    If you think car payments (w/ interest) for 5-6 years are bad, imagine one for 18 years. That's what Child Support payments are like. It's the worst. And the more you make, the more they take. Don't have kids myself but I have friends going through it.

    • @awesomezone7386
      @awesomezone7386 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      ominous450 I never thought of it that way! But it's like being in debt for 18 years but of course child support is still not enough to support a child until the age of 18. It is more of a helping hand but the receiver puts in the 80 percent of the rest for the child's needs.

      I would not really compare a car to a kid, really. I would even say having a car is more expensive and by the way I do not know how the law works in the states but if he is a repsonsible father he can always ask for joint custody, it is up to him. The same situation here and by this contribution I have finished writing on social media as I can see (not here) that some people¨s parents were really cousins if I can put it as Mr Ramsey put it.

    • @awesomezone7386
      @awesomezone7386 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Whoever ends up being the primary custodial parent whether mother or father basically take the 80 percent load. In the state of Texas it is 20 percent of take home pay and each additional child there is a 5 percent increase. Car and kids should not be compared I agree because a child is priceless and a vehicle drops value as soon as it leaves the lot.

    • @ominous450
      @ominous450 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      you all bring up valid points especially Nina's Blessings. If I ever have kids and am unfortunate to have a divorce, I will go above and beyond the bare minimum of child support. I will be in their lives, I'll make sure they have more than I did growing up, I'll go the extra mile.
      The point I was trying to make is divorce when children are involved SUCKS on both sides. It sucks for the parent who has to pay child support and might not get to see their kids as much as they want... And it definitely sucks for the single parent who has to take care of the children by themselves. It sucks for the child too.

    So, those who know, know this: She will receive custody of the child, child support and possibly alimony. She will claim he was abusive, alienate him from his child and she will boast that she is a strong, independent woman. A 304.

    It still baffles me about today's outdated marriage laws. Yes, I could understand child support. However, child support, with court proceedings always favor the woman in 85-90% of all cases. Rarely do men get 50% custody. In addition, child support is taxed a %, here, in the state of Louisiana, I'm taxed 5% by the state. In addition, why should alimony be paid to the ex (whether it's male or female). Are they not EQUAL in this day and age of equality? While I respect the institution of marriage as a religious ceremony, in today's legal representation of marriage, it's a failing contract and it's self evident. There's a reason why men don't wish to marry.
    As far as the caller, she seems to have her head on right and is willing to rectify her situation. I hope the best for her. Yes, that includes child support if the father doesn't want the child half of the time.

      The theory behind alimony is to enable the recipient spouse to have a means of support and to be able to maintain a reasonably comparable standard of living. It was originally created on the assumption that one spouse (typically the husband) was the breadwinner. However, in today's times where both spouses can, and typically do, earn roughly similar amounts, I think alimony is still fine but should be adjusted downward to the extent the recipient spouse is able to, and does, go to work and receive their own income.

    I love Dave, but he always presumes the guy is the problem. For all he knows she was using this credit card on top of her husband's income to buy these "necessities" and that is what is leading to the divorce. She does Mary Kay and has a job that makes peanuts. She has student loans and a job that does not support the money she wasted on education. There is likely more clothes, shoes, acrylic nails, and cosmetics on that credit card than she is willing to admit.

    • @vernonu7314
      @vernonu7314 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you. We do not know the husband's side of the story. What happened? Did he find out that she was racking up credit card debt behind his back? Did they have a paternity test and found out the child was not his? She went to college and has a full time job making less than $10.00 an hour? There is a lot we don't know about this story.

      @@vernonu7314 yea I agree, as much as Dave gives great advice & can spot certain issues in most ppl’s stories, I don’t really like how he’s quick to blame the male, cuz it’s bias, he only gets one phone call from a TWO-sided story, so what does that tell us…. There’s more to it than what the caller tells us 🤷🏽‍♀️ as far as I’m concerned there could’ve been other issues within her and her man yet she may not wanna talk about what she did or might’ve caused for him to divorce her

      jcrowley1985 ha! Yeah right. It’s the majority but not always. Sadly there are many women who are Married to men who can’t provide at all. They divorce and she now has to pay him alimony .
      Traditionally , if the woman was home with the kids , it makes sense for her to get money. The man was able to get where he was because he had someone taking care of THEIR kids and him.
      Granted some men are staying home these days but that is still rare.
      I don’t like hearing about women who clearly are exploiting their ex though . Or vice versa

He just received 120,000 inheritance after his grandfather died and he is still coming after me for Alimony and child support trying to all of sudden be dad of the year . The courts don't count inheritance as part of income. I am barely surviving on my income that I worked so hard for supporting myself and my daughter. I truly do have more sympathy now as I understand it's mainly men that face this but trust me the coin is getting flipped a lot more than you think.
