Thanks for all the videos. Very informative. What I am missing is advantage/value of creating such a complex under coat/zenithal to then essentially cover it up with opaque paint.
I'm blown away by your range. Just comparing this week's video to last week, they are such different approaches executed very intentionally. I feel like I just start to figure out one thing, and you have introduced five or six more things to try.
You're great man! You've actually made me want to paint again. The theoretical aproach you teach has taken a lot of the mysticism out of painting for me, and a lot of the dread. TY!
Yet again a brilliant video! Even if I take 1 thing from each video my painting is getting better! Hopefully see you for a masterclass once we can travel!
Bravo! I love the way you approach painting - I find it really helpful to think about some of the points you talk about (even if I'm painting something really quite different at the time).
😁😍😁 Thanks a million man!!! I love Mignola's ability to synthesise reality in such simple shapes but full of drama and pathos! You should check also Head Lopper by Andrew MacLean, another great source of Mignolaesque vibes 😊
Ha! Thanks for the reply! And thanks for the recomendation, I´ll definitely check it out. Yeah, although I´m a much bigger fan of his earlier style, Mignola has been a master of chiaroscuro and simplification throught his career. Every frame is a masterclass of composition, both in notan and in color! And to return the favour, I´d recomend you checking out Josan Gonzales. He was greatly influenced by Mignola and Stewart, but took their lessons and cranked them up to eleven. A great resource for analyizing color composition.
Amazing as usual ! Love your unique approach to making different tones and mixing so many painting techniques. You're an endless source of artistic inspiration and a great teacher ! Thanks for continuing this series and i hope to see your take on Grey Knights one day (i know i said that before :D ).
Great video as usual, and I learned something new as usual. I was wondering : Will you make a video about miniature photography ? I found some videos on YT but I still struggle getting good pictures with my phone.
Thanks a million! I'm not really great with photos 😅 most of the pictures you see are taken by my wife, the real photography enthusiast! I guess she can make a video lessons... 😁 This is an idea to explore!
Great video Marco, I don't suppose you remember the tonal progression you used to create blue shadows on the white armour? Thank you very much for your time. Looks fantastic!
Nice! White scars are on my list of tutorials to make for my channel, I'm going to try and incorporate some of your tricks along with some of my own. :) Hope you dont mind. ;)
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Sweet thanks! Oh hey I have a trick I've never seen any one use and I was wondering if you've ever seen or tried it. It's using makeup sponges to apply smooth coats of paint, I use it all the time. I'm planing on using it to do the base coat of white by hand on my white scars. Here is time stamp of me using it on my last tutorial as an example. th-cam.com/video/whpzpqBk1Xc/w-d-xo.html
Hey Marco, love your videos - energy and great techniques! I'm starting a goblin army at the moment, trying to use only Kimera Kolors. Any chance of you doing greenskin flesh of some kind any time soon...?
Thanks a million! I'm just waiting for the new Underworld warband to come out 😁 In the meantime scroll down in the video list to my second video; the filming is dated but the technique is still good 😉
Really appreciate this as I am currently working on a Scars army. Also, not many people do tutorials on them and on white armor in general. One question tho, how did you do the blue tint on the white armor? Glazing?
Hello Marco! Thanks to you I've also got a large part of the Molotow range. Which colours benefit from the "Thinner and Glaze" combo the most? I've never found the darker colours coming out grainy but I find it often with white and cream are grainy. Keep up the great work! Will there be any more colour theory vids coming this year.
No, I usually don't use varnish before oils. A coat of varnish erases the natural finish of paint (like the natural shine of metals and inks for example) and white spirit and oils don't interact chemically with the water based acrylics underneath! Also in this approach I want the different paints to merge a bit together so I don't want to put something in between the two losing depth and visual interest. Acrylics fear the physical stress of the cleaning phase and the excess of moisture so you need to be very very very gentle in that step; you can give a coat of varnish if you fear to be too aggressive during your first experiments but when the hands understand what and how to do you don't need any extra protection 😉
Feel like I need to head over to Blick and grab some molotow to try. Never thought to use those via airbrush. Do you think they work well enough as a primer for gaming minis?
Im a simple man - I hear Marco say "Hello Guys!" and I hit thumbs up
I could watch a new video of you each day and never get tired of it. The very best on youtube!
I just want to say that I'm ALWAYS in the mood for a "Hello guys!!" from Marco. Just joined the Patreon community! Thanks for all your great content.
😍😁😍 Thank you!!! And thanks a million for your support 😍
1:06 love these teaching bits!
Thanks for all the videos. Very informative. What I am missing is advantage/value of creating such a complex under coat/zenithal to then essentially cover it up with opaque paint.
5:34 On my own I came to the conclusion that the glossier the paint, the better it airbrushes. Meanwhile the info was here all along... 😊
Absolutely love this

Wow 😮 I always learn a tone of stuff from you Marco ... thanx
Absolutely stunning
Now I need another White scars captain and I already got more captains than actual troops... Great paintjob :O
That Hellboy!!!
😊😊😊😘
You are such an inspiration! Thanks again for a great video!
Wow the effect of the gold and terqousie to make an old bronze!
Great idea including the verdigris in the base coat.
Lol... you get to a point where I would be proud to set the model on a table. Then you go from the basic sketch to amazing...
All hail the king!
😂😂😂
Why is it that after every new video you put out ,I want to throw my paint away? Truly a beautiful miniature Marco!!
😂😂😂 I hoped for the opposite effect 😊!
You're great man! You've actually made me want to paint again. The theoretical aproach you teach has taken a lot of the mysticism out of painting for me, and a lot of the dread. TY!
😍 glad to have you back in the hobby!!!
MAN!!! that thing looks incredible.
I am so adding a white element to my green AdMech army now. I love the bronze colour!
best miniature-painter! I want to be a Padawan of your Knowledge !!!
😁😍😁 Thanks a million man!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the thumbnails? That White Scar Marco is a thing of beauty! 😁
God I love listening to your teaching. Amazing colour and application knowledge 🙏
😊😁😊
very smart choice of colors ! the best white scars i've ever seen !
Marco! Beautiful.
I would love to see your style on a Salamander.
Idea for future videos: special effects - rust, soot and etc. Very interesting how u will paint
Superb tutorial - thank you.
Thanks to you man 😊!
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Just what I needed after studying all day for my upcoming exams ... thank you, Marco! ;)
Hellllloooooo guuyyssss gives me such comfort. I run to the other room, add paints to my cart and tell my partner I got them in a sale.
😂😂😂 L O L 😂😂😂
Fantastic Job as always!
I
Love how much color you included in the white. I did the same with mine bringing in reflections from the environment. Makes the white more alive 👌🏼
Super nice work!

Everybody talking about dat white, while I´m here just appreciating the Hellboy drawing :D. My favourite comic book and one of my favourite artists!

Another other-worldly rendering!!
What a great and informative video Marco, thanks!
UUMM - Marco Mignola???? I loved that little shot of you sketching Hellboy :) Great content as always. Hope all is well!
😁😁😁
Nice Moustache.
Happy early Lunar New Year btw.
😁 Happy new year!!!
I lived in China for a while and I love to celebrate the Lunar New Year 😁!!!
Would love to see a vid on lighting; under what lights should you paint? Yellower? Bluer? Halogen? LCD?
Scroll down in my videos 😉 I made it already!

Hello Marco! Here for my weekly dose of awesome painting inspiration. Where did the sculpt come from?
I learn so much from your videos! They help me push myself into new techniques 👌🏻
Just in time for my to paint 100+ white Stormcasts! You're a psychic and a lifesaver 😍😁😁

To sum this video up, "The key to painting white? Dont't!!! its about the white that isn't there ;)"
White doesn't exist! 😁
Fantastic work mate, i'd love to see you do Death wing knights with Inks.
I’d love to see more content on painting large scale models. Let’s see you take on a knight!
Hey Marco, great video once again, have you any plans for videos showing insights into your YT production/workflows?
Fantastic. Hi from Ukraine

@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Sweet let me know how it turns out, I'm still refining the technique and your feedback would be really cool!
I hope that one day I can see the video of the dark angel death wings of Forge World, please~~~
Where can I buy that mini?!? The model looks fantastic
It's 3D printed! Genghis Khan by Txarli Factory 😉

Really appreciate this as I am currently working on a Scars army.
Also, not many people do tutorials on them and on white armor in general.
One question tho, how did you do the blue tint on the white armor? Glazing?
Thanks a million! Yes, I used few heavy glazes; glazing on white you get a strong tint almost immediately
I love you.

Che figata! Ma il modello della miniatura? Dove lo si trova?
Grazie!!! Il modello é Genghis Khan della Txarli Factory 😊
Marco, did you varnish the miniature prior to adding the oil paints?
No, I usually don't use varnish before oils. A coat of varnish erases the natural finish of paint (like the natural shine of metals and inks for example) and white spirit and oils don't interact chemically with the water based acrylics underneath!

Amazing job Marco! Have you used only water to thin the scale color artist colours or smth else? Thanks in advance!
Thanks! Yeah 99% of the time I use simple water; I add some medium only when I need the extra transparency for glazes, washes and filters
A long take the black oil lining to dry?
Great work. When you spray close to the models what psi do you have it set at?
Same as always, around 2.5/2.7 Bar! Check my airbrushing playlist for more details 😉
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Will do cheers.
Hey Marco, I'd like to know what airbrush do you use? I think it looks like Iwata, but which model is this? Thx!
Hi! It's an Iwata HP-BH; check my airbrushing playlist for all the details!
Feel like I need to head over to Blick and grab some molotow to try. Never thought to use those via airbrush. Do you think they work well enough as a primer for gaming minis?
Oh yeah, most of the time I use them precisely as primer/first layer. I use Molotow black for priming in every single video 😉
Does Molotow not make acrylic paints anymore? All I am able to find is the spray cans and the acrylic markers.
The 20ml tubes are marker's refills 😉
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM That makes sense as I wasn't even looking at that. Thank you!
Also where do I need to go if I want to ask for a commission?
Hey Marco, how do I get your affiliate discount on Element Games? Awesome content as always btw!
How long did it take to finish this project, Marco?
It took me about four hours!
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Crystal brush level paint job in 4 hours. Okay then. I have a long way to go...

Realy good, do you only paint game's workshop ? maybe could you check raging heroes fig .... i'm sure you will find happiness :)
This model is 3D printed! And last week I painted Malifaux models 😁
Marco everyday you make me want to pack up my ork army, post it to you, and pay you to paint them because your skill at painting is ridiculous.

As usually great job!
Still waiting for the grim dark Dark Angel.. at this point I am starting to be abusive :D
