Can you plant that high in a zone 4A?
👍
What an excellent job... Most gardeners find this out the hard way unfortunately, myself included...
Well, I stomped down on my soil when I planed both my trees, and staked them. Did I mess this planting up?
Mega big WHAT rig?
Excellent salvage of a bad nursery tree!
Jeez, why didn't I find this video when I needed to plant a tree earlier today? And why isn't any of this advice - seemingly very important - included in any of the instructional information provided with the tree upon purchase??? It's almost like the garden center wants your tree to die in a few years so you keep coming back. Now I have to go back to my parent's house and inspect (possibly dig up and re-plant) the tree I just planted for them!
I would not hire theses clowns they do all this unnecessary work to charge customers more money good luck
Why ruin a perfectly usable planting bag?
When I first got into gardening, I didn’t know if my soil was more of a sandy or clay mix… After seeing videos like this, It’s definitely not clay💀
Rejoice to see guys seeking his word..
Amen brother
Thats tuff scripture..but is literal...we judge other Christians..not the lost ..
Apologies messed your study..had go to the e.r ..test liver and kidney..they thought i have kidney stones..but its a gastriol intestinal issue..pray for my mother she has stage 4...been real hard times ..plus missed work all week..you know what issues that cause s..praise the lord ..
I’m sorry to read this, brother. I will indeed pray for you. What state are you in?
@@blueoakats east Tennessee..thanks u
Great video, I learned a lot! Will be useful for my orchard project.
Is this direction for all trees
Have you ever tried box cutting the roots?
Whoa. Those roots are a hot mess. Working in a garden center the roots on most plants get like this. Yikes!
Why not create a soil mixture with peat moss, dirt and manure, mix with a Clay soil, so it doesn’t compact at least in the area for the tree? I like the video, but seem weird that the good so I was only added to the top?
Why not add proper soil to the bottom?
The arrogance of arborists thinking they KNOW a tree will kill itself… I’ve seen so many trees with girdled roots thriving - to think that a tree cannot manage with its OWN roots wrapped around the base of the stem is really just arrogance in your own abilities like you’re the tree messiah or something
First you need to understand why the root is circle-ing inside the planter bag. This is because simply they can not find what they are looking for. Problem with the media used.
I did something similar with one of my mom's Japanese maples that i wanted to plant at my house. It had been in the pot for so long I laid it on it's side and started whacking and stabbing the root ball with my shovel to try and break it apart. Probably not the right way to do it but it's still alive for now.
Does the cherry tree produce cherries. Is this typically the same as cherry wood used for building furniture
I have seen professional landscapers mulch around trees which looks like a huge volcano is raised up about 8 inches above the trunk. I thought doing that would cause a trunk rot.
add hair to the soil if you want it to never compact lots and lots of hair Kinky curly is best. Wash it first.
7:16 There's one of those gunshots you mentioned! 😁 Thanks for leaving it in so we can appreciate your editing! 👍
Would sand do the same as the gravel?
After a long reflection after this video, I think the gravel is of little help for aeration. Using the native soil and adding mulch at the end is best. Also a planting hole 3 times the width with rough edges. Not too deep. Forget the gravel.
That’s amazing
I cannot believe how much of the roots he just leaves laying on top of the dirt. Not the way to plant a tree. I understand you shouldn't get them too deep but leaving all those roots exposed is a disaster.
I have never seen anyone be so rough on tree roots! 😳
In the south with compacted red clay there are millions of trees that never had a hole even dug for them much less amend the soil. I find it is perfectly fine to plant without adding anything at all to the hole. In fact, adding potting mix and or chips just causes the tree to sink in the hole after that stuff decomposes. I do not see a problem mixing in that fine gravel that he is using but it needs to be mixed in with all the dirt not just scattered on the bottom of the hole. That is a fallacy that the hole has to be double or triple the size of the hole, it goes back to what I said, the trees in nature send in a tiny root into the ground without any size hole being dug whatsoever. It is not necessary at all with these trees. It does need to be fairly wide so you can pack the dirt down the sides of the hole. When a large hole might be necessary is with small shrubs or flowers or small plants, those for sure can benefit with a bigger hole and a small amount of soil amendments. And the wood mulch does help prevent weeds and it breaks down and puts nutrients into the soil, but one big problem they act as a wick and will constantly pull the moisture out of the soil. If you have a slow drip on a timer this will not be a problem. The best mulch is pine straw. It will not pull the moisture out of the ground. It will prevent weeds, it will keep the soil damp and it will break down and put nutrients into the soil.
Good video. Great advice and easy to look at. Perfect! 😄
Great work guys
Thanks! To God be the glory
what in the chainsaw jesus

I think it would have been a good idea to use one of those rings that look like a big Scratch pad. Keep you from tearing it up with the weed eaters. Then next year Take it off, Use a weed cloth before Freshening the Mulch.
And here I thought screwing with the roots would kill it!
Very nice video. Thank you.
Newly planted trees and shrubs need continued watering throughout the first year. Obviously you would taper down the watering during winter months, but even then, during periods of time when there hasn’t been adequate rainfall or precipitation, you need to water them. Those fine roots hairs need constant moisture. As a Landscape Designer, I maintain the logic that, we don’t stop drinking water during the winter, and nor do our plants! There’s a saying in the industry, “Sleep, Creep and Leap” which refers to trees and shrubs sleeping the first year as they acclimate, creeping the second year as far as growth goes, and leaping (forward) their third year and beyond. In essence, it takes several years for trees and shrubs to strengthen and establish themselves. Proper planting and water management throughout the first year will ensure beautiful plants for years to come. Great instructional video!
Outstanding
Good job. As a horticulturist, this is the biggest problem I run into. Trees too deep and failing.
Yikes all that boys cmon myco and azos for shock and never on root stock … never the less keep growing my dudes not hating
The killing is not You have even get for all these massacred painting black!
Can anyone please help me. So I put 3 ground anchors and 3 ratchet straps to upright a 5 year old maple tree that was recently uprooted last week in a storm. I'm guessing each ratchet strap has about 200 lbs or so of force on the main trunk so at least 600lbs minimum. How long should I keep that setup for without injuring or killing the tree?
if a tree is already planted without the things you showed in this video, can I still do something to help the tree thrive later on? Like, can I use knife or a sharp metal stick and cut the original rootball radially out while the planted tree is in place?
Applying air to roots, and cutting or slicing the soule by a knife are very bad idea. It is better to wash the soile away by water. Applying pressured air to the roots will dry the roots fast. and cutting through the soild will cut the rootd and both methods will add to the stress the plant will have because of relocation.
Excellent discussion.
Can you do an educational video on how to stake a tree?
This tree is going to be happy and healthy. Thank you for making this world green.
