Thanks so much for watching; I hope you found the information in this video useful - apologies again for my pronunciation, particularly of Sala Kamraeuk - I can't seem to get my head around that one no matter how many times I ask locals how to say it and then repeat it back to them. Where would you choose to live? We have lived in Svay Dangkum and Sala Kamraeuk, three apartments in each location. I'd like to try Slor Kram next, maybe after our current lease finishes. Tour of our current apartment coming soon-ish. Check out Julia Haw's channel if you haven't already: www.youtube.com/@juliahaw
My wife and I spent 5 months there, stuck during the height of COVID in 2020. We were house sitting for an Australian man in Sala Kamraeuk. It was such a surreal time to be there, we were some of the very few foreigners in town, and so many businesses were closed. We visited Angkor Wat and for two days we wandered the temples completely alone, not a soul in sight. Truly magical.
Very interesting and informative. Could you please do some videos on some of the various apartments, restaurants, supermarkets and shopping centers in the various areas. Thanks😀

Hi Ben, yes the 2FA is a real pain. We ended up calling our bank and asking them to remove it, which they did. If I had my time again, I would look for a bank that uses an app for 2FA rather than sending a code via SMS. It just seems so backward when they could use a second party app, or even have it built into their own app like the wonderful ABA bank here does. Thanks for watching!

A very nice video. Pity for me that if I ever settled in Cambodia it would be in a coastal town so I can't use the information directly. But I continue to learn about the country by watching your videos. Keep up the good work.
Affordability is pretty well the same across Siem Reap. Quietness is very dependent on what's close by, and you can only discover this by going to the place. Having said that, we really like being near the river in Slor Kram.
Claire, the current home you are in what was the main reason for that part of Siem Reap? Just wondering from one part to another in Siem Reap, what do you like being near the most, or any from?😊 Also, since you lived in a few places, how was the process of leaving the agreement with the owners/ landlords? Looking forward to more updates with visas, local life/culture for expats... when you can ☺️ 🛺
I think the longer you live here, the less being close to things matters. We both have motos and I can independently get myself wherever I want to be. If you are new to SR and mostly walking, then an area like Taphul with supermarkets and restaurants (the two things you need most often) is best. Now we live in Slor Kram and I like it here because it's quiet and green. WRT leaving apartments, sometimes we left before the term of the lease had ended, and in these instances, we forfeited the deposit. When we stayed the full duration of the lease, we never had an issue having our deposit returned. Landlords understand that people move around as their requirements change and they become more used to living here.
Thanks for all that. Very practical information. I'm definitely hoping to pay a visit sometime early in 25, with an eye toward a possible move. Vancouver Canada where I live, has become very unaffordable for renters. Tho I have a fairly good deal where I currently live. Question: Do you find everything to be within fairly easy walking distance in those 4 areas? Like, anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes by foot? I like to be able to walk from point A to point B.
If you want to be able to walk everywhere, I'd suggest Wat Bo, Wat Damnak (both in Sala Kamreuk) or Svay Dangkum. There are many, many apartments available in those areas. You will have no problem at all finding a suitable place.
hello.did i speak to you about a month ago outside the supermarket on road 6.was you driving a green electric type golf car?. sorry if i have made a mistake.
Really like your presentations - I have a rather niche question that maybe you would want to look at. I’m a swimmer ( like serious😊) would you be able to do a survey of which resorts with great pools for lap swimming ( 25m +) allow drop in swimming? Thanks!
Hello, I’ve followed your channel with great interest for quite some time in preparation for a long-term move to Cambodia. Life has thrown a couple of curveballs at me and I have to make some changes to my plans. I’ve been travelling for over a year by bicycle and now I have some damage to my bicycle that cannot be repaired in Laos. Another issue is that my less-than-a-year-old iPad Pro has gone belly up on me. The screen is black and stays black. The bicycle mechanic in the told me that ordering parts from Europe or North America were virtually impossible because the government carefully scrutinizes every piece of packaging that comes into the country. Apple computer will not under any condition do repairs that originate from Laos. Apple has a send-in policy where I would send my computer to them. They would fix it and send it back to me, but in this case they will not accept anything sent from Laos nor will they ship anything to Laos. This has left me in a real predicament; no bicycle no computer, but there is a silver lining to all of this bs. Cambodia was my choice destination where I was planning on spending a good deal of time editing and just enjoying cycling the country. It’s just been pushed forward a little not a big problem. Here comes the “Can you do me a favour.” question. I’m arriving in Siem Reap on 26 September this month and I’m just wondering if by chance you might know of a studio or a one bedroom apartment in your area that might be available. I am a Canadian, non-smoker non-drinker, quiet guy and I just want to get my work done and get my bicycle fixed, I would like to get a three month lease, extendible if possible. I know you’re busy with your own life and your page on TH-cam, but I just thought by chance you may have just heard of something that might suit me. ff you can make any suggestions, I would be happy to follow them, thank you very much John Montpetit
Hi John, do you know about Triple Cats Cycle in Chiang Mai? A friend of ours had his touring bike built there and was very happy with their work. We're around in Siem Reap and can help you find a place when you arrive. There are so many apartments to choose from, and most are happy to accept a shorter than 6 month lease for a slightly higher monthly rent. Honestly there are at least 100 vacant places for every person looking, so it won't be a problem. Can you email ( visible on the desktop version of YT) us or message us on Instagram or Facebook? YT does not like links and often they cause the comment to disappear.
Thank you for the information. I live in México now but plan on moving to Cambodia. Could you please give your opinión the best área to live. I didn't have a penny ready. Don't worry l understand it's only your openion. I would like to get an idea of what housing looks like. Again thank you and l would welcome any information and advice you could give. God bless
@@ForRiel It's only expensive if you pay daily. The promos they seem to have every holiday make long term membership very cheap - around $1 per day or less. Sauna + steam room + a real freezing cold pool to jump in after, + very large swimming pool, + everything else you can imagine. Really fantastic and huge.
Really? I am definitely keen to go where the best cats are! Lucky just feels a bit... weird.. to me, not sure why. Like it's on the verge of shutting down. Thanks for watching! 🙂🙏🛵🍭🍭🍭
@@ForRiel Well, of the many i had fixed and fed, only one is left. I had lived in a nice apt complex in Sala Kamraeuk for a month and there were many property cats. My 1st day i had a visitor sleeping on my bed. $90 a month with AC. Had to move due to being on foot and having to pass a construction site with hungry aggressive dogs to get home. Mornings ok but afternoons were iffy. I have been bitten once and dont wish to repeat. I was surprised Luckys stayed open during covid. They always have minimal traffic.
Hiya! I have seen in vlogs a long line-up of street food trucks along the riverside. Which side is that on, or both N and S of Road 6? Also, is the main source of noise coming from the Pagodas chanting through a loudspeaker, like we heard for a funeral? (in Slor Kram) Thanks!!
Plumbing can be questionable and therefore can be smelly, but we have good water supply that is very inexpensive. Much of the electricity is not earthed, and it's pretty common to get little zaps from appliances. Having said that, outages are becoming increasingly rare. Residents (and landlords) have to opt in for garbage collection, and it's a private service you have to pay for. If you're away from the town centre, the garbage collection company won't service you unless it is worth their while, i.e. several residents opt in.
There are good facilities in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Generally in town you can use the facilities of any of the restaurants or cafes if you buy a drink. There are usually bathrooms in the markets, but they are often filthy.
Yes, there are rideshare apps: PassApp, Grab, and some others. You can choose a small tuktuk or a bigger remork. Online shopping has to be done through a third party. A little fiddly, but very possible.

@@ForRiel Thanks. Your assessment after the trip will make for another interesting video I'm sure.
Thank you again,,,,peace and happiness
Thanks so much for watching.
We’re is the best area for quiet living and affordability do you suggest 😊
@@ForRiel Thank you very much for that additional info.
hello.did i speak to you about a month ago outside the supermarket on road 6.was you driving a green electric type golf car?. sorry if i have made a mistake.
Definitely not us in a green golf car! I ride a Click and Jeremy rides a PCX.
Really like your presentations - I have a rather niche question that maybe you would want to look at. I’m a swimmer ( like serious😊) would you be able to do a survey of which resorts with great pools for lap swimming ( 25m +) allow drop in swimming? Thanks!
A new sports club called Royal sports Club has just open up.

Well spotted! 🧐
God bless
The best idea is to come and look around for a week or two and get a feel for the areas. Plus join Cheap Rentals Siem Reap group on Facebook.
👍👍
😇🥰🤗
Always something to learn about Siem reap
There's a lot to uncover for such a relatively small place! 🙂🙏🛵🍭🍭🍭
We haven't been to SR for a while and hopefully we are making our visit soon on our next trip. Great updates as always from For Riel. Happy travels 🎉
Wonderful - happy trip planning! 🙂🙏🛵🍭🍭🍭
Gold Fitness is a world class gym. Highly recommended.
It looks very fancy. I've never been in because of the price.
That sounds fantastic! We usually go 2 or 3 times a week to a local gym, but the annual deal seems good value for all of those facilities.
Love the wedding on the busy street❤️❤️
I will be visiting Siem Reap for the 1st time very soon💝🥰
Yep, you are never far from a wedding or a funeral in Cambodia.
I met many nice cats in Svay Dankum😻.
Lucky Market has half price deals in the fridge section and cheap trays of sliced fruits.
Excellent report!
Very informative thanks. Cook chook 😂
Any time 😇
Could i access most of those 4 areas by bicycle, i dont ride motor bike
Easily. Distances are very small here.
Hiya! I have seen in vlogs a long line-up of street food trucks along the riverside. Which side is that on, or both N and S of Road 6?
Also, is the main source of noise coming from the Pagodas chanting through a loudspeaker, like we heard for a funeral? (in Slor Kram)
Thanks!!
Food stalls spread out from the old market and also road 60 near the Angkor ticket centre.
What is the quality of overall city infrastructure and safety arrangements for electricity, plumbing, safe roads, garbage collection, etc.?
Plumbing can be questionable and therefore can be smelly, but we have good water supply that is very inexpensive. Much of the electricity is not earthed, and it's pretty common to get little zaps from appliances. Having said that, outages are becoming increasingly rare. Residents (and landlords) have to opt in for garbage collection, and it's a private service you have to pay for. If you're away from the town centre, the garbage collection company won't service you unless it is worth their while, i.e. several residents opt in.
Which is the most leafy. Maria and Col.
I'd say Slor Kram. It's very nice near the river north of the highway.
❤
Thanks for watching!
Are there public restrooms in the city, market, or in general?
There are good facilities in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Generally in town you can use the facilities of any of the restaurants or cafes if you buy a drink. There are usually bathrooms in the markets, but they are often filthy.
Another very helpful vid. Thank you for including gyms. Helps me to balance out the cheap beers 🙏🏻😊
The gyms are amazing value here. No need to worry about trying to find an apartment with one. Thank you forcwatching.
Hi Clair will be coming to see you both this month for a beer
Excellent! How long will you be staying?
Couple of days then on to Thailand Chiang Mai
Couple days ,
Going to Chiang Mai for a mountain ride to pai
After north Vietnam ride
Is it safe to live in the area that has been shown in the maps
Apart from a few areas of town that get a bit dodgy late at night, I think it is very safe in those areas. Thanks for watching.
@@ForRiel Thank you very much
Hi Claire,Do you know of any 1 month rentals, reasonably priced. Will be arriving for a recc Feb 11th.
If it's only a month, I'd just stay in a hotel. Most landlords don't want the hassle of a short lease.
@ForRiel Yeh agreed.Booked at Secret Garden. They seem to be nice people, and convenient loc.
What are the best websites to look for apartments?
IPS and Siem Reap real estate groups on Facebook such as Cheap Rent siem Reap.
Awesome video. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Well researched and intelligently presented. Thank you
Thanks so much! Glad it was helpful :)
how about muskitos? can we buy local anti muskito cream?
Yeah, it's cheap and readily available. There's also mozzie coils and citronella candles.
Are there Ubers because we understood you don't need a car, but things are spread out. What do people do for online purchasing like Amazon?
Yes, there are rideshare apps: PassApp, Grab, and some others. You can choose a small tuktuk or a bigger remork. Online shopping has to be done through a third party. A little fiddly, but very possible.
