  • Calico Ghost Town is a historic mining town located in the Calico Mountains of the Mojave Desert in Southern California, USA. It was founded in 1881 during the California silver rush and quickly grew into a bustling mining community. The town was named after the colorful hills surrounding it, which resembled a patchwork of different hues. The town experienced a rapid boom in the 1880s but faced a decline in the mid-1890s as silver prices dropped. By the early 1900s, most of the mines were closed, and the population dwindled. As mining activities ceased, Calico became a ghost town. By the mid-20th century, it was nearly deserted, and many of the buildings fell into disrepair. In the 1950s, Walter Knott, the founder of Knott's Berry Farm, purchased Calico and began a significant restoration effort. The goal was to preserve the town's history and turn it into a tourist attraction.

I would love to walk around this historic looking town.
Learning about the past how people lived is always of interest to me.
And the shops look great for browsing and shopping.
    Plus the train ride.
This video could have been a lot longer where the man would not have to have rushed going in and out of every building..... ☹😧

Good video. I haven't driven to Las Vegas in a while, but you know, it's a long drive from L.A. I've seen the sign on the freeway, but I still have half way to go. I just never get around to driving off the freeway to see it.

Chris, when you climbed that steep rocky hill, I was thinking wow- he’s in shape and not breathing hard at all. Then you mentioned people give you a hard time for huffing on your channel. Too funny! Well, no, you do NOT breathe hard, and you do tons of walking on your videos… and you’re in fine respiratory shape.

We visited Calico several years ago. There used to be a lot of cats living there. Guess sadly they are all gone now. :(

Pay 8.00 to enter a “ghost town” full of modern shops to spend on unauthentic items. lol

This place is off the path, I'm surprised they get enough business to operate.
