What I love about this is there's NO rain or storm. Everyone always goes for the "dark and stormy night" approach. Not only is this more eerie, but you can easily play storm ambience along with this if you really want to.
Halloween is coming so I'm releasing a few creepy ambiences, you might need them ;)
Gonna use this to send my players through an emotionally harrowing masterpiece of a session. Little tiefling looking for her lost cat turns into a tragedy the players get to finish. The story is, there’s this tiefling girl named Ruthie, who grew up with her tiefling bard mother and human wizard father in a large mansion. Unfortunately, the father dipped into necromancy, which he was not prepared for. Rising a beholder he couldn’t control resulted in the massacre of every person in the house. His wife was away and returned a week later to find her life gone and her child’s ghost haunting the town she died in. The party encounters Ruthie the ghost, who asks them to help her find her cat in the old haunted mansion. Hints will be dropped, similar to Sixth Sense, that this charming child isn’t quite *alive.* The cat will be waiting in the basement, which the party will reach after many puzzles and spooky incidents. The beholder zombie will be lurking in the putrid depths. Once it is slain, Ruthie will finally be free. Her gold locket, shaped like a cat, will drop to the ground as she dissipates. This will be one of the players’ rewards; it summons the cat when its name is whispered twice.

@@explodingtomahawks7589 Gosh, I can't believe it's been three years already - it was a session I'll always remember, to be sure. Everything went about exactly as I described it, and the fight against the beholder zombie was absolutely epic. My players got creative with the terrain and magic items I'd given them before, and I was so proud of them! The party ended up later seeking out and finding Ruthie's mom, and there was a whole story arc that arose from that; I made up on the spot that Ruthie's father was connected with the BBEG, and when the party eventually fought and killed him, it was an extra satisfying ending. The group I ran this with is still going strong, and we're now on our third campaign together!

Why is it always a haunted castle? "Oh mighty traveler, please free this castle from its curse." And everytime it's the same thing, "thank you valiant heroes, you've saved my home." And we never get paid for it. This is the fifteenth haunted castle. If we don't get paid, and get another request to do clear another haunted castle sometime in the future I'm shanking the man that offers it. Also these damn ghosts are so annoying. Lina! Find the center already, we've already been buzzed a half dozen times and I want to get this done fast.
Whenever there is a whisper in it I hear, "I am a cow," XD

I’m listening to this as I’m writing a fictional novel titled “The American Castle” which is not the actual name, it’s real name is called Barghest Castle. The only reason I call it the American Castle is because it’s a medieval castle in North America.
