  • Please don't actually burn your manual, there is a lot of important information and specifications in there! I created this series because I couldn't find any videos specifically on machine components and maintenance. I want to make this as easy as possible for you so you know what type of oil, grease, lube to get and which components should be maintained so your machines will outlive you and never let you down!

    Hi - do you plan on making any more of these? Like yourself, I bought a whole shop's worth of used, Powermatic tools!
    The bandsaw and Planer content you shared was spot on!!!!
    I also have their Jointer, Lathe, Drumsander, and Mortiser; all of which looked like (in the background of your video) you had the exact same ones.
    Thanks for reading!!!!!

    Thank You for simplifying this intimidating project. The only thing makes me uneasy is your hood's drawstrings.
    So many people think they need a high-end Baleigh or Laguna 18" when about all they will Ever need is a nice 12" that doesn't need 220. You could be creating instead of saving up for your "someday" machine. BTW Those brands are great in the smaller sizes, but a production machine is made to run 24-7 not 2-3 hours a week, which is closer to reality for many of us. The best kept secret in woodworking machines is Dayton, which is often a Palmgren re-labeled. WAY better than anything in any hardware store and imho a step above G*****y. In the last 40 years I have never regretted buying anything Dayton. They're a sensible balance between price and quality. BTW my own is a Wilton, which has a slower FPM bc it's intended for metal (which will never be cut with my saw), but it really is not something you would actually notice bc it cuts like there's no tomorrow.

      @@WilliamDouglasCo The only experience I have with Powermatic is a 20"(I think) metal cutter and an older 12", but your saw has a much improved upper guide and trunions which were the only things about the 12" that I didn't care for. The 20" was a monster, cut plate like butter.

    Dang it, you just had to throw down, dintcha?
    So now my very used Ridgid is disassembled and waiting for lower wheel bearings.
    It might be a good time to spin up an episode of buy once cry once?
    I did OK with TableSaur(tm), an early 1997 Grizzly cabinet saw, 5hp version. It only needed a good cleaning, some small missing parts, and tuning.
    But I've gotten in too deep with the bandsaw.
    Motor upgrade - doubled hp
    Kreg rip fence
    Riser block
    Link belt
    Home built mobile base
    1-1/2 inch thick plywood baseboard
    Carter tensioner lever and cobra spring
    Highland tool works tensioner handwheel
    Bearing guide kit that only fit the upper end
    New bottom wheel bearings, Japanese
    I think I ran out of stubborn and stoopit today, lol.

    I'm curious why you use sae30 and not a dry lubricant?

  • @mattelias721
    @mattelias721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is a great 'quick and dirty' tutorial - it hits all the important areas. I'm going to assume you did the same routine with the guide bearings on the bottom set as well. You might have said so, and if you did my microspan of attention capacity missed it. Question: if a riser block is added, does that compromise the the rigidity of the whole saw? Another question: if you have a riser of say, "N" inches, do you then buy a blade of 2N+Original Length? (Sorry for the math)

    • @WilliamDouglasCo
      @WilliamDouglasCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for dropping a comment 😃
      The riser block is sold by powermatic so it has been made perfectly to raise the saw without compromising anything. They also specify the new blade size so I haven’t even thought about the math. Hope this helps!
