- Police in Montgomery County have issued a warning to residents amid rising thefts of Honda vehicles over the last two months.
Upper Merion Township police are investigating fewer than a dozen cases and say thieves have targeted apartment complexes in the Gulph Mills area.
"I understand two tenants from the development have had problems," one resident of Gulph Mills Village Apartments told Actions News.

Another example of worthless journalism. Tell a story but never got to the root of the problem to identify exactly how the theives are taking these cars so owners can put on defensive measures!
The answer is thieves are likely getting in through a replay/rolljam attack on the computer. This type of issue has been a thing for years.
You want a step by step guide on how to steal a Honda? So more kids can learn like what happen to Hyundai and kias?
They literally gave a list of defensive measures
Don't listen to thelegitalpha, it isn't all the answer, they usually target push to start vehicles since you just need a keyfob and a programmer. They may do a relay/rolljam attack but simpler to just lockpick it or break the windows. After getting in, they use the programmer in the odb2 to program the keyfob to immobilizer, and then start the car and go. CBC marketplace showed the thieves using lockpick and stole it in a couple of minutes with this method for push to start vehicles .
Critical thinking skills this few generations has been onn a steep decline. They can't form their own opinions and just parrot whatever they see is the most up voted on another videos comment section. Video literally gives out measures one can take to deter the theft. And the reason why they don't show how thieves steal the cars is so they don't spread the method to other bad characters.
Problem goes away immediately if we start looping off digits

Yes they are 💯

so if Honda knows there is a problem, they should supply the tracking for FREE, not charge for it.
oh believe me, they know they can. its a free market for them
Lawmakers are useless! It should be 20 years mandatory in jail for car theft including minors
It should be considered as harsh as driving without insurance, registration and impaired because they are clearly not in the right state of mind!
That’s why it’s so common nowadays.
Minors know they will get out that same day with a slap on the wrist.
Time to change the damn laws.
That helps nothing btw
Pounce on your local county government. They're the ones writing flaky laws that cater to criminals.
It’s not just Hondas, they can mimic the FOB signal from other car manufacturers too, including Toyota.
they say its not fob signals. probably an obd port hack.
They might get into my Toyota but I’ve still got an old school keyed ignition
@matthewcaughey8898 and they can hotwire those types of cars.
Wish they would specify which years of Honda they are targeting (instead of just saying "newer").
any of them with remote keyless entry, this is common for other brands too so yeah
@@k.skyl1n3zzthis isn’t that relay attack where they use the signal of the key fob . This is something different it seems.
I swear 🙄
@@justintime4466 They don't necessarily use the code but probably use a device to send out different tones on different frequencies very quickly in hopes that one will unlock (hence under 5 minutes) it may take the device a few minutes to generate the right signal on the right frequency. Some cars have more complex unlock systems, where it may need to verify with the fob (send a code back) before it can unlock, so simply tripping the lock with a signal on the right frequency, but I think some (for cost reasons) don't implement this extra step.
@@justintime4466 Just heard that my in-law cousin 4 years old Infinity was stolen overnight on street in front of his Brooklyn NY home. Checked the security footage and see a car pull along his parked car, broke a window, got in and drove away in a minute. Was able to track the car to NJ shipping pier then lost the signal. Heard from my NYC police nephew that the thieves now would use something like a emergency window air cartridge pin to shatter the window (low impact so the alarm would not be triggered), then a device that connects to car's OBD2 (computer) to override the car security immobilizer.
They can find you in your own car if you do a crime and running away, but the moment your car got stolen they can’t locate it 😅
A lock on the brake will definitely stop them. Thieves don’t want to take the time to work on the lock. I have a clutch lock on my Subaru STi with an AirTag hidden in the car. Plus people can’t drive stick nowadays 🤷🏾♂️
Stick is anti lock all in itself. No kid under 20 even knows what the third pedal does😊
Very true...lol
Sweet!
I'd argue that modern transmissions are probably harder to override in reality. Although if they can start the car, then it's easier, but if they can't a modern electronically controlled tnras is actually more secure because there are certain things that must happen to move it into different gears, controlled by the computer, whereas a manual is mechanical and if someone knows to push the clutch in to move the stick to a gear, that's all they need to know They don't need to know how to to drive a stick, just how to get it into a gear, which if the ycan figure out this, they can probably figure out to press a clutch pedal and move a gear shifter.
@@dmo848two of my 3 Hondas are sticks and all 3 used a traditional key and not the push button start.
So their solution is to spend money on their useless service and buy an AirTag? How about making it harder for thieves to steal cars by adding tougher encryption.
Pull the fuel pump or starter relay. It’s not going to go if the fuel can’t get to the engine or the starter doesn’t turn

Wow, they found out how to override the computer, imagine what they could have done if they didn't resort to crime. The average person probably doesn't even understand how it works.
Nah, these types of people will be criminals anyway. Some do it just to see if they can do it, and then maybe stop, but most it's a "job" for them and an income. Whether it's stealing cars or people's data or other tangible/intangible items. I would say only "white hat" hackers make a legitimate living doing this type of stuff, but they are generally legally hired and autohrized to hack a system for testing purposes.
This has been a warning for YEARS. Since even 2008, and Honda just hasn't done a damn thing about the issue. Consumers have gone after Kia and Hyundai for the past 4 years, and hard, but they haven't gone after Honda which was in the top 3 list for so long, but with Honda knowing that their cars were targeted for THAT LONG, why haven't they done anything? This is why I've stayed away from Honda since 2015 which was my last car I've ever owned. Fortunately, none of my Honda's (Civic EX, Accord), weren't stolen, but just knowing that Honda hasn't done anything, nor do they care enough to, really left a bad taste in my mouth.
get a manual transmission, best anti-theft system available
Imagine putting that much time and info into doing something productive. So now the consumer has to buy a subscription and a $90 air tag? I'm starting the think these corperations are in cahoots with the thieves. Mighty funny how now we need to put more money into their pockets when our stuff shouldn't be vulnerable to being stolen.

I love Honda's
Thieves too
They don’t suggest an alarm system or going old-school and getting a club on the steering wheel. They say track your car so we can find it after it gets stolen when we have free time.
My 2017 Honda still uses a key to start so that means thieves have to use the good old method of hot wiring??
Yes but if you buy a steer wheel lock your good . Go to your hood and unplug the switch
I believe all Acura/Honda that use actual key. With immobilizer chip inside are much more difficult for theft. You will see “V” on the key shank towards the transmitter. Although if they want to steal it doesn’t stop them from getting a tow truck.

I remember in the 90’s higher trim level Hondas and some Toyota models like MR2s where being stolen for seats, radio and interior upgrades, people got the “Club” steering wheel lock bars but sadly OEM steering wheels have to be soft (easy to cut) metal for crash safety purposes.
They’ll steal your interior, radio and your “Club”
Buy an Alarm with fuel cut off, thats what I have on my Honda. Car will only crank and not turn over with alarm activated.
The best thing to do is to install a secret kill switch in your car like I did. They can be purchased from Harbor Freight for around $7 bucks. You gotta make it hard for them to steal it. Most people are driving around with no line of defenses that's what the real issue here is. The switch ain't perfect but it's better than nothing at all.👍😎👌
A good case for putting less computer garbage in cars.
Use a dedicated GPS tracker unit instead of an airtag. If they have an iPhone the airtag will alert them but a GPS tracker unit inside the paneling will not alert anyone regardless of what phone they have. Plus apple has too much of your data anyway.
Just install a gas or power line disconnect switch no power no gas no go

When it comes to security you have to have a failsafe - a mechanical as well as an electronic one.

Connect a GPS tracker with a fuel pump shut down feature. You can stop the car anytime you want with that and you can find the location of the car too. No one can steal the car when fuel pump doesn't work. I have put one in my car.

With my experience with these new Hondas, making them smarter and more advanced has essentially made them dumber and easier to steal.
I used to have kill switch on my cars, in plain sight. We'd get a factory option button for an option my car didn't have and run the line from the keyswitch to the starter relay through that. You had to hold the button while turning the key.

Sounds like the dealerships are selling their software in the secondary market.
Put an after market alarm on your car that comes with a starter disable & gps tracker. CompuStar, Viper, Prestige, etc. makes them. Also put wheel locks on. These are just deterrents. End of the day if they want it more than you, they’ll get it. Sorry to say.
