    Best tips on climbing SRS that I've seen.. Shortening the bridge is a great idea. Thanks for the informative video. You make it look easy.

      Yes indeed! On Friday I have a video coming out that goes over a lot of different gear options, with reviews, and I mention that SRT used to be very limited. So check it out if you can.

    That last tip you gave on calculating one’s last move on the rope is very essential. So it is very important to calculate those last few steps. You are right one can easily get jammed on, especially with the knee ascender. 👍🏻✝️

    Snazzy. I used to have to do a single rope accent with just my prussics for my firefighter level 2 certification at the academy. As far as the other 120 hours I have per week (2 24s at the house leaves a lot of time for my passions) and I have been climbing with my spikes - same ol bucks as I started with in 1994- and the same petzl harness I learned to free solo climb rock (before rock maple) and ice- jk on the ice - I use hardware for ice- especially on the inner walls of mt wash killing time waiting for it to be relatively safe enough to snowboard down Tuckerman -- anyway so that SRS looks like a lot of fun, but I prefer to be able to feel the elements of the tree and mother Nature in motion as it were I would say that you can still slap the b*tch on the way up to get your feel, but it's not the same as moving up your belt- well flip line now (yep even I have been converted to a 12' flip) and slapping the tree as your body is against it, spurs inside of it- the movement, the level of decay and the hollow spots - even the true lean and the sway - just can't imagine how they are felt with that particular gitup y'all sportin - I have seen it for decades, watched it progress to the kid on here who has an auto ascend - a negative G zip line for the future of the arborist. He's all of idk 12 years old - nah jk probably 18 or 20 at least an "adult" and he does a good job - from the couple of videos I have watched, he's good with his knots, good with his trig well more like physics, angular math where tension distribution is the name of the game - a little geometry, a lot of physics, and then ultimately, scratch all of that and it's common sense...the kid seems to have it- only he and his camera know - anyway, I forgot what I was talking about. Sorry. And I am not knocking SRS never tried it - but it's not unlike my experience with a single rope accent with no tree nor any other sort of footing - a 50ft vertical line off a bridge we use to train at the academy, and the bottom prussic was on the line then to my lowest harness loop by carabineer, and then the top to my chest ring, the only way was to frog leg it, squat on the top prussic, and get the lower one between your boots and slide it up, stand up with the top one in hand and rest back on it, repeat. Fast- you're being timed and the limit is 90 seconds to get from the ground (without any assistance to start with the running end of the rope at chest height and the footing is loose gravel on a slope. Tie your prussics clip in, jump, climb the 50' rope free swinging and get up over the concrete slab and guard rail, off the line, watch stop. pass or fail. That one was high angle rescue crossing over with a multiple vehicle extrication with entrapment. Always the hard way. Lol nah I was just a kid- 25, and I was oh yeah that was module 6 fire 3 (state cert only) fire 1 & 2 are pro board as we are a pro board state-ergo every single course is a national regulation and national registry for the practical and written exams- including having to have AEMT at least - Paramedic was preferred for lieutenants and captains. I was the former, then the latter, now the deputy chief and ny back and knees are shot from the 25 years of my need for adrenaline rushes on the half hour - truck co. was it, truck (ladder) and rescue aka squad in some places - was all just us, a combination house of Engine Co (water 👍🏽 thanks fellas we were getting a little thirsty in there) truck - and ambulance. I was the douche bag who was always (as lieutenant it was actually my job) but still I felt like a douche - anyway - impatient, get out of the way, and go in twice on the same 4500psi bottle in a triple family turned apartment building fully involved - anyway, I was always doing the things that are literally the reason for certain things that were guidelines or recommendations to now be SOP regulations, hard set rules. Cowboy stuff that was just stupid because it wasn't only myself I was putting in unnecessary danger - I was also a RIC rapid intervention crew - but when I was inside, that means my antics raised the odds of my getting huet or trapped, and then the 2 guys on RIC (RIT in some areas - Team / Crew/ thats all) would have to risk their ∆§§§3$ in an extra hot n dangerous environment for me to be down- to save my butt. So yeah I think I have been an incredible ahole. And I have been in so much smoke and alcohol - usually after - not always - i think I have some damage upstairs going on here fellers and lady fellers. Wait that's right this is not even a fire forum. WTH am I doing here? Sorry everyone. Trees - Oh okay i do that too! I don't have any fancy SRT or SRS - the thing is that the trees are alive even if they are dyin - and ya can't feel it the same way without the flip line and bucks or whatever you have for spikes. gotta slap that tree and really feel it with ur heels dug in er ya know? my pal Buckin would tell yas! Ih boy- he's a helluva man, and boy is he good with the power saw, the file- the axes darn well everything he does is phenomenal. BBR i luv ya brother. take care of yourselves everyone. sincerely, FireSideSawSalePowerWalk say that 5 times fast 😆😉🪚

    When I first started SRS, before I got a foot ascender and knee ascender, I did a sit and stand with a foot lock of the rope. Not much harder then foot ascender, you just have to get the foot lock down as you are sitting into your system. With MRS, I prefered doing modified body thrust instead of standard body thrust, so it wasn't too difficult to get used to.
    With rope walking in free space, I seem to always have an issue with keeping my weight forward. My arms get too pumped from holding myself forward, and have to take a break. Any tips?

    • @blueoakats
      @blueoakats  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very true about the foot locking. You must be a beast. I can’t foot lock anymore after my accident but I’ve done it before with a doubled rope. Doing an 11mm single line would be tough! As far as your question- arms do get pumped. Experiment with different types of grippy gloves. Good grip makes a huge difference. Hand ascender is an option to really reduce arm fatigue, but it will limit the flow of walking. Conditioning is the main thing. Wear the arm compression sleeves and it will help reduce cramping or muscle failure. Also make a constant mental note to keep your heels underneath your center of gravity as best as possible. Hope these tips help!

      @@blueoakats Thanks for the tips.
      I wouldn't call myself a beast, can't do the traditional secured footlock with long prusik very well. I just footlock the rope, stand, sit in my harness, repeat. I'm a cheater, lol. I think for foot locking the rope it comes down to how much of a heel there is on the sole of your boots. The last pair I had there was too much heel, and I found it difficult to coordinate doing the lock with the ball of my foot instead of the arch. I use 11.7 mm rope

    Been climbing 35 plus years have and have ever device ever made most of them are hanging on a wall. I am quite good at srt but I hardly ever do it anymore it’s just not necessary 99% of the time. I can get up there just as fast drt and no extra gear. And I can work on my way up. Have a few younger guys 35 yrs old. who work for me who are great climbers I still smoke them at 55.

    After having climbed DRT for over 38 years, I don’t see any real advantage to SRT, especially as 95% of my work is take-downs. That said, I ascend on single rope with a frog system, but switch to double rope to work.

      @@climbhightreeservice2153 I won’t argue, but the few times I’ve tried it, it wasn’t pleasant or beneficial.

      The main advantage is speed of ascent, so for Climbing tall trees without the use of spikes SRT is a fantastic option. It’s also a great option for rescue situations. A pre-installed SRT line could be the difference in saving a climbers life as minutes matter. However, I agree with you that DDRT is smoother and I enjoy working from it when I have to negotiate large crowns. Check out the video that I’ll be posting on Friday, which gives a little more comparison between the two systems and goes over the gear better. I give a few gear reviews.
