Zero to 60 in under 6 seconds and 32 sq feet storage counters some of the arguments here. It is a two seater. This model fits into the use that most people have. The smaller battery argument does not hold water here as the lower weight and the aerodynamic shape make it so for the same experience you need a much smaller battery. Also quicker charge times, and even charging from 110volts at home and it cuts down the cost even more. So performance, inexpensive cost, a killer profile, efficiency (low cost to operate) all point to a place in the market that no other car is occupying. Doomed, hopefully the idea of 60% of your gas burned to push air out of the way of your car is doomed. And a 4 wheel larger interior model will follow after launch, which speaks to the other doom saying. I think this is a puff piece.

About 20 years ago I had a $500 reserve deposit with Aptera and sat in one. Very different car now but looks outwardly pretty much the same. Oh, and I DID get the money back when they decided not to proceed. But there IS an advantage to this "different" appearance that turns people away. It is considered a motorcycle so can travel in the HOV lanes. At least in California, perhaps elsewhere.
If only a very rich believer layed on the bucks, Aptera could finally come to market. Surely, at least here in California, there would be no shortage of early adopters happy to buy. I'd get the one with the smallest (lightest, cheapest) battery pack, as I seldom drive far. Where is the angel??
All EVs will fail. Why? It will cost 10 to 30 times more to charge an EV on a 100% RE grid than it costs to make fuel from 100% RE off grid. Game over. 3 wheels is invalid. Two place is also invalid. The entire concept fails to understand what is needed. A 3 place TANDEM enclosed "motorcycle" that can add wings would be a hit if it had new combustion tech like what I am working on. 500 MPG possible on $1/gal fuel (natural Gas).
I completely disagree with your statement. I'll give you two main reasons why all combustors will fail: Environmental Pressure and Economical Pressure Environmental Pressure: Emissions have to go down, if we want to continue living on our planet. Even Politics figured that out and declared laws that will in future not allow registrations of vehicles, that are powered by fossil fuels. Economical Pressure: EVs are just cheaper to to build, to operate and to maintain, because of the simple fact that it only contains 100th of the moving parts and only 20% of the components compared to an ICE. The holy grail to is come up with a profitable battery production, which some of the Chinese automakers already achieved. Besides that ICEs cannot compete with the efficiency of an EV. ICEs have physical borders that cannot be overcome. Even after more that 100 years of development, modern combustion engines only achieves up to 30-40% efficiency, electric motors instead can easily reach efficiency rates of 95% and above. Of course the concept of the Aptera seems very strange or odd for the most people, but if you take their mission into account "building the most efficient car in world" , removing a tire and only offer two seats is just a consequence of their commitment. Especially if you consider that in 90% of the use cases there is only a driver and no passengers on board. It will definitely not too easy for Aptera to convince the majority of potential buyers with their concept, but imo it's the only company at the moment that really drives innovation. Not like the others manufactures, that continues to add screen space in their vehicle and call it innovation. I have to admit, that I did not get all of your statement though: according to you producing electric energy for EVs from renewable sources will cost 10-30 times compared to using the same energy and turn it into E fuels? If I get this right, this is definitely not true. The main renewable energy sources produce electricity (solar, wind, water) and this energy can be used by EVs right away. Producing e fuels instead is a sequence of transforming energy, where in every transformation energy is lost in terms of heat. After this extensive production, the e-fuels end up in very inefficient combustion engine. Or maybe I'll draw a simpler picture: with the same amount of energy an EV reaches 6x the range of a e fuel powered combustor. You mentioned, that you are working on "new combustion technologies". As a person, who is working also in the car industry, I can highly recommend to you to search for other opportunities now, before you will be forced to in future.
@@Plenno1 New combustion tech that I am working on will be 60% efficient at full power and 75% in cruise with combined cycle, at the wheel. Old ICE cars are 15% at the wheel on average. Peak efficiency is 25% to 30% for Otto cycle engines, and 35% to 42% for Diesels in semis and 55% in ocean Diesels. New combustion tech is NOT an Otto or Diesel cycle engine. An EV motor is 93%, but from plug to wheel it is around 75% to 85%. The weight of battery gives combustion a MPGe advantage of 1.3 to 1.5x better MPGe with SAME efficiency of engine system. 75 Combustion vs 85% EV and 1.5x for new combustion is 75/85 x 1.5 = 1.32x better MPG than EV. In Winter this ratio in City will be 2 to 2.6 x better for combustion. 150 MPG HWY, 240 City, 200 average for Combustion, and for EV 127 MPGe hwy, 138 City, 133 average. In Winter EV city drops to to around 90 MPGe and combustion 235. 235/90 = 2.6x better for Combustion. The 10 to 30 x energy input is for a 100% RE grid with 4x overbuild of RE resources with 3.5x in battery needed for a grid. This is a 7.5x factor. Fuel making is 2x. Inverters are a 1.33 factor. 7.5/2 x 1.33=5x. New solar thermal with new combustion tech give a 3x lower cost than Solar PV and 3x longer life. 9x factor. 5x9=45 times more for ON Grid and OFF grid. No EV can survive this factor alone. I am telling you what is coming, not what is now. EVs won't be anywhere as cost effective as new combustion. BTW, the engine is a combustion heat pump that captures CO2 for recycle or use in cycles. This new tech will dominate for 50 to 100 years more. HINT.
