I was wondering if you clean the oil screen? I just picked up a 2008 with $8,500 MI and all the right mods. my first dual sport.
Glad to hear you're getting into Dual Sporting! I'd only clean it if you have reason to believe your oil flow is garbage. After my top end I found that my magnetic drain plug caught most of it and the screens were clean.
