Dometic Awning Motor Replacement

Dometic Awning Motor Replacement on a Coleman Lite RV. The original motor failed as I was putting out the awning. The motor is very easy to replace but the motor is hard to find and pretty expensive. The problem with Dometic Awning Motors, or at least this one, is that the internal gear is made of plastic and strips easily. The motor itself still turns but does not move the awning. It would be nice if Dometic would just provide a better internal gear replacement but then they wouldn't make as much money. This is my first attempt at making a video. I was fortunate to have my friend Nick Stearns edit the video for me.

Do you remeber what the rivet size was on the cap?

Thanks for posting. My 9200 failed in a similar manner. I took the gear assembly apart and super-glued the one that wasn't spinning... just to get me home. Haven't ordered the new motor and gear box yet. Prices seem all over the place. Also , I couldn't tell from your pic how the motor attaches to the cap ?

Sorry I didn't see your comment until now. The cap attaches using three rivets.

Thanks for the video. Any chance you might be interested in selling that other motor cap that you didn't use? My awning got ripped off from a gust of wind and broke at the motor cap assembly. Rather not pay for full new motor if I don't have to.

How can I tell if mine is spring loaded

The best way is to look up the model number for the awning. I have changed out the actual awning on a spring loaded one and it can be done with help. No matter if it is spring loaded or not it can be a handful for one person.
