      As a Korean myself, I can surely say there is no such thing as a "Korean accent". Most of the Korean students just learn American English at school. Some of them are trying really hard to make their accents sound as similar to an American accent as possible, especially putting a lot of stress on the "R" pronunciations. Koreans tend to idolize the general US accent so they think the stronger one can pronounce the "R", the better and smarter(!) he/she sounds. This is why the Korean accent in the vid has very strong "R" sounds.
      Btw, if a Korean speaks English exactly the way he speaks Korean, I'm 100% sure you won't be able to get a single word he says xD. English is just a foreign language to Koreans so there is no fixed "typical Korean accent". a Korean English accent is just like an American Japanese accent or a British Chinese accent lol

      @FootPauler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@kimhansung6109 I mean, technically there is a Korean English accent. It would just be a not American born Korean who learned English but still speaks with certain character pronunciations from Korean.
      I get what you mean though. I’m not Korean but I grew up completely immersed in Korean culture my whole life (long story).
      All the Korean Americans I know literally speak with a normal American accent which is pretty unique among American born kids with foreign parents. Usually they pick up the accent or language habits from their parents but it’s not really like that for the Korean kids.

    You should have titled this video, "Find the celebrity (and their native country) from just hearing their voice". One trick with this challenge is that most popular actors from Great Britain and Australia will regularly play Americans, and often move to the U.S. for better movie opportunities, so over time they lose their native accent, or at least it gets softened. Mel Gibson, Liam Neeson, Christian Bale, Gillian Anderson, Portia de Rossi, Toni Collette, and so many more. Many of them have hybrid accents in normal conversation, and because they are very talented they can switch back and forth with ease.

    I can usually pick out a New Zealand accent from the pen/pin vowel shift. To my ears, when a Kiwi says something like "tent peg" it sounds like "tint pig." The Canadian accent is very similar to many American accents except the diphthong sounds on "out" and "about," which are subtly shifted. Australians have a very elongated triphthong sound on long "o" or "ooo" sounds. British accents -- you just have to memorize those. Scottish accents are pretty evident, and Ireland, oddly, has a bunch of different accents, or maybe a scale from slight to nearly unintelligible.

    Being a kiwi, I could tell that it was an NZ accent. The kinda accent you'd hear on a news broadcast haha. It probably threw them off because NZ kinda has two accents I guess you could say. When you think of a kiwi accent, you'd probably expect something like Taika Waititi, but that's more of a Māori accent, and then there's the Pākehā kinda english, which was what was in the video. Plus, I've learnt the more south you go, the less 'NZ' accent you'd have. I'm from the south so I have an accent similar to the one in the video.
    Also, since I'm used to that accent, I had trouble tryna think if that accent matched up to anything else bc it felt so familiar haha.

    The biggest tell for New Zealand accents is the vowel sounds... "Wellington" becomes 'Wullington", 'Fish and Chips" becomes "Fush and Chups" etc.

    The only thing I don't like about the channel is that I have yet to hear even a mention of the several different accents in the US and the UK. Most countries across the world seem to think of only 2 accents in the US (New York and Western US) or the Queens English accent, but there are many many different accents and dialects of English and Spanish in the US. Other than that I absolutely love this channel! I come here often to hear native speakers of Spanish, Portuguese, and German as I am either learning those languages or have little practice with speech recognition.

      It’s the same with the Australian accent, *hint* we have more than one (east coast, regional, rural, Tasmanian, south Australian). If you truely want to puzzle someone when guessing an Australian accent, you use a south Australian one, as it usually falls somewhere between your typical Australian accent and a southern brits accent. When working with other Australians overseas, ive been asked where in the UK I’m from, when in actuality I’m from the state next to them

Same with Koreans in America and I see a lot of Korean restaurants, especially on the west coast.

    5:18 triggered me that it may not be American accent though it was Rhotic. Because Americans have a different way of pronouncing the word "And". So nasal and little elongated. For example just observe the way Americans pronounce Candy or Kandi or And.
