Robbie Gray took a mark and wasn't given a full 30 seconds to take his set shot (i think it was 15 seconds in the end) the umpire called play on and cheated port out of a win that day.
Nice video. This is the second in the series and while all the incidents highlighted are indeed dreadful decisions, the reality is you could probably make several hundred of these with equally bad umpiring blunders.
4:43 its a behind and can be proven with simple maths. the ball is seen directly over the goal post from mutliple angle, meaning if the post was taller, than the ball wouldve hit the post
In the 2009 grand final between St. Kilda and Geelong, Tom Hawkins snapped at goal and was awarded 6 points. Upon replay, the ball can be very clearly seen striking the post and changing direction yet it was called a goal. The ball-up that occurred gave Geelong a second goal giving them 11 extra points meaning that the final margin should've only been a point. Had the call been made correctly, the Cats would've led by a point, and under that sort of pressure, I'm pretty confident Geelong would've had to give and make a mistake. In my opinion, St Kilda should've won that Premiership.
In 2018, when Sydney played Hawthorn at SCG (last round of H&A), a free for deliberate out of bounds was paid against Paul Puopolo, a forward, which is rare. It was clear to everyone except the umpire that he was actually trying to keep the ball in. Didn’t affect the final result though. Btw, who was Geelong player Leigh Colbear? During his playing career his name was always pronounced as it looks, not like the mock French-style pronunciation used by a famous comedian in the USA
My Dad has physio that works for Carlton as a trainer. After the game he asked Caleb Marchbank if the ball had touched him and Marchbank responded by saying “ it touched my hand so clearly in nearly even touched my leg”. So to answer your question it was touched and the goal umpire was right.
We need to talk about all of the non high tackles against Collingwood vs GWS in the 2023 prelim that were *clearly* there, and compare them to all the high calls Nick Daicos got in the 2023 GF for dropping the knees/shoulder
It doesn't matter whether a team gains an advantage from playing on from a free kick. The reason we have the advantage rule after a free kick, is if a team deems that (in this example) a kick inside 50 is more advantageous than taking the freekick. Unfortunately, in the grand final's instance, there was plenty of time after the whistle was blown, and I guarantee that he heard the whistle as he was meters away (especially considering thousands of supporters heard it), just may not have registered to well in his head. Even if the free kick was paid, it would've had to have been a 60 metre kick from Lachie Neale, or an inside 50 against Collingwood's really strong defense. Just putting some words to some Brisbane supporters that think this one call "lost them the game"
Try watching American football. Holding, pass interference and roughing the quarterback are three things that are highly contested every game. I would say there are 30-40 questionable calls every weekend.
The 2016 Grand Final was abhorrent umpiring after half time if you are Swans fan. Worst umpiring ive ever seen was the Anzac Day game when Nathan Buckley mistakenly thought the crowd were booing Scott Pendlebury when he went up to collect the medal. That Leigh Colbert decision was a disgrace. Malceski deliberate rushed behind against the Blues in 2013 - a decision so terrible it's funny.
Mate i hate to be the one to point it out but Nathan Buckley accusing the crowd of booing Pendlebury was not umpiring. The umpire didn’t come out of nowhere and say “Crowd dissent follow me please 🤓“ The umpire actually isn’t relevant here except for the fact that Pendlebury deservedly won the ANZAC Medal. Don’t know what point you were trying to make by bringing that up.
@@musiceditz23 the crowd didn't stop booing because Collingwood won the game and the medal. The fact that Bombers fans stayed back after the game during the presentation showed how outraged they were.
@@melthoidserendipity1332 They were outraged because the team that won deserved it more? That’s pathetic sure the umpire was shit but that game wasn’t actually affected by it the Dons were ass
i agree but the advantage call was probably right until he kicked it into the fifty. should of been high and should of been downfield as he had already kicked it
And I’m a huge AFL fan so I don’t really play favorites, I have no one team I root for, but I thought at the time I watched this years grand final that the Lions should not have had advantage paid on that kick late in the game. Not sure what the umpire that the advantage was.
2:57 - 50m is not against Shane Edwards on the mark, it's against the Richmond player running through the protected zone - this is correct as the player is not involved in the contest and makes no attempt to exit in a timely manner, instead choosing the run directly through in order to man up on Carlton #42 7:38 - It is not up to the umpire to determine advantage, just whether or not the play is continuous. It's just unfortunate that Zac Bailey probably didn't hear the whistle but he keeps playing and elects to kick it inside 50 a couple of seconds after the whistle has gone, so the umpire has to pay advantage, whether or not it is actually advantageous to Brisbane or not.
The Carlton v GWS one was it was the ruling at the time and as a Carlton supporter, i don't like this rule but if you have to enforce such a rule, the umpire was 100% correct. plus there has been legitimate proof that the ball was touched for the Melbourne V Carlton game
you need to remember that sometimes the umpire has deemed it as no prior meaning aslong as they attempt to hit the ball it should be play on. If the umpire deems the player as having prior they have to dispose of it correctly
We like to talk about the advantage in this years granny but Collingwood were absolutley stiffed of a few calls, with the Mason Cox free and the Markov 50m penalty
Don’t bother. No one wants to discuss this as it doesn’t fit their anti Collingwood narrative. Notice that they flat out ignore the comments discussing this point? Yet are quick to talk about the advantage call (that wasn’t even guaranteed to result in a goal anyway)
The AFL pay umpires to make sure certain teams win, this is to attract bigger crowds to the games so the AFL gets more money. It is all about money, not the sport.
4:12 This was an excellent umpiring decision, to be under so much pressure to make the correct call in a crunch final but still get the call right is a rare umpire W. They say there wasn’t sufficient evidence that the kick was a behind when there actually bloody was, I’ve played it back multiple times and if the goalpost were a bit taller then the ball would’ve crashed into it making it a behind.
