Some thing I’ve noticed with Jay’s drumming style, it’s obvious that he is a metal drummer, but in some of his fills you can really hear his dad’s jazz influence. It’s really cool to see.
Made me think of Caravan by Buddy Rich from the recordings but also from the movie "Whiplash"
All music when it comes to bands instruments are grandfathered by jazz. It’s really cool to see how close to the roots he stays by pushing jazzy type fills mostly since metal is such a decently sized distance/revolution away from jazz as far as time gaps. But to combined or incorporate one into the other slightly, periodically throughout just says a lot about personal taste. Makes music what it is and makes it so diverse.
God play it at 2x speed
Yes he shows a little jazz influence in unsainted as well
Yeah when he plays you can feel the fact that he doesn’t only play metal
Joey: Amazing
Jay: Amazing
PERIOD.
Wait whos on there period?

So tired of people being mad at Jay for not being a specific guy.
What I like about Jay, is that he is so aggressive. Fast, Precise and Aggressive. One hell of a drummer.
I love how his leopard print sock doesn't match his other sock
i thought it was a tattoo at first lol
he has a thing for leopard print his main stool is also leopard lol
Haha
A sock is a sock right?
But hi still drums well Fuckin socks yea
Slipknot, GIVE THIS MAN A FCKIN SOLO IN A SHOW NOW!!! FUCKING HELL!!
Totally agree
Me too
Yes he fucking deserves it
That piece of shit clown prolly won't allow it. Fuck, he wouldn't even let the two new guys design their own masks.
They all let them originally. But, they failed at making them in the way Slipknot wanted them done. They were more casual and colorful.
1:55 was a part of joeys drum solos when his kit went from sideways and finally came back to being level always loved that part of the solo. It just always sounds like a cool way to make you feel like the solo is ending.
Finally, someone noticed! this part was totally inspired by Joey's solo.
Yeah - I noticed that too. Glad to see someone else pointed it out. RIP Joey
Slipknot, start giving Jay a solo in the set. It's time to let the man unleash hell on the maggots. That was superb. On many levels.
Gabe R. lol, that's fucking boring
HerrKoetel and i suppose you can do better? Sit down you grub. Its a metal band, hard hitting and power. If you want groove, fuck off somewhere else.
real_ launnie_mvp Yes, I can do it better. Thanks for asking haha
HerrKoetel don’t be all talk show us 😁
HerrKoetel yeah, boring like your fucking profile pic. Bitch, sit the fuck down and know your place.
That crash cymbal took more abuse than Jay does for not being Joey
Hell😂
Can we have a moment of silence for the whole drum set
😂
Ben Fenwick damn
Joey frequently use the china instead of crash when he's playing chorus
well thats a kickass solo, extra points for that leopard sock!
PetteriHorn 😂
50 bonus points for leopard socks
@The Anti Christ awh did his socks manage to offend your bitchy personality?
@The Anti Christ um, i think you were offended more than i ever was, i personally am amused by you though, ya fuckin beta
Ahahaha yeah, definitely needs extra points for socks 🧦🐯
Just realized the start of his solo is the end of killpop

i just realized, there's no piano
The solo is also his remake of the disasterpieces drum solo

Uhhhhhm, bread boys likes slipknot? And it’s on a drum video. Yeah this practically confirms my theory.
I lov u bread boyyyz
Are you listening son?
Tortila man comfirmed.
I love you
I've noticed that apparently people are complaining a lot about Jay. I never understood why drummers would put other drummers down so much. The point of playing music at least in my opinion is to have fun and love what you create. I know you can't really see under his mask but I'm sure if you could he'd be smiling. You wouldn't go on a beginner drummers first video and say, "Oh wow you're terrible! You should give up right now!" So then why the hell would you do that to someone who's making a successful career out of it? Every drummer has their own style and own methods of playing, you cannot honestly sit here and tell me you can play and sound EXACTLY like Bonham or Peart. There will always be differences in peoples playing styles. I agree if you think you can do better than post them drum videos!! Nail EVERY slipknot song mimicking both Jay and Joey. Cover their solos including this one. Do this the EXACT SAME WAY! and then the world may take your arrogant claims seriously. Music is supposed to bring joy not arguments......
+asnowball2 Well put! That's what drumfam is all about- supporting each other. Negativity doesn't help anyone. Thanks for getting it. Cheers!
+asnowball2 totally agree! drums is not a sport, its not a competition its an art form! I dont really like this style of drumming but hes a damn good drummer, the guys who bitch wont be 1 percent this good! Admire all the good drummers guys!
+asnowball2 I always thought it was all about getting together with friends playing random stuff for fun. When word got out that i have a yamaha set bam me and strangers started talking and playing next week waking up naked down the river.
george kollias - we get it its a different style of music over 320 bpms
Lars
Dave Lombardo
Paul Bostaph
derek roddy
The list can go on forever but not the same tune. I always try to steer away on whos better and let those people kill each other behind a keyboard. Have too many important things in life and it would be nice for once for people to appreciate the genre since music is dying. Its all Pop And Rap now with nonsense lyrics from wikipedia.
You are my hero!!! Lol
Not all heroes wear capes! Naw JK JK XD
Jay needs a solo at the concerts. Hes f'n amazing!!!
Slipknot is confident enough to let this kid play their shows and fill in for Joey... and look at all these Internet warriors criticizing his drumming skills... Post a video of you playing or shut the hell up!
that is how i feel. i really like Jay. people say they should've gotten someone of off youtube. i think that is not the best idea. Jay was in a band and experienced, most people on youtube probably aren't in a band, they could be good but not made for touring. i really like Jay.
You need to post this under every Slipknot video!! lol
Jay is the best fit, his skills and his appearance. Looks like Joey back in the Iowa days
fuckin internet warriors.....fuck em all !
Google alex bent
Even though I don't really like his rhythm in Slipknot, he doesn't deserve to be fired!
That double bass alone is better than my whole catalog
The last concert this guy played for slipknot was great. He played his heart out. You could tell he was drenched in sweat from how fast & nonstop he was going.
Joey is who inspired me to start playing drums 17 years ago. He was amazing to watch. But this new guy Jay is filling the spot superbly 👌.
I'd love to see Jay and Joey play together!! no rivalry, just pure beat making music!!
DUDE THAT SNARE TONE IS TOP TIER, ITS MAKING ME CRY KNOWING THAT IM TOO BROKE TO MAKE MY SNARE SOUND LIKE THAY💀😭
I want to see him do more of this.
You'll never ever see me saying that "x" is better than "y". Because : 1) Who am I, a non-musician, to say "x" sucks ? Each musician has his own style(s), his own inspiration(s) and 2) I enjoy, no matter is playing. Jay is just huge.
Listening to this at least once a day
Literally my dream drum sound. I cannot express how much I want a plugin that sounds like this. And I know that Mixwave put out the Jay signature, but it sounds so over polished and produced. This has a raw vibe, but still crisp af.
Dear Jay Weinberg:
Stop making me wanna play drums again
Sincerely
I guy who's folks won't let him bring another drum kit into the house because it's "too loud"
+thrasherfan96 Buy an electric kit!
move out and start kicking ass !!!!!
he sounds awesome.
If you don't play drums that's your choice, don't blame other people for you lack of initiative.
thrasherfan96 FUCK YOUR NEIGHBORS. that's all I gotta say.
I'm Brazilian and I think this is really fantastic. Very happy to enjoy the best band of our time
And now Eloy Casagrande is Jay's replacement!❤
perfect replacement for Joey
Jay was perfect for Slipknot thank you🤘♥️
1:14 Sounds like Pantera Slaughtered
And at 33 seconds! Im so glad someone else heard that. Thats all i could hear..lol.
Indeed! Noticed it too. Maybe an influence?
Why would anyone say something bad about this guy? He's excellent and you can really hear his Dad's influence in his playing.
One cool thing I noticed is that Jay actually tunes his snare to match Joey's sound.
Because, for example, when he played at Drum Off '09, his snare was a lot more dry and low. He could've gone with that sound when he joined Slipknot, but I think he made the decision to honor Joey's drum parts by playing his sound.
I love how he took part of Joey’s solo and put it in his.
Personally, I really, really dislike that snare tone, but dude's a terrific drummer and the toms and kick sound glorious.
Thank you I’m not alone
AspiringRocker729 the snare head is probably on the cheaper side of things but the snare drum itself is a very good drum it's the head choice that makes it way to high and I agree the tone just isn't right
He's changed his snare sound since then. If you listen to any songs from their new Day of the Gusano dvd his snare sounds fantastic
Perfect Grindcore tone
AspiringRocker729 i love that snare sound
what an amazing display of shutting up the haters ... respect \m/ jay
O talento desse cara é absurdo! Slipknot de batera sempre foi muito bem servido💪💪💪

Solway Firth
🖒
It's similar
Bruh wtf
@@mauri03_rx im sure after watching a solway firth jay performance, its the exact same just sped up
It's real!!!!
Fantastic video Evans!! The colors, the audio and video editing. everything was very well done
1:03 that's there the drum fills of Solway Firth by Slipknot!🤘🤘
I was thinking the same thing!
Indeed, he was playing it before he knew it ^^
And it's in Birth of the Cruel
I got nothing but respect for jay! That was an awesome performance!!!
A drums solo with more than 1,5millions views. Thats something really good for our drums community. Thanks Evans, Jay and Slipknot. Thats Nice to see people interested on It.
love the snare so tight and crisp
Never been more bored watching a drum solo.
1:01 Solway Firth?
And Birth of the Cruel
nah bro, he's wearing his .5 Grey Chapter mask
Vidit Jain this video was shot before wanyk, but doesn’t mean he can’t do the same fills as newer songs. Jim played a liars funeral in a video 9 months before it came out. But he wasn’t assured a permanent place in this video yet so it’s not fair to say that he had already written that part for solway firth.
I miss Joey as much as the next guy, but let's call a spade a spade: Joey hasn't played this clean in many, many years.
A dumpster in a back alley abortion clinic is cleaner than this solo.
Lololol at this retarded statement
rippindrummer666 Yeah, well then that says a lot about Joey's ability to drum these days, doesn't it?
@Brett the Behemoth Joey jordison was always overrated also
He started caring more about fuckin Murderdolls and you could tell lol
1:55 Reminds me a bit the solo of Joey !
I think he thought about that solo for a second. I had the same thought as soon as I heard that part.
Good shout!
true hehehe
2002 drum solo disasterpiece DVD
+Christian Sarmiento yeah he was showing joey he could play it better
Seeing jay absolutely demolish that kit with his skills makes my day !
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Joey has better reputation than Jay for his time in Slipknot, that's about it. He was there since the beginning. If the roles were switched, then people would say that Jay is better. He's a much younger drummer, so he needs time to grow on people.
Thats really true
Pony Manly exactly! What I keep saying is that after the next album drops in 2019, in that year, or at least soon after the release, people are going to love him.
I like them both but, I personally think joeys drum style works better for the band and I do think what you are talking about has shaped my opinion because Joey inspired me to play drums and my style has been very similar to joeys
True but no one wants to see their favorite band change like that. After Paul’s death the band would never be the same and then Joey left and now Chris. All were there from the beginning and the band has a different feel to it now.
Joey was the one who put this type of drumming style on the map. Also we grew up listening to Joey and the rest of the band, we’re attached emotionally to all the band members not just the music.
I love evans head
Who else went and tuned their snare really high after this? lol
Literally nobody
I am going to do it NOW.
@cheyne Jay sounds like shit too. Nothing remotely special or interesting about his playing
@@pepos2571 CHECKMATE
this is for live show porpouses
It's truly something incredible to behold how much he has grown as a player and how his growth has informed Slipknot's sound from album to album since he's joined the band. Jay in 2023 can absolutely dust Jay from 2015. Jay's artistic personality and his approach to his instrument is as vital to the band's identity as Jim's riffing, Sid's scratching, or Corey's voice, and at this point I can't imagine (nor would I want to) Slipknot without him.
2:32 Hes got all those cymbals and uses 1 and it still sounds good.
daltondrummer yes.
And when I only use 1 cymbal it sounds shit xD
razoR Games what cymbals do you use?.......
daltondrummer
He used 5!
Well I believe every drummer has his favorite cymbal
so young and already one of the better drummers of our time, tremendous
Monster at The Drums!
when he starts playing in the beginning it sounds like the fast ending-ish part of KIllpop
Jesus that snare tuning
God damn jay...that was awesome. When Joey left and you started drumming...I had no fear, I knew you you'd do just fine.
Omg i love the snaree
This is the most epic solo I've ever heard good job jay
1:55 beat is lit!🔥🙌🏻
Of course, is literally the final part of Joey's solo

I feel like a wine taster. Getting that 9.0 Solo snare, with a hint of Vinne Paul “booming kick with a mild echo”. Kit sounds fetch

That snare😩😳such a clean sound
Grey chapter is epic.
I love the sound of the snare!
People get this mixed up.. there are two types of drummers.
People who play drums the majority of the time without music. Your TH-cam solo elitists... They may come from bands but they have a practice schedule for themselves alone on the kit.
People who, for the majority of the time, play in bands. Don't practice alone.. Learn things from listening to tracks on the way to a gig or jamming in a practice room.
Jay is in no way a shit drummer. he's just the latter of my explanation.
gazzman2006 every drummer makes time to practice alone. There’s ALWAYS gonna be a chance for 30 min here, 30 min there, no matter how busy your schedule is. It doesn’t matter if you’re on tour, have kids, and a full job, you can find the time. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
gazzman2006 That does not justify the very poor drum technique for a world class band like slipknot. Hell, I myself know i suck compared to him. (Before anybody trigger the so used “u r not betteeeeeer, bet u cant do it betteeeeer,(read it with stupid kid tone)”. But c'mon, just like the other guy said: For God Sake u make a space for practice no matter how “busy” you are. Specially when u are now slipknot drums image and evans gives you a spot. You dont waste it like this. It hurts, and some stupid people surely will again argue something stupid to answer this with the dumb phrase of: “wElL tHats A traumatized JOEY FAN i’m sure😌”.... 🙄 Fuck u in advance🖕🏼This tought has nothing to do with the old useless absurd comparison talk. Only drummers will get it. One thing is who you prefer as a drummer, and the other is to be honest when u watch a poor performance/“solo”.
Has a jazz groove to it. I like it.
the snare sounds a lot like the snare from Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses
Well it’s about time he made a drum video 😎 this shit was dope
Me gusta mucho Jay.

Does Jay use the same Bass heads in the recording? i don't really like the sound of the bass heads in the Gray Chapter album. But man i absolutely love that snare and those toms! The snare just sound very incredible!
Jay had recently switched to Evans prior to the filming of this video. He had toured with the new drumheads but had yet to record a Slipknot album with them.
+Evans Drumheads One more question, i saw a Zildjian's video of Jay playing some Slipknot song, and i spotted Remo heads on the bass heads and in the AOV performance thumbnail i spotted Remo heads instead of Evans. Those video was filmed 1 year ago in a Slipknot show in Xfinity center. And why did he use Remo instead of Evans at that time?
Radya Mardika It was probably just easy to find Remos in the corner of every music store. I personally find that Remos have superior tone over their entire lifespan and have an unbeatable natural feel, but Evans probably cut Weinberg a deal he couldn't refuse. Often times companies distribute free products but mostly, publicity.
To their artists that is.
Radya- It's likely that the video was filmed before he had signed on with Evans.
The sound of that kit is fucking mind boggling.
Does 1:01 to 1:11 kinda sound like Solway Firth or that just me?
Correct.
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!! He probably just really liked that fill and used it on the new album. I heard it on the new album multiple times.
I am a jazz drummer and not a big fan of rock drummers, but that being said Jay has excellent hand and foot speed and plays his style of music as well as anyone else I've heard!
Sucks Slipknot fired him he can never fill Joeys shoes but Jay did not disappoint he was awesome
He’s so awesome drummer 🤟🤟🔥

and then I was like shit that's max weinberg and they were like who?

first part of the solo is from killpop hehehe
he is a very good drumer. i like him in slipknot. he plays the songs really good.
dude 1:53 sounds very similar to the disaster pieces solo when joey gets brought back down level from being vertical on the pentagram towards the end of the drum solo before he does the drum roll at the end lol. Go watch it and youll hear and see the same riff!🤘
Well joey is one of his influences soooooooo uno
He starts playing joeys live solo licks at 1:45. Super cool he incorporated that- nice tribute to Joey.
