Great little car and excited to see more videos on it, but fucking hell Taylor you fleeced that poor lad. Even for you that's out of order, for a turn-key car with such a clean underbody the agreed-upon £1500 was far more than fair.
Absolutely. You nailed it. Using their minor celebrity to manipulate people for good content. Better content would be doing a fair deal. Everybody wins. Alex is turning into a proper dick since his success with this channel.
@miskatonic6210 the problem is, they used a position of power and essentially exploited the lad.. he probably wanted to see the car on TH-cam and meet one of the guys, £1500 was a great price for it anyway, but I think Taylor really took the piss
Not a big fan of the way they haggled a fan of the channel for £400, considering that seems like an insignificant expense for the channel. He was already selling it for less than its worth. I get that they have to consider the financial aspect, but it does seem unfair.
doesnt feel right when they are getting all these parts given to them for free as sponsors to fleece the guy out of £400 when it was already a great deal.
Was he selling tho? It was a mate of his asking if he wanted to and he went, erm OK. It's not the same as it being listed, it was an off the cuff decision.
There is something as getting a good deal ... and ripping some one off. Lewis deserved that 1500 at the very least and you would have gotten a super deal. That extra 400 seemed rather brutal. Reading these coments now, clearly not the only person here thinking thise. Great to read.
I usually love these guys, the videos are really fun but they truely robbed that guy. What a bargain to get it for 1500 but haggling 400 more off the price is crazy and disrespectful, especially because its a subscriber… they should pay him back the £400 or give the guy the car back with fresh paint and looking nice, that would be an awesome thing to see.
@@murry001There is no need to be insulting. If you are comfortable with haggling yourself then you might not fully appreciate the level of confidence, skill and product knowledge (or ability to lie convincingly) that is required to do it well. I’m on the other end of the spectrum and more likely to get ripped off by a seller but same principle applies. We don’t know how the haggling went down and it might even transpire that the seller did not care how much he got. But at least as presented in this video, it is not a good look at all. Yeah a bit harsh, but it was in a hedge for a year, that doesn't smack of desparation to me. It could have been sold immediately when the guy knew it wasn't the appropriate car for a much better price. The flip side can be the bloke in Scotland selling a shite bike for £1200. That was never worth £1200, but he kept the price high cos he knew with cameras etc he could dtay high on the price.
Right, so he's asking for £2000 but knocks it down to £1500 after asking. Straight away that tells me he's a bit desperate. That car for the parts and rarity over here is easily worth that money and frankly is a steal at that price. If that had been the purchase price then fair enough. But unless you've subsequently uncovered some previously undisclosed major faults or issues with the vehicle on inspection, to then take him down to £1100 smacks of taking advantage of someone, be that their situation or personal characteristics. That's not a good way to demonstrate the positive side of the car community and looks bad on the channel.

MCM got me into the TH-cam car scene. I love the fact that these two channels have made contact. The future of car entertainment on TH-cam is looking bright!
I used to get slightly annoyed every time Mike Brewer on Wheeler Dealers used to stripe up some poor, impoverished medical student, looking to sell their banger so they could buy their parents a present for all their sacrifices (for example), and he'd come away gleefully shouting at the camera that he'd "stolen it", carping on about what a great negotiator he was...happened about every other episode! Guaranteed, there is a perished component under the bonnet that is basically unobtainium in the UK, and it costs £1000+ duties+ shipping from Japan. No one is letting that car go for £1100 without there being a massive obstacle to passing the MoT.
This was my thought too. Parts aren't exactly off the shelf items in this country, and may not be even in Japan. Everyone is assuming that "change in circumstances" mans the guy is hard up for cash but maybe him and his mrs had a baby and he hasn't the time to put into the project nor the use for it afterwards and just wants it gone. If it was worth thousands then he could have sold it any time since it went in a hedge, but didn't which tells me he isn't in dire need of the money and is happy to help out the channel and probably knows only too well that the car needs a good few quid spending on it.
I get that getting money off is a challenge, but this car was worth way more than the 2000 he originally wanted and taking it for 1100 is just a little unfair. Especially with the amount of money being spent on camera so often.
You must be a royal moron if you think that something is robbery when both parties agree. I do not care how much money you have, if there is two options on a table, identical but one was cheaper, the vast majority if not all people would seek the cheaper option, even if it doesn't benefit them that much if at all.
The price didn’t really bother me, but the way Alex and Taylor were man handling the car did. Bending the hood, flapping the windshield wipers around, caving in the quarter panel from pushing it around. It’s your car, so whatever, but it’s not a shitbox and people really want these cars and respect them.
Saw all the prices online, beat your seller way down, then gloated about it? Maybe he was happy just to get rid of it, but it came across like Taylor ripped him off, and then rubbed it in his face.
Great channel, but hammering the lad down to nearly half price is not cool. Having got it back and found out how good it is you should give him that £400 back, or give him the car back when you have finished with it. Read the comments, you did the wrong thing and then gloated about it. Not cool guys.

I'll agree with the sentiment here. The guy is a fan, he loved the car so much but had unexpected circumstances and was asking for such a low price. 1500 was already a killer deal, lowering it more and boasting about it is just mean. You're a growing channel, you've got the money, give the chap what he was asking for, be better than this.
So many people crying about the guys doing "Louis dirty" First point...the deal wasn't done on camera.... so the argument he was forced due to it being on TH-cam is out of the water. Second point... no one imports a kei car because they're broke... most people that buy these cars have money to spare... Louis would have known the car needed allot of work so knew he wouldn't get his money back... most people in these situations care more about who gets the car then how much they get... Third point... the main point of this channel is buying cheap shit boxes for as cheap as possible...therefore if you have an issue with that concept...why watch the vids?

Just freshen it up, future-proof it so it can be preserved as the cute rarity that it is, anything more than OEM+ as you discussed seems unbecoming in my opinion. Yeah, I feel bad for them, I'm starting to dislike them, I'd be okay even if they negotiated it down to prove they could, and then pay them the actual fair price, because bargains are good content yes.. but, you should still pay people fairly
@@Foggy404 can you say honestly, that if you bought a car, in a hedge, which was not proven to run or drive, no access to check the condition underneath and then you found it better than you expected when you got it home, would you phone up the seller and give them more money. No, you wouldn't. You would count yourself lucky and offset it against other stuff you had bought (like the AA crew have) that you had then found to be worse. Some you win, some you lose. If you are comfortable with haggling yourself then you might not fully appreciate the level of confidence, skill and product knowledge (or ability to lie convincingly) that is required to do it well. I’m on the other end of the spectrum and more likely to get ripped off by a seller but same principle applies.
You're a growing channel, you've got the money, give the chap what he was asking for, be better than this.
So many people crying about the guys doing "Louis dirty"
First point...the deal wasn't done on camera.... so the argument he was forced due to it being on TH-cam is out of the water.
