    Always love your videos. A dab of humor and tons of pro tips. This was very valuable. I started this task blindly thinking I could figure it out. This method worked so much better than what I had tried. I spent over 4 hours trying to do this my way with NO actual progress. After watching this, I was done with 2 in 30 minutes.

    Cut off as much pin as you can with Sawzall. Place in press and remove the remainder. Push from pin side - the remainder of the pin will push through the closed side of joint. Now cut into the sides of what's left of the joint. Several cuts willbe necessary. Don't go all the way through the joint. It'll be weekly lheld now - i'll easily knock out with hammer. Same principle as drilling valve guides bigger to be able to knock them out.
    Switch arms from left to right so new joints engage with virgin hole for more tightness. Every time you remove something like this the hole gets bigger reducing friction and holding power so reversal increases holding power. Because if not tight enough they can pull out when driving.
    Before pressing in, center punch all over the inside of hole to increase friction. Dont removethe rust you'relikelyto see in the hole - just wipe before center punching.
    Remove boot and install with loctite. Acts like lube on installation but makes for very secure installation after it sets.
    Put more grease on joints and replace boot.
    Wiggly joints make noise over big bumps. You can't really tell what it is until they pull.
    Using a press allows proper, full seating of joint. The C clamp part of the tool bends a little reducing force and joint may not seat all the way.

    Great video. I've got this pain in the arse of a job to do with no tools or a press. I got quoted by a garage the same amount it would cost to buy a press! Where do you get the different sized bits from? And how much ton is enough to fit and remove these? Tia

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kris Reed, I honestly wouldn’t try to do ball joints with a press less than 20 tons. The press usually comes with adapters, if not they can be bought from wherever. You just need to measure the inner diameter of the adapter and match it up with the ball joint.

      @@VWJawbreaker thanks for the reply. I'm a bit stuck then as to what to do.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kris Reed happy to try to help. If you don’t have any experience with a press, it might be worth letting an experienced person do it for you as there is a good chance that you could be seriously hurt.

    • @GT.Bugger
      @GT.Bugger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VWJawbreaker I tried that first but for the cost of paying someone to do it who I don't trust to do the job correctly I am pretty close to the cost of a press.
