I love the character Apollo. It says a lot about him that he wanted the man who took the title off him to regain it.

It showed Apollo's championship pedigree!!

The moment when Apollo and rocky race then hug on the beach, the moment an unbreakable bond was created, when rocky lost creed he truly lost a brother, and risked his life for his brother by fighting draco
I had a bit of a slow start with these movies. But when Rocky and Apollo started working together, the series got really good.

its crazy how carl weathers (apollo) never boxed in his life, he looks so natural, his footwork, the speed, natural born athlete for sure, as to this training scene, apart from rocky 4 its the best, its the training scene that most resonates with actual boxer exercises.
Professional football baby!!!!
U r right
Incredible physique
He did box before just not professionally
And to think this was him before the Mandalorian
Hearing of Carl weathers death, the hug scene on the beach has me in tears 😢

Man, this film got even better with age! Apollo was a terrific trainer; Rocky had no style, no real technique, and relied entirely on taking punishment and then dishing to the body. Apollo made him into a BOXER: fast, fluid, tactical, and evasive! And incredibly, he transformed him in just weeks! It speaks to Rocky's talent as a fighter to learn so fast, and the final fight with Clubber really showcases the best of both Rocky's style and Apollo's style: combined, it was unstoppable! It was as much Apollo in that ring as it was Rocky, and a terrific turn for both men, who each found a brother.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, they became brothers but was still rivals but for the betterment of the other…..true friendship. 😎✌🏾👊🏾💯
I agree Rocky 3 is and always will be my favorite Rocky movie!!
Yesssss, you got that right my friend. Absolutely. ❤
Sly loved Carl so much.
Mickey taught Rocky how to fight, Apollo taught him how to box
Mickey taught him how to face his opponent
Apollo taught him how to face his fear
True
EXACTLY!
Mickey gave rocky the strength and Apollo gave rocky the speed.
Apollo was an absolute unit, my favourite character of the franchise. RIP sir
Rest in Peace, Carl Weathers.
I’ve always found myself coming back to this clip for motivation. Thank you for the years of inspiration 💪🏻
They did a major diss to Carl because he should have gotten at least a supportive Oscar nomination for playing that character. He was born to play Creed!!!

"THERE IS NO TOMORROW!"
Apollo and Rocky complete each other perfectly. Apollo is the technique and finesse. Rocky is the heart , grit and determination.
Yep.
Apollo had that too. But not quite as much. Because Rocky is just above the roof in that
But the key is that heart, grit, and determination wasn't enough. He needed to learn Apollo's style.
Apollo lost his title to Rocky , yet he helped Rocky to win his title back . That's what being a true sportsman means .
He wanted the second rematch from rocky. And he wanted it from him as champ. Its all explained at the end.
he wanted to fight the best rocky, thus gave him his own moves to be fair play field and thus ultimately defeat his own shadow @@thecappeningchannel515
We all need an Apollo in our lives.
Rest in Peace, Carl Weathers ❤
Rest in peace Carl Weathers, the fantastic Apollo Creed of Rocky's Saga
I do love as Apollo and Tony came to help Rocky when he needed help after Mickey's passing. It proves as they saw Rocky not as an enemy, but as a great boxer with potential and thought him their way to make him even better.
Part of Mickey's problem as he got older was that he came from the wrong era of boxing. It shows that one of his major fights was on the same night Jack Dempsey got knocked out. This is why Rocky's style was so force and power focused over mobility.
Apollo and Duke recognized that about Rocky, and instead of replacing it completely, they merged it with modern mobility and tactics techniques.
In this age it's now impossible to find friends like them...pffff
@@danielhaire6677 Well that's not entirely true, you can see that in Rocky 2, Mickey trains Rocky's mobility (the chicken part)
@@danielhaire6677he tried to train him but Rocky was always distracted
This movie is 41 years old and yet it just doesn't feel that way at all. These movies have aged so well, even more so than most other movies at the time considered better than it. Maybe because it doesn't have special effects is a reason but the story, the characters, the music and everything stills hits the same way.
I’ve had a thing for 80’s pop culture since middle school. And yet my dad has been wanting me to see the Rocky series since then. Luckily I watched the first four movies on the same week on HBO during Quarantine two years ago. And I have to say as a 30 year old cinephile, this was where the series got really good.
evergreen, baby..
Funny I was born when this movie came out, I'm 41 not only that, 82 was a special when Mr t hit it big and became big, easy to see why he's one of my icons.

Good trip into the otherside! A very sad day!
Apollo taught Rocky how to box.
Better to say he taught Rocky how to box a modern fight. Mickey also taught Rocky how to fight, but his method was based on an old school power-based boxing system that came from the era of legends like Jack Dempsey.
And then didn't use any of those skills against Drago.

When you hear that Rocky theme kick in, you get all the right vibes. That's what was severely missing in the Creed movies.
Agreed but these were half made for a new audience too so they won't have that same feeling we did then.
Creed theme is also pretty epic
Because it was Rockys theme. Creed was a different person for a new generation

I always thought Apollo slowed down just enough to let Rocky win the race and boost his confidence. Apollo’s character stole the show for me.
Stallone is a good athlete. Carl Weathers played in the NFL, a different level of athlete.
Stallone is the one who is on another level, he may not have competed professionally, but he’s still training, still in shape, still strong and fit. Carl weathers isn’t the same anymore. Bruce Lee also didn’t compete, but was arguably better, and more skilled than any martial artist who competed back in his time.
You can tell. Hes a natural. Smooth as silk
Well even in the movie Apollo Creed said to Rocky. You are good at fighting. But I am a good fighter meaning he is more of an athlete
@@MaikiDiMaik meaning he’s got more ego and thinks very highly of himself. That’s what he was saying.

And thus did one of the most heated rivalries in cinematic history blossom into one of the closest & warmest friendships seen on film. Another reason why Rocky 3 was so pivotal & transcendent, it brought that Rocky-Apollo dynamic to a higher level, one that would pave the way for Rocky 4 & beyond. Certainly brought another level of endearment to the whole franchise.

RIP Carl weathers. To me this is the best training montage of all the Rocky movies, just because of the fact that Creed is breaking him, cheering him, pushing him, motivating him, to be the best, to break all the shackles binding him, like a beacon of courage, of strength, of positivity, like a true friend. Having Apollo train Rocky was a great plot device. It prevented the drag of introducing a new character to train Rocky. Apollo was basically plug and play. He was also emotionally distanced enough to push Rocky hard and let Adrian handle the soft talking.
