Good video. Just a couple of errors...Keith McKenzie wasn't coach of Carlton in 1972. John Nicholls was coach as well as playing captain. McKenzie was Nicholl's assistant coach. Also, Corio is pronounced COR-EYE-OH not CORRY-OH
@@slboizedits6589 Thanks for the reply. I am very calm. I like his videos but If something is not correct then it needs to corrected...otherwise people watching this video as well as the person that made it will think that Keith McKenzie actually did coach Carlton in the 1972 GF. And for the mispronunciation, then I am sure Kaleen will now know how to pronounce Corio. You only learn from your mistakes. Thanks again for the reply. Take care.
I remember that match between gold coast and Essendon at marvel known as Etihad at the time. Spent the entire first quarter outside the gate trying to get in just hearing the roar of every goal scored. Finally got in half way through the second quarter.
Great video I was at that game between St. Kilda vs Hawthorn at AFL Park in 1999 the big come back and I was at another game between Hawthorn and St. Kilda another record that won't be broken in 1977 at Princess Park Hawthorn scored the highest behinds kicked of 41 points score was 25 41 191 and I think there is another record that won't be broken in 1977 two players in the same team in the same season kicking over 200 goals. The players are Peter Hudson and Leigh Matthews from Hawthorn
Fun fact. Gold Coast lost so badly because it was the first game the Essendon decided to Juice there players up. James put Essendon on life support for the next decade after.
I was wondering if it was around the time that started happening, I think I had a teacher mention it to the class after the game theorising that the players were on some sort of performance enhancing drugs but none of us really listened to him lol.
@@lexiright5609 it was pretty said. The repercussions effected many people after. I don’t barrack for Essendon but watching from the sidelines during that time it was a 💩 show
Fun fact, 3 or so rounds prior to the 1 point game by St Kilda against geelong, they scored a 2 point game against Geelong again. They also went on a 40 or so game losing streak between 1897-1900
Great video. I just thought I'd mention Richmond's score in the 1972 grand final actually equalled the record for highest score in a grand final and Carlton broke that record the same day. Richmond also became the first team to score 5 goals or more in VFL/AFL grand final. Only Geelong in 2007 and Hawthorn in 2014 have done that since.
I may be a heretic, but I don't believe the 1989 gf was the greatest. Hawthorn led from start to finish and as I watched it live as a neutral, I didn't see the Hawks being headed in that game. Then again, greatest gf is definitely an subjective topic
You forgot the the highest combine scores of a match. ST Kilda vs Melbourne was a combined score of 345. Round 6 1978 at the MCG ST Kilda scored 204 to 141 by Melbourne.
You say "While Buddy Franklin went goaless in his first game against the Swans" while you show footage of Brad Sewell, wearing the number 28, being rundown in a tackle. Surely there was footage of Buddy from that game, or any game against the Swans, you could've used. You mention the score in the 1989 GF but not the tactics used by Geelong in that game which, as Malcolm Blight agrees, cost them a real chance at a premiership. Cats players three outing Hawks players off the ball like: Robert Dipperdomenico, John Platten was flattened off the ball in the first qtr, Gary Ayers was targeted multiple times before he tore his hamstring from the bone. Michael Tuck has his hand stomped on deliberately by a Geelong player which split the webbing between his middle and ring finger to the base of his palm. Darren Pritchard had Bruns and Hocking both try to knock him out off the ball twice on the first qtr. Dermott Brereton was a target from the get go but played out the game. Hawthorn played footy while Geelong played the man and it cost them dearly. Gladly they lost their next three GF appearances by massive margins and looked like the bash artist rabble they truly were. Dipper elbowing Buddha Hocking in the face later I the game was barely payback for the earlier gutless efforts by Hocking his brother and Bruns to take Dipper out of the game. Blight cost the Cats dearly that day with his putrid tactics. If the Cats hadn't gone the biff it may have been a truly wonderful, high scoring shoot out style match which is remembered for its classy football rather than the comeback by a team who had done everything to try and deliberately injure their opponents for the first three qtrs. Blight was a fool....until he went to the Crows
@@footy2rock Theres a whole youtube video dedicated to the free kicks and missed free kicks benefitting the dogs. Hanners had his knee snapped in half and it was play on. The fact the AFL had to come out and apologise should tell you everything you need to know about how rigged that game was. Will forever be the only premiership with an *
Love the rare footage at the end, not the black and white footage, the footage of north singing the song
Like hen's teeth after the 1 point lost to the Pies
All these records are insane! Great video

St. Kilda had the first score in that game in 1899 to lead 1 to 0. Technically then that is the biggest turnaround ever. A 163 point turn around.

The funniest part of the 1 point game is the Saints scored first that game and then barely touched it in the forward half again
Great stuff!
We i live under 15 got 231 to 0 so i think we win the record
