I actually liked the VA monitor much more overall. Much better black levels which is key for image quality in games and especially movies. As for colors, the IPS just looked like it had a "cool" tint while the VA was more on the "warm" side which I personally prefer as it's less straining on the eyes.
One thing I absolutely hate about those comparisons is when they don't calibrate color hue before the test, resulting into "inferior panel (IPS)" giving off inaccurate color palette. Or when filming from angle, resulting into "inferior panel (VA)" giving off blooming effect. VA is better WHEN HARDWARE IS RIGHT. But I'd still choose good ips screen over faulty qled va screen that's full of jadder when it comes to motion.
I was torn for days now between more expensive IPS and less expensive MVA monitor. From what I've learned from your video, I'd love to have VA more than IPS. These colors might not be as natural as they are in real life but they are much nicer than those on IPS.
VA looks way better. Better contrast leads to better detail and better colors in the end. If you want the vibrancy of IPS just play with the saturation settings on your VA panel. HDR essentially maximizes contract, on a VA you're getting that sort of effect and detail (not getting HDR but getting the premise of it leading to a better image than IPS).
Better colors? Are you colorblind bro? Look again. The VA monitor has a very obvious green tint. The fucking sky is green lol. As well as Drakes shirt.
@@s_for_short2400 Are we going to do anything about grey black on IPS? 1000:1 contrast ratio is incredibly low even on high end IPS Monitor. We used to have a monitor that have 10000:1 it’s called CRT monitor and Sony Trinitron. CRT was a perfect display technology. High contrast yet super natural colour and 0ms response time.
its all about those blacks man I agree.. esp. for darker games or scenarios.. it just looks better, better atmosphere, better than noticing the god damn backlight glow/bleed w/e
For the most part, contrast looks identical in the gameplay footage due to the auto exposure of the camera and having them side-by-side, the camera is basically looking for a middle ground between both monitors. But that shot @1:34 gets the chef's kiss! I haven't seen as good a comparison of VA and IPS yet on TH-cam, so thank you! Edit: It's not a critique on your method, since I can't think of a better way to easily shoot this than with auto exposure unless you shoot in log gamma and color correct later, which could be quite time-consuming. But that would be an interesting exercise. Another way would be to shoot them separately so the auto exposure would adapt to the screens independently, but then gameplay can't really be synced. It would have to be an in-game cinematic or something you can easily sync later.
Out of the box, that BenQ's colors look more correct to me. Maybe the LG needed better calibration. Oh wait, we all view this with different monitors, so others may be seeing the LG to have better color. For sure, the VA wins on blacks.
The VA has way more detail and depth because of the higher contrast ratio I think .. I got a 3D effect with the VA panel. I think watching movies on the VA panel would be awesome too. Great video!
Well VA has better blacks, but IPS usually has better overall colors. In dark movies VA is better for sure, but in any brighter movies, IPS may be better.
IPS is far better in color accuracy than VA display, "aslo samsung it sells the big lie fake blacks in qled" the VA display it has the very same problem of IPS in dark scene, look at this clouding and light leak of qled high end of samsung th-cam.com/video/UaIwB6tkFE0/w-d-xo.html only oled it has real blacks
The main thing I notice is the colours. The right one has a much stronger yellow, greys are yellowish (not good) but greens are more vivid. I like that the left one has stronger reds, greys look much better but greens look washed out. I doubt this is down to the panel technology?
No, this is down to comparison not setting similar color presets for side-by-side comparison. With similar color preset they are going to look much closer to each other.
People don't seem to realize that you can change color temperature. Of course they will still look different but you can make ips warmer and va cooler. I assume that this was with factory settings which are usually inaccurate.
that contrast is so much more superior imo.. nothing ruins my experience more as playing dark games seeing the fckin glow ruining my dark atmosphere.. screw that
@@NotEvenDeathCanSaveU That's so freaking bad for your eyes mate. Never watch tv or play games in the dark. IDC about the monitor. But any ophthalmologist would warn you. Because it srsly fucks up your eyesight. You won't go blind. Also it's not as bad as reading in the dark. But it's still extremely bad. You can't believe the number of teenagers who visits the clinic I used to work at who's developed Hyperopia within just months of gaming in the dark. It has become a modern day crisis.
I've never owned a monitor before, it's a great video an the IPS vs VA screen should be showed everywhere to give an idea of the differences, but it's still seem like something you need to experiment yourself to see the differences irl. I think I will go for VA in the first time, it doesn't seem that bad as some people say.
VA for me cuz of the blacks. Also I'm not playing fps, I use brightness below 50, and flux with color to 5000k even lower to lessen strain on the eyes.
As designer and Architect. I prefer choose IPS. Bcs the way yellowish in VA is too much, and based from my experience, it'll ruined decision making while I want to setting the colour temperature by default.
Thanks for this, I know now I'm getting VA. It just looks so much better to my eyes. I don't really care about response time that much, I'm not a pro gamer. Contrast > colour coverage imo.
I had two VA panels for around 1k and when I purchased LG IPS I was blowned away. IPS is the deal. VA looks bad from angles. New LG IPS are much better now a lot. About colours u can increase Digital Vibrance in Nvidia panel
I would suggest color matching the displays before comparing if you can :) People point out the limits of contrast compared to VA when displaying a black screen, however, from personal experience, this difference in contrast is very well masked once content is being displayed. It's due to a display's ability to map luminosity well into a set (1000:1) ratio as opposed to a variable ratio (especially when using crappy dimming zoning). I prefer the stability of an IPS in general, but with warmer color tones. I'd still choose the display that can give me the best color - or control over color.
Best comment here, blowing the others out of the water. People on here are saying "VA is warmer" not realizing that you can change the colors of any monitor to make it appear warmer or cooler. You actually know what you're talking about.
Trust me I had MSI mag241c 1080p 144hz VA monitor and recently bought LG IPS 4k27ul600 hdr monitor. I am not satisfied with my new purchase. I really hate the backlight bleeding on LG IPS monitor.
I have the LG monitor and it's such a huge ugpgrade coming from 1080p. It's a 10bit monitor..well it's trying to be lol. It has 8-bit plus dithering to emulate 10bit. You are still going to see more colors and more vibrancy. 450 nits is plenty bright too. Love it!
I prefer VA but colors are way better in the IPS so at the end it comes to personal taste. I can tweak colors to certain extend to compensate but those luminous black really turn me off, it sucks.
When you record both at once (from distance) the VA panel wins, in all games. But at the beginning of the video, when the camera is near the panel, the IPS colors look much better. 0:54
because VA panel's perform could be effected by the degree of viewpoint. The best viewpoint is in front of the panel. So the recorder should be horizontal movement to compare instead of turning angle
So my VA screen monitor broke while moving (Samsung CF591) so I decided to go IPS this time, purchases the LG UD69 and it looks phenomenal, IPS glow it’s not bad at all and “VA glow” is even worst of an issue(its a darker area right on the middle of the screen, and if you move the head to any side it will move to another side of the screen) IPS don’t have that problem and you can see it from any side without black areas, that was the first main benefit I noticed. Other that’s that it looks the same as my VA, I see not disadvantage in Contrast ratio in IPS (it was one of my main concerns before switching to IPS, but now I can confirm that it’s not an issue, blacks look black. Another great benefit I noticed was a faster pixel response time (not smearing) If anyone is looking to buy a monitor I recommend IPS over VA definitely
Black wont be black in a darker room. Doesnt matter so much for monitor, usually used in a well lit room. TV for that cinema experioence however.. never get the ips.
@@TheG102 I'm sorry, but pausing the video at the right time shows ghosting. Maybe it is too quick for the eye to pick up, although it is on TH-cam at 30 fps. If you don't consciously see it, to you must see a slight blurring effect.
IPS colors seems to be more natural whereas on va it seems to have a yellowish tint. But both are fine you probably ony see the difference side by side. VA would win when watching a movie or playing dark or horror games because of the black bars. But else on usual games I would prefer IPS
I own all a TN, IPS, and VA display. I game on a 24" IPS, with a TN on the side, and I own a 55" Samsung 4k TV. Each has their pros and cons. VA TV has great blacks, but the colours don't pop the same as the IPS. Also the VA TV has terrible viewing angles, if I'm even slightly off center then there's huge gamma/color shift (washed out look). But I like VA on a TV nonetheless, better for dark room environment which Im in most times. IPS monitor has great colors, pretty accurate overall and it's a cheaper one. Viewing angles are decent, but I've tried higher quality IPS panels and their viewing angles are very very good. However I don't like the IPS glow, and backlight bleed. It's mainly noticeable on dark scenes. My TN panel has nice solid colours, but it can't produce deeper dark colours. So it's definitely not good photo editting, or color accuracy. Viewing angles on it are pretty meh too. As I move left and right, the screen gets a yellow hue to it. Some are better or worse than others. However it has very low input lag, and motion blur is less than VA & IPS. Either way. Love hate all of them. Each has pros cons. Pick your poison. If you play AAA story driven games though, I don't like the TN panel for those, ruins good graphics most of the time. But IPS and VA I enjoy. TN for competitive gaming.
I use VA for my Xbox and it's pretty good tbh usually anyone who plays on monitor focuses on the game rather then color,(in the moment) but agree with u
Newest AMVA+ are not bad at all. Black crush almost not noticeable, viewing angles also great, even better than IPS, brightness-wise. Angles on IPS can be messed up for dark scenes because of IPS glow.
and for black uniformity and better colours as well. Who the fuck wants to pay for that horrible bleeding/glowing, washed out blacks and bad contrast. Only a pleb would buy into IPS. The yellow tint will also be down to what colour temperature he’s using.
Unoriginal TH-cam Name i’ve done plenty of research and ips is inferior in every way compared to VA apart from viewing angles, you tell me how ips is better? go and have a look on here before even commenting and tell me why you think IPS is not for plebs. www.rtings.com/tv/reviews These guys go in to every bit of detail and IPS panels are fucking trash. You can even see in this video how bad the black uniformity is and black levels are on the IPS compared to the VA.
www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/sk8000 shitty IPS www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/nu8000 VA Compare these 2 tvs, Both around the same price. VA is by far superior, IPS looks like utter shit. Not to mention the VA getting a shit ton brighter both in sdr and hdr.
@X_war_88x You are completely right but in the pc community you will find many people who think IPS is better. (With a big VA monitor u will more likley have some uniformity issues in the corners if u sit close cus of angle.) Myself prefer VA anyday tho.
Love this vid, I am looking at the BenQ 32" 4K EW3270U and I got turned off when I saw 'VA' as I wanted an IPS. This video convinced me that VA is actually pretty good with BenQ. Many thanks.
@@jacobshimada6300 everywhere i went to buy it was sold out, must be pretty good. I ended up buying the Asus VG289 and that has been treating me well :)
@@jacobshimada6300 I'm using it right now as a second monitor to watch movies etc. Its been great for movies. HDR format movies are just amazing with this monitor. But I do wish it has more brightness to it, it'd would've been perfect. Now I am looking for a monitor with at least a HDR 600 certification though
Paul True. But this video is really unfair. The right panel is not indicative of what VA is capable of. I mean, the EW3270U or LG 32UK550 would have been much better
According to the best reviewer on TH-cam VA panels have a much better contrast and look much better than an IPS. I think this guy purposely reduced the picture quality on the VA or its because all benq monitors have this matte anti glare coating. This LG monitor for sure is glossy or else the benq would look better had it not had the matte screen. A glossy screen will always look better than a matte one!

I own lg ips TVs, and they have great vibrant colors, but the blacks and the led black light annoys in the dark, that’s why I went to a VA monitor for my pc, they have better blacks better light uniformity but feel colors are more pale, I think that the best of the best right now for image is oled.
My choice is done. It's VA. (I have BenQ's TN 24" and IPS 27". I hate TN for its none existing viewing angle, and hate its IPS for its unreadable text in Windows/Linux etc. None of both can be matched together as for color and brightness scheme. Its a forever delima each time I try to resolve this) (lol.... I have a cheap $49 as crap 19" Hanns-G beside them as operating-monitor for windows clock and small apps etc, and it had the right settings right out of the box. They, Hanns-G, seems out of business though.... looks like they were a korean business or etc. .....Maybe Wendel from Level1techs could be of some help about this. Idk) I'm not into gaming. AT ALL. I'm into reading and viewing/watching videos and movies. But I need a 4th monitor. It will be use as one of the two main, and put the 24" in the job of the small 19", and put the 19" sideways (vertical) in order to view all those dumb miss-mounted/uploaded iPhone videos (but will be great for reading PDF files though.... or watching old 1980s-1950s playboy centrefold 😅😅😅😅😅😅😎)
Im my opnion, the IPS better colors can only be noticed when you have something ''worse'' to compare to, like you did on the video. But in other hand, you can notice the light bleeding and low contrast ratio of the IPS even if you're not comparing to anything else. It can be really annoing. So, i think its better to get used with the ''not so beautiful colors'' of the VA panel than get used to the poor contrast ratio and light bleeding of the IPS.
2008: My first LCD TN monitor SAMSUNG 923NW..Better than CRT monitor.. 2017: I'll get a VA since I'm on a budget..Better than TN monitor.. 2019: Maybe in the future I'll upgrade and get a IPS monitor once the price goes down.. 2030: Need to upgrade, but what to do with all of these old monitors? FML..
When it comes to monitors I can tell with some time that VA panels still have a black smearing issue. IPS not only has a better response then VA's 10ms response time, but IPS average response is 4ms, and doesn't have black smearing. It also has the most color accuracy with the best viewing angles. The only con about this display is contrast. And it's more expensive than VA panels.
5:32, benQ's color production on tree is far better, wish benQ would announce its successor in this year. Actually, LG's 27uk650 has blue-ish color set, while benQ has yellow-ish relatively each other. But oddly sharpness on benQ is far good. PS. ew277HDR has not just-well-known VA panel, but amva+ panel.
It's nice to see that someone plays different game from annoying Battlefield, pubg, fortnite, all that multiplayer twitchy fps crap.. despite of I play on PC mostly.
@@avash2009 I just emphasize my surprise that some folk play story-driven games different from FPS competitive online games but again the history of FPS evolution is interesting, no doubt. Anyway, total massive popularity of CERTAIN titles is annoying. I was glad that someone play any game besides FPS online and Witcher 3, gta 5.
Shouldnt really compare the colors between these two if you havent calibrate it. The fact is, both colors will look very close once you calibrate them. The only difference with VA and IPS are the viewing angles and color shift, contrast ratios and refresh rates. But the VA these days have better viewing angles. I checked a 49inch Samsung C49RG9 1440p monitor. It has 120% sRGB and I was abit sceptical about its angles. To my amazement its as good as IPS and the curve even minimalize its shift. To add to that its 100hz as compared to the other 49inch IPS like LG and Dell which is only 60hz.
@Theresia Gorat AMOLED and OLED is definitely better than IPS maybe I should use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ as a monitor. Price for Sony BVM OLED monitor are crazy right now
@@Ssecave Check 11:47 time on the video. Cant be just me who prefers higher color range of va. It's not oversaturation. Also ips has this blue tint over everything that sometimes looks better but the movie esque green/red warm look on va is better for me. And the eyes. People have this misconception that ips is still the best thing when it hasnt been since va came out. Even with it's pixel smearing problem for normal workloads okay. Gaming was awful now all of that is fixed. The only case ips wins is viewing angles but who looks a their monitor from an extreme angle. Stock traders?
@@Andytlp He's right, the VA panel here looks much more natural in comparison. IPS always has that blue tint that changes everything to cold gel and also seems to saturate the colors in a strange and unnatural way for the final image. Above all I could tell in the game "Horizon Zero Dawn" as the contrasts of light seemed independent and crazy in IPS. Minute 1:53 the stone wall burns as if someone had lit a vengeance behind the character. Minute 2:00 the stone wall is still burning in that red color but in the distance of the image you do not notice that "heat" that the moment seeks, with what SEEMS that seriously in my vision I thought there would be at least a bonfire behind the character ... But no. It's just the tone of the afternoon soaking that rock only mysteriously. Minute 2:11 shows that there is no bonfire behind and the stone tone cools quickly for no reason. All these events do not occur in the VA panel. If we compare the heat of the light with the humidity and as it reflects in certain places if and others do not, the IPS lies a lot, as if it were ... a strange extreme saturation with its own intelligence Minute 2:25 the only moment in this game where I find a very good balance between the two images. This shows that there is something strange about that IPS that changes colors to pleasure as I said before. ...OK That was the comparison with "Horizon Zero". Then it was when I saw the "@secave" comment that the last game was more natural and original in the IPS. When I looked at him he broke his head XDD. The difference is exaggerated, it seems another game directly on each of the screens. How could you compare if you don't know which image is closest to the original? while IPS looked winter, cloudy and with that fog that cooled the scene a lot, on the contrary it happened in the "VA" where you can directly see a summer image, with humidity, but sharp. And here the real comparison to know which screen lies and which does not XDDD @JoelsterG4K is playing "Shadow of the Colosus" in the PS4 PRO game version, a second game remaster where that cold of "Colosus" so used to change it to a warm summer very sharp and DIFFERENT to the previous . "Official trailer from ps4": th-cam.com/video/ActhIPQ_DFQ/w-d-xo.html Here it looks like IPS lies blatantly, however VA although it is not perfect is very close to reality. It is incredible XDD. Also here I leave the trailer of "Horizon Zero" in case you want to compare like me those natural colors of the sun colliding with different elements and maintaining a harmony: th-cam.com/video/4YziWErIr_w/w-d-xo.html These comparisons are superficial but very revealing, show that the tonal changes are not the fault of the video game but of the screens. Or in this case exclusively from the crazy IPS that I am seeing here. Although I cannot verify a 100% supported comparison since I am doing it visualizing all these contents in my current TN panel .. What I can say is that although I cannot see such a faithful image, I notice the difference drastically. If you want to see another comparison in another game: Minute 5:24 light crashes in comparison from far to near, very different both. More faithful in VA. Blues spoil all colors and their naturalness. Sorry in advance if something is misunderstood because I am using a google translator to write this.
@@BlygirenJC Very in depth. I noticed the same. Next monitor im buying will be va for sure. Probably 4k and at least 32 inches cause i mostly watch movies/youtube and play non fps games. It might not have best viewing angles or "correct" colors for professional work, but i dont need that. Just want more vivid colors.
yeah va has some damn good blacks but after watching this video i bought a va monitor after having an ips for years and while the contrast is really good and the colors are even better than my old ips. the ghosting is annoying and it has let me down, my previous monitor was the cheapest lg ips and it had far far less ghosting and smearing than my new viewsonic va monitor both have 5ms rt but va panels have sometimes intolerable ghosting, ips has ghosting too but less and it's hardly ever noticeable but va is noticeable, so i think you either have to chooses better contrast or better response time i personally like ips more and i regret buying va, ips is the best except for glow in dark scenes
Just because a monitor has 1000+ nits brightness doesn't mean it's gonna be 1000+ nits all over the screen... It allows the HDR to work properly to give a higher dynamic range. There might be certain areas that are 1000 nits and other ares that are extremely dim. That's how the HDR works..
depends on the quality of the monitor, i have a Philips 298x4 ultrawide IPS for my desktop rig and a Samsung C27F591 27" curved VA for my PS4, but the IPS is just in another league altogether, colors are perfectly accurate, viewing angles are out of this world, the dynamic range is perfect. The VA panel doesnt look anywhere near as good, in fact it's unwatchable as you can see in the video, blue is represented as green
The LG UK650 is good for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Not the BenQ. Your statement at 2:40 is misleading. The LG is a 4K monitor so it will work well with both console.
due to the low contrast the ips panel has a white effect on every scene, looks way worse in dark colors your eye can catch the off color. Va it is for me looks way more color acurrate and natural. Pause at 2:18 you know what I mean. Their is way more detail on the trees and ground on the va panel that the ips panel just darkens up so you will miss a cinematic experience with ips. If your gaming singleplayers and mmos I would grab the va panels with hdr400 bare minimum. Had a hdr1000 panel and man hdr gaming on that thing pops out it was beautiful. Lastly check out 11:43
1:30 I had an LG VA display, and that black on the right is because of local dimming. When the backlights are fully on, I didn't notice any difference between VA(32ul750w) and IPS(32un880b). But yes, the image looks more dynamic on a VA panel even with HDR turned off. The IPS has better colors but a boring picture. I ended up returning the VA display because Icouldn't stand the terrible viewing angle. Just by moving a few centimetres, the image gets washed out, and I had to be far away from the monitor to get consistent colors across the entire screen. VA was a pain to use, but great for watching movies.
@@westernrev9628 That's because it's a TN panel. I'm talking about VA panels. I used a TN as my sub display before, but the VA had far worse viewing angles.
@@westernrev9628 Maybe it's because it was a really cheap one that I had. With the VA, a a slight head movement resulted in a washed out image(still vieable, so it counts as "it is within the viewing angle" on paper). You can view the image from an angle where a TN just turns black, but the actual viewing angle where you get a good enough image, feels like it is worse on a VA.
Great video! I totally agree with your opinion. If you can live with moderate amount of ips glow during dark scenes, the LG is a better monitor IMO, since colors are insane.
VA panel, no doubt. I have a IPS Acer predator 2k 165hz monitor and the IPS glow drive me nuts. I will never buy and IPS panel again. I will stick with a VA or OLED panel. Thank you!
I bought a VA monitor and I'm really impressed. I've only had TN before. But also an ips laptop and 4k TV. It's the best of both worlds imo. Input lag is low, colour and viewing angles are amazing. If there is VA glow I'm not seeing it. It's not IPS glow for sure. Weird looking text is it's only fault. But it's not too bad and it's for gaming 80% of the time it's switched on.
@@JRCxyz I got one of these monitors a few months ago for my ps4 pro. I think it's a great. I used it on an IPS monitor before and whilst the colours popped, the IPS glow was distracting on the blacks. Like Roger mentioned, some games, depending on the font, will have slightly blurred text here and there. But it's by no means a deal breaker. The worst I found on this was GT Sport- but then I set the graphics preference to "quality", which likely is doing some super-sampling which helped this quite a bit. Overall I'd definitely recommend it.
@@linds12341234 Thank your for the input! It's great to know the monitor has worked so well for you. Life had it so I ended up buying an IPS panel anyways (a Dell S2719H) but if it doesn't work out for whatever reason, in particular IPS glow, I will definitely go to my other best choice - the EW277HDR.
VA looks like it has a “warmer” layer on the overall surface, on the other hand the IPS looks colder. That s pretty much the difference i have seen so far. VA also has better static blacks and IPS moving blacks. I think it really is about the viewer preference which of the two s better. What about the refresh rate? Does the IPS work better than VA?
You can calibrate the display, and decrease the warmth, however you're noticing it because it's a side by side comparison, in real life with single monitor, you won't notice the difference
i think is not ajusted color beter in monitor-settings view land and sky is same green in VA same (blue) IPS view is not normal color for both 12:02 VA sky is pastel of green and blue
Though i prefer natural colour of IPS, that glooming annoys the shit out. I would rather tweak colour on VA as per my preference. New mini LED technology fixes this issue but they're almost as costly as OLED.
I prefer VA but some IPS look gorgeous. In the video i would go VA all the way !!! I cant believe people would go ips in this comparison. The blueish black destroy everything ! 1min30
I'm watching this on an IPS monitor and I have to say that the IPS "blacks" look "dark blue tinted" while the VA "blacks" look more like.."black", I never owned a VA panel but I'm considering one now, I only focused on color reproduction and completely forgot about black levels, I actually like the VA more in this comparison.
You don't even stop a second for us to judge panels. u keep moving on the games and things are keep running, this makes harder even if you pause. It is usually blur because of nonstop moving screens.
The blur is accurately representative of what we'd see IRL while playing a game or watching a movie. It should not take away from the comparison unless the only thing you plan to do is look at photos instead of videos/games.
If you are a professional graphic or multimedia designer then definitely get IPS, If you are a gamer, and love watching movies. VA is the way to go. I have both and the biggest problem I have with VA is that you won't be able to see the small details in black color. But both produce great quality got an LG VA and HP IPS. Also VA are so bright out of the box LOL.
Guys, the grass in Shadow of The Colossus is more real at IPS, considering it's a desert, I prefer to accept dry grass than vivid. On the other hand, the green in Uncharted 4 is better on the VA panel. Both monitors present better and distinct images between one game and another. Regardless, you will have a result here and there in different situations, but always a good result on both panels.
I don’t really like the yellow on the VA panel, but overall it looks more comfortable on my eyes. I currently have a VA panel, and I don’t think I can handle a IPS. I have pretty sensitive eyes, and an IPS would just be too much
I really appreciate your hard work. This will help me a lot while choosing between IPS and VA panel. I was confused between Acer IPS WQHD flat display and samsung VA WQHD curved display monitors.
@@weexes wtf? What kind of grass do you see IRL that looks so overly green? The VA looks like a fantasy world or touched up photo. The IPS clearly looks closer to real life. I think people who think the VA is more accurate than the IPS in the grass scene have been playing too many video games and haven't gone outside in a while.
What I realized from this video is that IPS is clearly more accurate, but based on the comment section more people have never worked with color grading or production enough to recognize that so they like the VA contrasty look more. So for average people VA is just fine
Ghosting and smearing on a oddysey g5 is just insane,it felt like playing with motion blur ,and as soon as the fps dropped bellow 144fps the smearing and ghosting became way worse.Switched to a more expensive ips Gigabyte M27Q and the difference is night and day, like going from sub hd resolution to full hd,the fluidity ,the clarity. Also on the G5 when you use freesync games become blur fests, imagine the maximum motion blur and then apply it to all games, plus smearing, plus ghosting,in games when you cant disable motion blur is even worse,so for people looking to buy a G5 ,know that for gaming is very bad.
What do you think about the M27Q, overall? I'm thinking of getting it, but I'm honestly a bit worried about IPS Glow (since I usually play in a dark room, but that's avoidable) and specially about the BGR subpixel layout.
The ips has blue tint so makes blues look better and the va has yellow tint which makes greens better. The blacks on va I only noticed when screen is blacked out otherwise couldn't tell them apart. The va looks good on old setting games like that one with the crocodile as colours look more natural but ips looks better on modern settings games. Tuff one if only they could join both we have a winner 😁
In my opinion, the VA monitor has a much more detailed image ... I believe it is the contrast ... or it may be that the sharpness of the VA is high ... the backlight of the IPS discourages ... but this is my opinion ... LG is in what resolution and Benq ?? because it is not fair to make a 4k comparison in FullHD, it is totally unfocused.
Rafael Guímaro its probably because LG is only out putting 2.8k. Didn’t you hear about how there mid/low end tvs only putting out 2.8k im sure this monitor will be the same.
Looking at TH-cam comments section discourage me from buying a monitor. Some people say TN is better for 1 ms the time, some people IPS is better for colour reproduction and some people say VA is better because of contrast ratio.
NEW PLAYER the last monitor I had was VA, the new one I got is TN and there’s barely any difference in response time or input lag the VA had 1ms response time and the contrast is a lot better than the one I have the now.
i dont have problem with ghosting or do they appear after months of use ?? and color shifting thing is only when you move your head right ?? I think its best panel for single user watching from perfect angle.
VA is good the only problem with VA is the degradation of colors it starts at 45degrees angle meaning on viewing angle its clear on center and degrade on all side
I'm confused. To me, and yes.. i am wearing my glasses that give me perfect vision. The IPS looks horrible, sorry guys. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about but in this video the IPS just looks plain like garbage. The VA keeps the same black the whole time with no light bleed. When looking at the snow on the ground the IPS washed it out and the VA kept perfect detail. Dark scenes are extremely gray and full of back-light bleed on this video too for the IPS. Maybe it is the camera who knows. But in this specific video the VA wins.
Well the VA made everything unrealistically too green, at least in this video, especially obvious in the grass scenes and the gray cloud. But hopefully this could be easily fixed by adjusting the color settings.
VA tends to be fruity, with high contrast... a fantasy vibe, which a lot of people like. IPS tends to be more realistic, but with lower contrast. Hence why media consumtion=VA and creation=IPS and gaming is a toss up. Darker games=VA, most games though look better with IPS from my experience. Max Loh I think the VA might have had a bluelight filter on, not sure, but they still tend to lean on the warmer side in my experience, which can lend itself to certain games. The backlight bleed is likely less pronounced than than shown here and will likely be not too noticeable in a well lit room and is also fixed with the existence of actual content on the display. IPS panels can be hit or miss with backlight bleed and ips glow; some just have more than others, gradually getting better with the quality of the panel.
I actually liked the VA monitor much more overall. Much better black levels which is key for image quality in games and especially movies. As for colors, the IPS just looked like it had a "cool" tint while the VA was more on the "warm" side which I personally prefer as it's less straining on the eyes.
I mean you can calibrate the blue and redness to what suits you. But the contrast difference is stark. Definitely VA is worth it for that.
I use Eizo EV2333W and it's have the best black level LCD can get. There was a S-PVA but these IPS Addict killed it
One thing I absolutely hate about those comparisons is when they don't calibrate color hue before the test, resulting into "inferior panel (IPS)" giving off inaccurate color palette.

The VA panel is much better, has better color rendering and contrast. It's closer to reality.

I prefer the colors from the IPS panel, but ffs, the IPS Glow is soooooo annoying like, the fact that you can't get true blacks throw me off so much

Va always better
The problem is there is that no VA 4k monitor as good as this LG monitor
CHG70 is the best VA monitor but it is 2K

IPS is far better in color accuracy than VA display,
"aslo samsung it sells the big lie fake blacks in qled"
the VA display it has the very same problem of IPS in dark scene, look at this clouding and light leak of qled high end of samsung th-cam.com/video/UaIwB6tkFE0/w-d-xo.html only oled it has real blacks
when you compare you should compare the same resolution...
And the same make as well.
J Lock how when LG don’t make VA Panels
Dumb ass people 🤣🤣🤣 this is a panel compare and not resolution. Show the colors and you notice that the ips is garbage shit
Gannicus s most definitely agree
Yeah, but he is comparing panel tech not res or brand.
I don't know which one I like better!! They both look good!
The blacks on the VA panal makes it look like the monitor is not even turned on.. impressive.
I prefer ips panel for the colors but va panel has obvious better black uniformity and contrast
that contrast is so much more superior imo.. nothing ruins my experience more as playing dark games seeing the fckin glow ruining my dark atmosphere.. screw that

I've never owned a monitor before, it's a great video an the IPS vs VA screen should be showed everywhere to give an idea of the differences, but it's still seem like something you need to experiment yourself to see the differences irl. I
think I will go for VA in the first time, it doesn't seem that bad as some people say.
VA for me cuz of the blacks. Also I'm not playing fps, I use brightness below 50, and flux with color to 5000k even lower to lessen strain on the eyes.
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Why would you care the view angle?
@@notfound387 Just a talking point people like to point out lol like who the hell is even viewing their monitor from tight angles smh 😂
Kris Opala The IPS monitor is 8bit+FRC and the VA monitor is only 8bit but HDR on an IPS monitor will always cause overblown highlights.
Va без проблем можно откалибровать до низкий отклонений по цветам. А вот синий вместо черного у ips не пофиксить. Ips параша, особенно для hdr
Best comment here, blowing the others out of the water. People on here are saying "VA is warmer" not realizing that you can change the colors of any monitor to make it appear warmer or cooler. You actually know what you're talking about.

How do you see this monitor to create videos ?
I prefer VA but colors are way better in the IPS so at the end it comes to personal taste.
I can tweak colors to certain extend to compensate but those luminous black really turn me off, it sucks.
When you record both at once (from distance) the VA panel wins, in all games. But at the beginning of the video, when the camera is near the panel, the IPS colors look much better. 0:54
because VA panel's perform could be effected by the degree of viewpoint. The best viewpoint is in front of the panel. So the recorder should be horizontal movement to compare instead of turning angle
1:08 looks pretty good and that is not at an angle
Another great benefit I noticed was a faster pixel response time (not smearing)
If anyone is looking to buy a monitor I recommend IPS over VA definitely
why is nobody seeing this? Pause the video when there is motion and notice that the IPS monitor has way more ghosting than the VA.
Richard Lewis there is no ghosting in real life in IPS, but there is smearing in real life in VA
Black look the same to me, unless you higher brightness to 100 in a pitch dark room and look at a complete dark image
IPS colors seems to be more natural whereas on va it seems to have a yellowish tint. But both are fine you probably ony see the difference side by side. VA would win when watching a movie or playing dark or horror games because of the black bars. But else on usual games I would prefer IPS
yeah it's doesn't matter a lot bro, on ips u don't have features like va, and on va u don't have features like ips
VA for the superior contrast.

According to the best reviewer on TH-cam VA panels have a much better contrast and look much better than an IPS. I think this guy purposely reduced the picture quality on the VA or its because all benq monitors have this matte anti glare coating. the color difference in the IPS grass can be noticed a little better, but the VA has better contrast, so the black is real black a little difficult.
My choice is done. It's VA. (I have BenQ's TN 24" and IPS 27". I'm not into gaming.

When it comes to monitors I can tell with some time that VA panels still have a black smearing issue. Shouldnt really compare the colors between these two if you havent calibrate it. The fact is, both colors will look very close once you calibrate them. The only difference with VA and IPS are the viewing angles and color shift, contrast ratios and refresh rates. But the VA these days have better viewing angles.
If we compare the heat of the light with the humidity and as it reflects in certain places if and others do not, the IPS lies a lot, as if it were ... a strange extreme saturation with its own intelligence
Minute 2:25 the only moment in this game where I find a very good balance between the two images. This shows that there is something strange about that IPS that changes colors to pleasure as I said before.
...OK
That was the comparison with "Horizon Zero".
And here the real comparison to know which screen lies and which does not XDDD
@JoelsterG4K is playing "Shadow of the Colosus" in the PS4 PRO game version, a second game remaster where that cold of "Colosus" so used to change it to a warm summer very sharp and DIFFERENT to the previous .
"Official trailer from ps4": th-cam.com/video/ActhIPQ_DFQ/w-d-xo.html
Here it looks like IPS lies blatantly, however VA although it is not perfect is very close to reality. It is incredible XDD.
Also here I leave the trailer of "Horizon Zero" in case you want to compare like me those natural colors of the sun colliding with different elements and maintaining a harmony: th-cam.com/video/4YziWErIr_w/w-d-xo.html
These comparisons are superficial but very revealing, show that the tonal changes are not the fault of the video game but of the screens. Or in this case exclusively from the crazy IPS that I am seeing here.
Although I cannot verify a 100% supported comparison since I am doing it visualizing all these contents in my current TN panel .. What I can say is that although I cannot see such a faithful image, I notice the difference drastically.
If you want to see another comparison in another game:
Minute 5:24 light crashes in comparison from far to near, very different both. More faithful in VA. Blues spoil all colors and their naturalness.

yeah va has some damn good blacks but after watching this video i bought a va monitor after having an ips for years and while the contrast is really good and the colors are even better than my old ips. the ghosting is annoying and it has let me down, my previous monitor was the cheapest lg ips and it had far far less ghosting and smearing than my new viewsonic va monitor both have 5ms rt but va panels have sometimes intolerable ghosting, ips has ghosting too but less and it's hardly ever noticeable but va is noticeable, so i think you either have to chooses better contrast or better response time i personally like ips more and i regret buying va, ips is the best except for glow in dark scenes
the one on left color look more rich & better detailed imo
I could tell which is which at a first glance(watching on an OLED). IPS ftw.
VA is miles ahead in darker rooms because of much higher contrast. If you think IPS is better here then you have no clue
due to the low contrast the ips panel has a white effect on every scene, looks way worse in dark colors your eye can catch the off color.
Bullshit.
I have an old 2013 TN Panel and even there, moving to the left or right the image doesn’t wash out.
@@westernrev9628 That's because it's a TN panel. I'm talking about VA panels.
I used a TN as my sub display before, but the VA had far worse viewing angles.
@@hidazipVA panels viewing angle is way superior to TN panels.
Everything looks a lot better on VA, but IPS has less ghosting and better viewing angles.
Get the samsung g7, lol (commented 2 years later)_
Great video! I totally agree with your opinion. If you can live with moderate amount of ips glow during dark scenes, the LG is a better monitor IMO, since colors are insane.
Overall the IPS images look darker, harder to see.
For me the VA is better :)
VA panel, no doubt. I have a IPS Acer predator 2k 165hz monitor and the IPS glow drive me nuts. I will never buy and IPS panel again. I will stick with a VA or OLED panel. Thank you!
same thing here. Cant be bothered with the glows anymore.
I think the VA is better ???
Colors looks more natural on IPS. VA just misses on colors. But IPS do has poor contrast. VA just kills it here.
Is it the EW277HDR that you bought?
please tell us if you have the BenQ EW277HDR and if your experience has changed at all
@@JRCxyz I got one of these monitors a few months ago for my ps4 pro.
So i think it's VA who's better
You also need to take into account ghosting. VA has a problem with ghosting, I returned a monitor over it, it was so bad.
@@virajpatel_ nah ips is much better hence why it costs that much more.
@@mickybangtang8447 delusional
The contrast and lights on VA panel seems to be more realistic, i like that, but the IPS colors are vivid.
i think is not ajusted color beter in monitor-settings view land and sky is same green in VA same (blue) IPS view is not normal color for both 12:02 VA sky is pastel of green and blue
Though i prefer natural colour of IPS, that glooming annoys the shit out. I would rather tweak colour on VA as per my preference. New mini LED technology fixes this issue but they're almost as costly as OLED.
Check the white balence on both
I prefer VA but some IPS look gorgeous. In the video i would go VA all the way !!! I cant believe people would go ips in this comparison. The blueish black destroy everything ! 1min30
Can you do this comparison between the lg 650 and the benq ew3270u
what is better
M Jax For me the colours of IPS panel is a factor more important than contrast of VA panel of benk32707u
@@BOMBERGaeta 3270 supports DCI P3 color gamut.
They can be bright out of the box, I always put brightness below 50 and using 4500-5000k color from 6500.
Why does va look better for me..
This sorta happened to me too.
The VA panel has more accurate color reproduction ability than the IPS one...
But which has lesser response time?
You can only judge if you're watching on OLED.
I don’t really like the yellow on the VA panel, but overall it looks more comfortable on my eyes. I currently have a VA panel, and I don’t think I can handle a IPS. I have pretty sensitive eyes, and an IPS would just be too much
5:31 the shirt & the trees O_O
looks like a green filter
I really appreciate your hard work. This will help me a lot while choosing between IPS and VA panel. I was confused between Acer IPS WQHD flat display and samsung VA WQHD curved display monitors.
Curved is suck.
11:06 IPS - gray is gray
VA - gray is yellow
12:33 VA - green is green
IPS - green is grey
@@weexes wtf? What kind of grass do you see IRL that looks so overly green? The VA looks like a fantasy world or touched up photo. The IPS clearly looks closer to real life. I think people who think the VA is more accurate than the IPS in the grass scene have been playing too many video games and haven't gone outside in a while.
@@weexes Not gray its look like as white as real grass
You're actually wrong, it has everything to do with white balance
What I realized from this video is that IPS is clearly more accurate, but based on the comment section more people have never worked with color grading or production enough to recognize that so they like the VA contrasty look more. So for average people VA is just fine
Ur answer at 1:30🤣
The IPS is actually too blue (cold) while the VA is too saturated :/
Even my TN looks better then both of these >.>
VA a big difference in colors, much better!
VA slays IPS once again. Big surprise.
Facts!!
11:53 The IPS grass is just sad.
That's realistic duhhh
JustJit XD we domt care if its realistic, its better to look better.
@@iroblix6199 I do.
JustJit XD welp, i should said that some people prefer realism over esthetic.
JustJit XD it is a cartoonish graphics it doesn’t need a realistic grass
IPS has too much tint, VA has that realistic strong contrast.
@@xwar_88x30 Thanks, it's unbearable to play horror games on TN panels.
NEW PLAYER yeah blacks look grayish with tn panels, only reason I got this monitor was because of the 75hz.
Thank you so much for this video
I prefer VA for visual and IPS or TN for competitive Games. IPS has bad contrast and is often oversaturated. VA has a good balance.
VA has horrible ghosting and color shifting.
i dont have problem with ghosting or do they appear after months of use ?? and color shifting thing is only when you move your head right ?? I think its best panel for single user watching from perfect angle.
IPS have slower response time than VA, how is it good for competitive gaming ?
you're an idiot, IPS has faster responds time than VA, an average VA panel has responds time of 32.
@@90AlmostFamous ips is faster than va. you are clueless. it's a fact. tn > ips > va for gaming.
