the video out, which I was looking for.
Can someone measure vertical positioning of wall mounting holes in millimeters? I'm waiting for the TV and want to place mounting bracket already because it requires some tinkering to pass wires through it.
Hope you did more comparison with the x95k😅 wich was the brighter tv to you? It looks that the x95l drops signicant highlights luminance to get rid off blooming
It has more dimming zones which I think that might be the answer.
How does the x95k do at upscaling compared to the x95l? Thanks
What do you think of the 85X90CL vs the 85X95K? The current 85X95L price is 2X the other two.
I currently have the 85X90CL and stream 99.99%, but I'm considering buying a PS5 for Black Friday. I like the X90CL because of its clarity and colors, but I wouldn't mind if it was brighter, deeper blacks and less blooming😁.
Is the 85X95K for $2,600 + mini-led+ more dimming zones worth considering over the 85X90CL for $2,000+ 5 year free warranty + XR Clear? Taking into account that Sony has upgraded its algorithm.
I have x95k 65 inn how about pixel density in 85 can you see the pixel or we need 8k for that size ? ..I prefer mini led than oled because the bright is so good 😊 and no burning🔥
Hi Shane, is the 75 inch and 85 inch the same spec?
Since ive been following u for years im curious what's your favorite tv setting movie, custom etc.??
I usually have it calibrated. It'd be a bad look if I was reviewing movies on a display I just eye balled. Or had on vivid.
@@therealshanelee is it expensive i thought about it a few times
I'll wait for micro led.
I am having deja vu😂😅
Too much 🍻 I think.
@@therealshanelee 🤣😅
A95L please!
just bought a 75X95K and couldn't be happier, (run out stock AUD$3k w/ 5yr warranty) couldn't see the difference between the two in the store & X95L retails for $5k, def not worth the extra $2k premium
But for that performance you pay 500-800 more🤔
I paid 2150 for a calibrated 75inch x95k with 5 year warranty.
The x95L would cost 2900 with that extras.
Is it really worth it
Must have missed it, what happened to Value Electronics?
Shane, Im curious.
Why are you going with an LCD and not an OLED?
It looks less artificial and more cinematic.
@therealshanelee Many TH-cam reviewers seem to hail OLED as supreme, but they ignore that LCD has better aspects.
I previoisly had a Sony 9300E LCD and this is what frustrates me about my Sony A90J OLED:
- Less overall detail.
- Less shadow detail.
- Off axis pink tint.
- Near black banding.
If you could elaborate in a video on this topic, it would be appreciated.
Shane has a monster Sony projector (or maybe JVC) in this main space.
We all know that a NYU Tishc film 🎥 school kids are buying the 65" 95L or K to watch their dailes.
OLED elden ring people please go away. Not trying to be rude. But look at that picture with film material. No one else can offer this with the naturalistic colors and the in-line HDR pop and bloom control like a Sony.
Also if you have a lot of natural light such as in a living room, the anti-glare coating on Sony's Mini-LEDs are SOOO much better than anything on an OLED. Take a run to your local big box store and you'll see the difference in that department is night and day.
@chrislukowski1825 It's very difficult to judge in a store because there's so much ambient light. OLEDs come off very well and LCDs look washed out because they're not optimally positioned.
My X90J still rock's ✌🏻
I’m curious about how much heat the screen puts off after being one for a few hours. As much as I want to get a 85” tv I also don’t want to turn a wall into a massive heater. I have a q80 as a security monitor that’s on about 16 hours every day and it puts off some serious heat
I've had this TV for over a week, and it does not put off much heat. I can put my hand approximately an inch away and not feel any heat. Also, I have it mounted to the wall. For me, this is an awesome TV.
Shane, how are you finding the X95L after a couple of months use? Thanks.
Still excellent
@@therealshanelee Good to hear thanks.
@@therealshaneleehow about screenuniformity and DSE?
I see they dropped the bravia core to 5 free movies...I have last years model & got 10 free movie tickets
Well if you just have to get rid of your ols one from last year. Send it my way
Have you seen the QN95C?
Shane used to say the A9G was the best so these beat that tv?
That tv is a few years old now. Things get better with time.
This is my favorite channel. Shane is going against all the talking heads who told us don't upgrade your 2022 95K 85" to a late summer 2023 95L 85".
This Sony TV starting with last years Mini LED has a fan base following unrivaled in the industry. OLED fans go away. The brightest, most film school looking Mini LED in the world (with Dolby Vision).
Can we all agree Netflix calibrated mode stinks?
Video starts @ 10:03. You're welcome
Not sure if the differences justify the difference in price
Good review, but I think buying a new set every year is pointless, not to mention expensive.
Considering most people can't tell the difference between 2k and 4k. blue ray, they won't see these suttle differences.
I would only upgrade every 5 years, improvements then should be noticable, or at least I hope they would.
What about brightness compare to the x95k? And how is the nativblacklevel without local dimming compare to the x95k?😅
Is Best Buy going to finally get the X95L?
I'm sure at some point. It's $4800 at audio advice right now.
Would you get the 85” X95L or the 83” A80L for a basement without much ambient light at all? I want the A95L but my sitting distance will be between 11-12 feet and I feel the 77” will not be enough. Thanks!
I would go for 83 or 85. For more than 10 feet is 77 to small for my opinion, its ok. I used a 65 inch Sony but at 6,5 to 7 feet and that the most of the time for Broadcast TV 1080i.
Thank you for that genuine review man. You saved my money on X95L. For a dark room i should go with the OLED
One single Question : Should i pick 83 inch A80L or 83 inch LG C3 ( because G3 83 inches lack MLA )
I did consider 97 inch G2 but the price is for the fools. I can buy 3 units of 83 inches for the price of 97 inches
A80l 83“. It got a heatsink it’s confirmed by a Sony support worker.
Your missing the point of mini led it puts highlights in shadow details that OLEDs do not so it’s not about overall tv brightness when it comes to nits it’s about light control with the tv processor as well for a great image I want Sony mini led now and I love LG oleds more natural looking picture for movies and I want a decent 85 inch that doesn’t cost 5700 like the G3 without MLA
@@yearlytwomonthly6113 buy Sony a80l 83“
@@yearlytwomonthly6113 yes but after you see the mini led in a dark roon you will say yes to Oled and no to mini led. I always watch movies in a dark room
why not get both? one for a bright room and one for a dark??@@joshuvaantonio
Do you think it’s worth the upgrade? I have the 85X 95K
That's what the video is about.
How much better 10% 50%? Would I even notice it? Great video.!
if u really are a cinephile u should buy an oled mini led sux
If YOU really are a cinephile you’d know the strengths and weaknesses of both tech and realize that OLED isn’t the end all be all. Most OLEDs perform like trash. I’ve owned them all.
dont ever use that eff’d up wobble music for filler time ever again .. 🤪😵💫
i have horrible experience with android! which they are using, i mean really horrible. whats you opinion?????
Who really uses the built in smart features? Get an apple tv and be done with it.
@@therealshaneleeYeah that is the best way even if you want android, buy nvidia shield or other streamer. Less ads compared to cluttered smart tv interface
X95L the rewrapped X95K
Tune down gamma on 85x95k to -2 or even minimum, you will get the 85x95l lolz.

@@annenominous7220 have you tried it on both tv sets?

you need to get the LG OLED
why?
A90j sony 83 is still king rest bin
If you like a TV that is dark with no punchy colors or HDR. Sold my 83" A90J for a mini LED and realizing how much I've been missing out on in terms of brightness!
If you're prone to blooming you should have gone with Samsung in the first place. No TV is perfect though
The Samsungs motion processing and upscaling isn't as good.
@@Belgarath777 Depends on content and if you rely on motion interpolation or not. Samsung Qleds have better motion interpolation and local dimming imo. At least this was true in 2021. Upscaling is also decent at least. I am sitting close to my 85 inch Q95T and mostly can't complain watching SD stuff. I doubt Sony is miles ahead in this regard. I love how clean and uniform Sony TVs are though and I strongly consider Sony for my next purchase
This time sony has the bettet blooming control even better than the qn95c as wisperstatus said
Why do you waste time showing the unboxing of the TV. No one cares about that stuff. I just want to know about how the TV performance.
