    let's be real and call the phenomenon by its real name: starvation. this is not dieting, these idols are forced to starve in order to lose weight. it doesn't affect only them but millions of fans as well. i get so sad when i see thousands of videos of people crying themselves to sleep or spending their lives not eating and getting weaker and weaker chasing the idea of becoming skinny. it will take a long time to achieve, but healthy diets are so important as well as someone's own mental health. do not compare your body to someone other's.

      It's a real waste to obsess over a body. A body needs to get you places and keep you alive and able to be happy and enjoy your life. Not something miserable that is pretty to look at. (Not saying everyone who is considered body goals is miserable, but if you have to starve and exercise 4 hours that certainly is)

      I really hate it when some people normalized starvation in order to achieve their ideal body while lots of people out there being starve without any options especially those who lived in poverty. I know so well being starve, not eating for several days while trying to maintain energy in our body is ABSOLUTELY torturous. It wasn't even an option, it was something that I had to go through for years. Like, I will never understand why they don't do that. I mean, they place such a heavy emphasis on idols staying fit and healthy yet they don't even seem to have dieticians or nutritionists that can help them with that.
      Like, singing and dancing at the same time for a long period requires a lot of strength, energy & stamina but instead of companies encouraging their idols to keep fit in a healthy way & allowing them to have muscles, they must be as slim as possible.

    I've dropped about 20 lbs (9k) in about 2 years. Changing the diet, walking more and dropping sodas and my doctor was thrilled. No "sudden" weight loss, but steady improvement is so much better. For dancers, and athletes, your body should be heavy, muscle is heavier than fat, so weight isn't a reliable accurate way to judge health. Now that my weight is down and I do more walking and workouts, my weight is going up, but I'm in better shape. Weight isn't the only factor.

    • @Just999Me
      @Just999Me ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Muscle is more dense but does not necessarily weigh more than fat. It just takes up less space and helps speed up your metabolism the more you develop them. Overall it is more important to incorporate exercise that helps to build muscle while also having a proper diet (as nutritious and less caloric dense foods as possible) that supplements nutrition for exercise but also encourages weight loss of fat overall. Which is more important than just losing weight (which means you can also lose important muscle weight not only fat). Great job on the proper weight loss.

    • @ashley_smith
      @ashley_smith ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Muscle is more dense than fat, but does not weigh more. A pound of muscle is equal to a pound of fat. A pound is equal to a pound. It's just like the old math question of which is heavier, a pound of bricks or a pound of feathers? A pound is still a pound. It will take a lot of feathers to equal a pound, and not many bricks to equal a pound, but a pound is still a pound.

    In my perspective, 4 hours of exercise daily is not healthy. It's definitely NOT average. I can understand if your goals are to look a certain way for an idol career, but average people living their lives as non-idols should NEVER. NEVER try to replicate this diet and goal without the supervision of a VERY experienced and highly esteemed professional trainer. It's just not the norm to have this type of physique. Average non-TV, non-celeb people should always consider this before attempting a diet or physique change.

    • @jellyrolly
      @jellyrolly ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Well you’re an athlete so it makes sense. For those who work in the office 9-5 should not work 4 hrs a day since they usually take anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half to get to work, make breakfast and dinner (at least 30 min for each). Working out 4 hours will make regular workers overly fatigued.

    • @NaN-wx9ss
      @NaN-wx9ss ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think that's subjective. Four hours of exercise could be unhealthy if- 1) the person does not eat enough food to fuel their body and is overly restrictive, or 2) if they are pushing themselves too much and injuring their body or are unable to do basic movement for the rest of the day. As an athlete or someone training for a sport, it doesn't seem to be much to me. There are also some people who don't play sports that work-out this much but that's because it's at their level like a long distance runner. I get your point though but I don't think the time matters since intensity could vary by a lot. What I think matters more is balance. If someone wants to exercise that much, they have to eat more obviously and may need to sleep more as well. That's the main issue with it.

    • @xXhearttbreakerXx
      @xXhearttbreakerXx ปีที่แล้ว +5

      4 Hours of exercise may not be average, but ultimately pretty healthy. Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean heavy workout. Pilates, yoga, light stretching is very beneficial for the body and overall health. And actually, everyone should do some strength exercises regularly. And you can really improve your productivity when you integrate exercising into your day. Ever since I started with a morning routine/stretch, it’s so much easier to get up and be fit in the morning. Then again, I the evening I do a stretch to relax my muscles and therefore I will fall asleep faster (also because my body just knows after this routine, it’s time to sleep). For lunch break, I always try to walk some, even when I just walk around without any goal. That’s also a good way to get some time for yourself, listen to music and think about stuff. Then if you have a sports hobby where you might even meet with friends regularly, that’s another plus. So all in all, it’s definitely possibly to include four hours of exercise into a daily routine. And again, exercise doesn’t mean to do a heavy workout. You just have to get moving. Also, ever since I adapted this routine I don’t have back pain anymore

    • @BELIEVER78989

    • @alexia3552
      @alexia3552 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Abruptly cutting to working out 4 hours a day would be a big shift for your body, it's a good idea to involve a doctor or trainer if you're working up to that. It's not unhealthy to move a lot every day, farmers, athletes, landscapers, etc, do it all the time. It's better for you than sitting all day. The real question is are you straining your body, are you straining tendons or muscles. And, alongside that, for your mental health you don't want to sacrifice 1/4 of your waking hours to exercise to "get skinny so I'm good enough and worth existing". That hurts so deeply, and you miss out on socialization time and having fun and doing anything but punishing yourself.

  • @HM-cq2rv

    I think an issue too is that instead of having kpop trainees lose weight in a moderate calorie deficit, they are often forced to eat at an extreme deficit, like less than a baby would need to eat. Teens/kids who are trainees shouldn’t restrict calories at all, but if they absolutely have to it would be better to have a much more moderate deficit. I think this completely messes up their metabolism to the point where any time they eat normally, even if it’s a “normal” amount of food, they will gain weight. So they are pretty much in a cycle of gaining weight/binging and then taking extreme lengths to lose weight quickly for an appearance or come back, and rarely do idols have an actually consistently healthy routine. I feel like this is especially horrible in wealthy companies that could afford the best dieticians and personal trainers to help their trainees.

      @gwenbar8144 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      This is what I don't understand, at this point agencies know that extreme diets are not a good way to loose weight. It is detrimental to your health and it doesn't work in a long run, idols will get fat easily by doing this isntead of loosing weight. Moreover they will be in hiatus because of health issues, as it is the case for a lot of idols today. so I really can't understand why they continue to force idols to do it.

We can't change it even if we want because it is based on the companies but let's try change it as much as we can by protesting online against this and let kpop idols do whatever they want and staying healthy.
    Let's not support this kind of starvation by saying now the idols became happier after losing weight they might be happy but this is dangerous.

I totally forgive myself if I eat something outside of that meal because traditionally I ate three meals a day on a sedentary lifestyle. Most of the "recovered" or "balanced" Idols are still far from that.
    First, a diet that is low in calories and carbs is definetly harmful for a kpop idol's lifestyle which requires a lot of energy expendature. I read Joy's new "Healthy" diet which is *still* not healthy. She eats mainly vegetables to fill herself up and goes low fat and low carbs, which yea, probably supress her appetite, but she still undereats, the same as many other idols.
    Second - they're still at a very low bodyweight, and low BMI. Yeah, BMI isn't a good measurement tool for people with much muscle, but when someone is at such low BMI, like most Kpop Idols, it definetly means that it's not healthy. No chance that ALL idols have "long legs and high metabolism" and are that skinny AND healthy.
    I'm tired of the lies and covering up the actual truth.
    A kpop Idol that eats the amount that a SEDENTARY TODDLER needs is NOT healthy.
    Even if it's more food that protein shake a day.

    Ladies- losing too much weight can royally eff up your hormonal balance. It goes far beyond losing one's menstrual cycle. Your hair can thin and fall out, you can experience intense bone and joint pain, memory loss, depression, and more. Additionally, losing too much weight breaks down the collagen in your skin- including your face. You may be able to pull it off in your early-mid 20's- but once you start hitting the later 20s and beyond that lack of collagen will age you significantly.

Both diet and sleep are very important. Agencies, record labels and managers abusing their talent is not unique to Korea that's for sure. Fans are always going to have unrealistic expectations. The agencies should be policed more to ensure they are actually caring for and protecting their talent.

    I went from 80 kg to 58 kg & it took me 1.5 years (18 months) 😭 I'm still trying to lose more. My goal is to reach 54-52 kgs after which I'll stop being on a calorie deficit (My height is 154 cm btw). I'll be real with you. It has been such a hard journey.
    For me, there was one thing I always kept in mind. I wanted to change my lifestyle to a healthier one instead of ruining my relationship with food, but also lose weight in the process. I ate as much healthy food as I could throughout the week by cooking at home. I would also excercise regularly for at least 40 minutes (alternating between cardio & strength). However, I didn't deprive myself of "junk food" or higher calorie foods & would indulge from time to time.
    I knew that my social life will be affected if I get too strict about what I can or cannot eat. When I went out with friends, I'd usually opt for a salads & juices. However, for instances like parties, official events or when I had lunch/dinner with friends or family during special events, I'd go and eat whatever they had to offer. First of all, if someone makes food for you or organizes an event, I feel like it's so disrespectful to turn down the food they serve (unless you have restrictions due to health issues or don't eat certain things due to religious or ethical reasons, which is understandable). These are the main factors that made me adamant on not going overboard.
    I've realised that it's actually a very hard thing to commit to. I felt like giving up so many times when I wouldn't see the scale move. The temptation to just starve myself was intense, but I knew that it's an addictive path; once I get into that cycle, getting out would be very hard.
    When you are on your weight loss journey, the initial weight you lose is very fast, but after the initial 1-2 months, progress becomes painfully slow. That's when the urge to start starving kicks in. You want the same results you saw in the first month. However, it's natural for weight loss to slow down because the initial loss is usually water weight.
    You CAN lose weight without going overboard. It is possible, but it just takes a lot of time, patience & consistency. Aim for 1.5-2kg per month, that's the healthiest. Honestly, I lost 3 kgs in the initial 1.5 months of my journey & after that, although I target 1.5-2kg, I end up losing a maximum of 1 kg each month 😂 It's because I have my lazy days or days when I let lose & you know what?? I don't feel guilty about it at all. A girl deserves to have fun haha
    Personally, I didn't consult any dietician or join a gym. I researched and did things on my own. If anyone wants to know about my diet & excercise routine in detail then please free feel to reply to this & ask questions. I'd be more than happy to help.
    Remember: You can do it! Every body type is different so your journey will look different. Just stick to it. If you have a week or month where you didn't follow your routine, then don't punish yourself for it. Just get back on track & start again. It's a process that involves learning, fumbling & getting back up again. However, an overall healthy lifestyle will not only physically, but mentally as well. Focus on that. Discipline can go hand in hand with fun. Forming a new habit takes time. Be kind to yourself.

    The thing about Jimin is that so many people bashed him for his appearance, and then how can it be a surprise he's going on extreme diets. I'm sure it's similar for the other idols.
    These idols may be better now, but I'd be hesitant to believe they are not dieting extremely from time to time. For his comeback Jimin was dieting again, he said so himself. He didn't say what he's eating but he had dropped a lot of weight.
    I wish people would stop commenting on other people's bodies in general, but especially for idols. If you body shame them, it's easier for them to believe it because seeing yourself on screen all the time can drive you crazy and you notice every imperfection. Then idols that are skinny say they're fat and the kids watching them learn that behaviour too. Please be kind to others, it does come back around.

    Frankly I think a large part of this stems from the way idols are forced UNrealistically to try and fit into so called "Ideal Korean Cultural Beauty Standards" which often lean heavily towards *thin, *skinny, *Pale, *Narrow..etc
    These kpop companies literally use starvation along with plastic surgeries as a process to try and force chisel down Idols to fit those cultural beauty standards..
    All these idols that are suddenly having bad health problems is the fallout from this practice.

    I mean ...being on a diet alone isn't good for your health, but idols also need to practice their dance choreographies which is physically exhausting, especially if you don't have the energy food would normally give you.

    I used to be the biggest out of all my siblings and it made me depressed so I wouldn't eat or eat less then 500 calories a day for days to weeks. I did end up losing about 80lbs but was still hot happy and wanted to lose more.i did have less energy but it wasn't extreme. Then I gained all the wait plus more back when I went to college and after I dropped out I became stressed that I gained it all back so I went back to what I did before and it took a couple years but I lost a little over 100lbs and was very malnourished and just went to work then sleep but I still wasn't happy and wanted to loose about 10 more pounds which would be considered the lower number of the "normal mbi weight"of someone my height. Around this time I figured barely eating wasn't helping and stated to exercise which helped but wasn't getting the body I wanted so I had to put more protein in what I ate and slowly I started to gain muscle but everytime my legs got bigger I had to stop eating. I didn't want to go over a certain size cause I thought I would just keep going until I was at my highest weight again. But now I do struggle some times but if I really want to eat or binge eat I don't really care if I gain a little weight I'm more confident now that I'm what works for me in a healthy way to get to a decent weight for myself and thank God I didn't really get any heath problems from it other then digestive issues

    To be honest... Fasting is so healthy! I think if they do these for just 10 days it's actually very beneficial to their health! However... yes! The pressure in Korea is very toxic! They shouldn't feel so much pressure!

    I remember how little I ate and how hard i excercised to become 45kg... physically I felt horrible. I felt weak and cold all the time, I remember I even became insecure of my thigh gap when previously i was insecure of my thick thighs.. how fast things had changed. I don't regret gaining weight to become more healthier at al! I am now 54-55kg, and my height is 166cm
