- In today's super mario discussion / analysis / mario theory video we are going to look at the origin, secrets, timeline, story, lore, mysteries and history of a level seen in the #supermario series made by nintendo. But there were enemies that didn’t help mario, luigi, toad, princess peach, rosalina and the others to escape bowser, the broodals, koopalings and bowser jr. Here’s what I thought happened:
Normal Hammer Bros. are absent. So I think the Sunken Ghost ship held all the normal Hammer Bros. in it, and they all died, becoming the boos.

Here is what i think: We never saw Bowser in an airship in SMB. 3, so i think this could be the personal ship of Bowser. I could also explain, why it was so close to Valley of Bowser.

My theory is that they crashed on the Island, after SMB3, Bowser must have escaped the kingdom, since we see him in future mario games in his own kingdom. He happened to crash in Dino land, and then he and his troops swam to the nearby rocks and decided to set up a base there, how? By using an orb of power of course! They then proseeded to take over the Island for food and such, kidnapping yoshis friends for coins maybe?
That would also make sense with the magic ball there because bowser would want one.
Yep he made his getaway in SMB 3 and crash landed there...
It's simple really, Bowser and gang were escaping the Mushroom Kingdom after the events of SMB3, got hit by a bad storm and were flown off course. They then crashed into the rocks at night when they couldn't see them and discovered the island and took it over. Then sometime later an unlucky princess arrived and got captured by Bowser while he was rebuilding his forces to launch a new attack on the Mushroom Kingdom. The Mario Bros showed up before he could follow through on his plans.

I have some thoughts. Hear me out.
The sunken ghost ship belonged to Bowser Jr.
Evidence: The design of the sunken airship is very different from the others. Bowser Jr. is Bowser's only biological child. The Koopalings are just other members of Bowser's species. As such, it would make sense for Bowser to grant his own child his best ship to work with while the others got more standard-issue models.
SMB3 Ships:
Mostly horizontal distance with little vertical distance.
Held few if any troops and mostly relied on artillery.
Only one closed off chamber reserved for a single Koopaling.
Sunken Ship:
Decent horizontal distance, arguably longer than a Koopaling ship. Two and possibly more floors.
Could have easily carried plenty of troops, sleeping cots, etc.
(Majority of the ghosts are found is a long corridor with large open rooms.)
Several interior rooms, likely housing the invading ground troops.
... no "boss" room for Bowser Jr. ??
The construction of this ship had more ornate railings and interior framework than the Koopaling ships. Bowser only goes all out like this for himself or something important to him. Just saying.
This is where things get strange but also lend clues to what could have taken down such a vessel.
Floors 1 and 2 are completely underwater. Presumably a good ways below the surface of the ocean/lake the ship resides in as the Bros needed a pipe just to get there. Each floor of the ship is traveled between by a pipe.
When we enter Floor 3, there's no water. We are in open air and falling. But there's also living troops, spike orbs, and lots and lots of regular and yoshi coins. Hmmm....
When we get to the bottom of this "floor", there is again water. It's not rising or falling and has a current, unlike the preceding floors. And there, on an island of stone blocks, rests a magic orb.
Whatever Floor 3 was had a means of being sealed off from the rest of the ship. No water got down that pipe, but it also only came up so far from below. Strange for a sunken ship to have such a tall and wide room full of air and living creatures. Unless...
There are no decorations in this room, no floor, and the only enemies present are major artillery and koopas that can fly. So what happened? And what happened to Bowser Jr. ?
Theory:
Floor 3 was "Bowser Jr.'s boss room. Bowser Jr. was the only "Koopa Kid" to have a clown copter like his Dad. Hence, would have been the only boss fight where the boss could fly. And we all know Bowser Jr. is pretty clever and plays far dirtier than the others. The paratroopas and spike orbs were there to help him if he got cornered.
He was planning a fight with the Bros. What he couldn't account for were Yoshis mounting a defense. Green Yoshis are pretty passive, but there are multiple types. Blues fly, Reds breathe fire, and Yellow can shake the ground. Egg shells aren't much against enchanted wood and metal. But you know what is? Fire and blunt force.
Blues carried the reds underneath the ship and they burned their way in. (No floor). While more Blues carried Yellows up above and carpet bombed the ship, making it hard to steer. Between losing control of the ship and the multi-angle attack, the ship went down. Bowser Jr. said "F this!" and dipped out by painting an exit out (to Isle Delphino). The paratroopas were now leaderless and surrounded. They panicked and surrendered.
But what about the magic orb? Well, the magic orb is a self-destruct device for whatever it resides in. In SMB3 they are in fortresses. What happens when you touch it? You teleport away and fortress goes boom. Nice trick against two ground based Bros. Not so good against these strange creatures that can fly and eat the explosions. (Yoshis can eat fireballs.) Not much help.
Why does clearing the ship make the entrance to Bowser Valley appear? Wouldn't you want to know if something happened to your kid? It was to alert Bowser that his son had fallen. Since Jr. used a different method to escape, the orb was never activated.
And just to cover everything, the accumulated coins were likely from prior conquests before this fateful battle. Bowser, not being a brainy sort, probably left Jr. in charge of payroll for the troops.
Conclusion:
Is this a perfect explanation? Of course not! Any number of things could be rattling around in the internal cannon at Nintendo that we'll never know about. But I think this works just as well as any other explanation. Besides, Dino Land isn't exactly known for it's air defense (as anyone who has caped their way through a level can attest to.).
The only flying creatures not directly working for Bowser are Blue Yoshis and... well there you go. So what else could have fought a flying war machine besides Yoshis carrying attackers? Don't remember seeing any Pteradactyls in the game or anything.
Consider that Bowser left green yoshis trapped in eggs all over the place but took special care to banish non-greens to the Shadow Real- er, "Special World".
Which means he viewed them as a bigger threat. Now why would that be? Unless he was especially pissed at them over something.
So there you go. An entirely too thorough examination over what could have possibly happened to a random sprite in a platforming game from the mid-90s.
None of you asked for this and few if any will ever read it, but that's my writing career in a nutshell. So enjoy!
It could also be a "retired" ship not needed anymore and just used until it wasn't needed and during a storm possibly crashed 🤔

I know right, almost as ridiculous and fantastical as humans having elemental powers. Why should we make theories on things so nonsensical? Fantasies can't have STORY!!

Not entirely true. World 8 had an airship level which ended with a Boom-Boom battle for a Magic Ball. In fact, there were a few Boom-Boom battles that took place away from fortresses, so it stands to reason that there were more Boom-Boom-led airships than the game showed.
Here is my theory. They listend toyou talk for 1 minute and decided this ship needs to go.

Maybe a Boom Boom was travelling in the airship and with the crash it died, causing the magic ball to be released.

Sly88Frye I had the manual as a kid and it mentioned the ships from 3. I used to read that thing constantly hoping to find some secrets!

Given the amount of crates it held, maybe it was overweight, putting her landing configuration seriously out of spec for her helmsmen. (this is also one of the main reasons why IRL many emergency landings begin with an ATC-coordinated fuel-dump)
Here’s my theory:
Bowser and some of his minions, and his kids were sailing the ship to transport Peach when she was visiting Yoshi, but crashed into some rocks, and had to take over the island, when escaping, the enemies couldn’t jump, remember, the enemies can’t jump. The cannons and other weapons were lost in the sea. The enemies became the boos, then the koopa kingdom made sure they brought every Super ball to defeat every dinosaur, and make sure mario couldn’t use them. They were rushing to get every Super ball and dropped a few. They hid the Super balls and used them to enslave the dinosaurs to make them enemies and built some castles, and others. The koopa king also made a man made cave hideout (the bowser cave head) as a last resort in case Mario could defeat him. And in the end Bowser went there after the last boss.

It was a play based on real events. The “play” is more of a framing device for players to view the game through. In-universe the events really happened, and most of the play aspects were removed in Super Mario Advance 4 (meaning SMA4 is presumably the actual version of events)
0:16 Does anyone remembered that at the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy 1, the UFO flys around the castle, I think it's these aliens on the left side were the ones that controlled it.
It is believed that the ship wreck was one of the airships that Mario beaten in super Mario bros 3 and the boos are the lost soul of enemies that you killed on the airship.
The ship carried the 8th koopaling, Bowsette.

Your explanation makes more sense, I still like the idea that it's one of the ships Mario and Luigi took down in 3. It kind of gives the level this eerie edge that the spirits are trying to get revenge on the brothers responsible for their deaths.

You know, one thing that I was waiting on for suggestions of HOW it came down and crashed was a possible accident. Think about it:
These are big airships decked out for war. What if there was a misfire, or some gunpowder got ignited and catastrophically damaged the ship and made it crash in the ocean? There are so many cannons and workers (that throw wrenches) seen in SMB3, and it just seems like it's such a busy ship that needs to be maintained.
So..that IS Bowswers Children.............. Right?? I mean which is it??

It crashed there intentionally. Cities expand from their core out and would have also demanded the most supplies at that location. It also created another pillar in the process an fortified his inner sanctum further.

Remember.....SMB 3 was a theatrical performance, as confirmed by the maker decades later...this was either his real ship or the play production crew had to reassemble the ship somehow within their budget....
OneLife Dental no, Super Mario Bros. 3 is a play based on real events that occurred in the Mario Universe. practically everything we see in Super Mario Bros. 3 really happened. We see the non-play version of events in the game Super Mario Advance 4.

More Important Question: why didn’t the SMW cartoon do an episode centered around the ship to tie things back to the Mario 3 cartoon? I can think of some reasons, but it would be interesting to know.

My theory is that after Mario 3. Bowser rounded up all the koopalings and escaped to Dino Island. Bowser ordered them to kidnap all the Yoshis and seal them away in “!”blocks. Next the koopalings created their own Hotels/Castles as their own bases in every section of the map.
While they were doing that Bowser was off searching for a place to create his own hotel. Unfortunately on the way there a terrible storm began shaking the ship and making it difficult to steer through the ocean. Crashing into large rocks.
Bowser saw that there was no way to save the ship or it’s mates so he took off in his clown carrier and headed towards the Destination of where his Hotel would be best suited.
Leaving behind all of his men who even after death still hold a grudge against the mario bros after their last failure in Mario 3.
The mario bros go through all the levels defeating the koopalings one by one.
Unfortunately they would be horribly injured based on their absence in Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy.
Bowser wouldn’t realize his kids were in critical condition until after he was defeated. Enraged. Bowser would then take the battle to peach’s castle in the mushroom kingdom and have another son named Bowser Jr.
One could also say that there was a possibility that a engine failure or power failure of the air ship led to a landing similar to the one featured in the movie "Sully" except in this case it was rocks as opposed to open water.

It would make sense if it was trying to get into the valley of boweser. It was able to open the valley once you beat it right? What if the helmsman screwed up and crashed on the way. That’s why it next to the valley and can open it. This is a sick theory though.

Sunken ship? When i was a kid i though i saw a laughing dolphine on the left and someone swimming on the right. I still see this lol!
My theory on this follows suit on the Supply Ship idea:
The ship had set their anchors down to open the Cavern to the Valley of Bowser. But the residents of Dinosaur Island were on hot foot of it, so Bowser most likely ordered his troops to derelict the ship and crash it, to prevent anyone else to enter. I believe Bowser made his minions make the tunnel to the Orb so only they knew, and the Supply ship was the only source outside of Bowser himself that knew of the Orb's existence to open up the Valley.
Damn illegal koopa troopers. Invading like always...
if i had to guess i would say that it was yoshi that defeated that ship, then bowser used the magikoopas magic to seal yoshi in that egg so that his troops could control the island.

I thought it was common knowledge that this was the Doom ship the Koopas escaped in after Super Maro Bros. 3. I think is explicitly said so in a Nintendo Power magazine or something like that.
I just assumed bowser rode it (flying ship) after super Mario 3 to his cave.
I always thought the Ghost Ship was a flying ship from Mario Bros 3 with all the ghosts and it even has an ORB at the end which was only in Mario Bros 3
I thought this sunken ship was some normal ship from an unknown shipyard that was designed For war. With all of those navel guns and numerous ghost sailors onboard.

i got it! you know how the shy guys have a pirate crew that mainly appeared in yoshi island what if since we see no shy guys in all of the mario games other than yoshi games maybe that was the fate of them. the shy guys on land had all been eaten by all of the yoshi's and when the shy guy pirates left they could have crashed into the rocks and turned into boos

Maybe the ship was transporting a magic ball to a fortress.
It's called bowser valley which would mean it's the area at the base of mountains so those rocks must be mountains. Ship crashed in to mountains

In Super Mario Bros. 3 the Koopalings took over the 7 countries of the Mushroom World, not the entire world. Dinosaur Land is not located within the Mushroom World.

3:47 What if those Koopas are actually an illusion being made by the Boos to show how it all happened? And we using the star represent Bowser, and this ship was the one Bowser used to escape after SMB3, which was clearly damaged and crashed in Dinosaur Island ending with the lives of many Koopas in the ship, but some of them survived and part of these were Bowser and the Koopalings, and the Magic Ball belonged to a Boom Boom that was escaping with Bowser as well, which died in a really horrible way by smashing into a rock.
Edit: *or maybe the star was used for Mario to not be able to get damaged to show how its just an illusion and it doesnt really affect Mario*
Second edit: *What if it was damaged because of the Mushroom Kingdom attacking then? Remember that the Dinosaur Island is not really that far from the Mushroom Kingdom, so they could easily escape from it into Bowser's Valley but it was still damaged and crashed right in the entrance*

this ship might not be ownwd by koopas. this ship can be owned by anyone, but koopas attacked it, and while ship was attacked, it lost control, crashed into those boulders and sink.
