  • Here is video of Kathy's successful bail-in skill in Tallahassee SCUBA instructor Gabrielle's open water class. People often wonder why we would make students jump in the water without any gear on then assemble it under water. The bail-in drill encourages problem solving under stressful circumstances in SCUBA. When people are able to stay calm, it helps them better manage any problems in the diving environment. This is a required skill with SCUBA Educators International (SEI), formerly YMCA.

I like she did, on her bail in. Even where she had to swim down to get one of the other flippers.

    Hi Gabrielle,
I noticed you often talk to your students underwater. This seems pretty hard to do while your mouth is full with a regulator.
Could you do a video where you perhaps demonstrate this skill, maybe outside of water so we hear you better, with the regulator, useful phrases maybe? It would be a nice skill to learn!

Yes, it is very unusual to speak underwater with a regulator in your mouth! I have been doing so for a long time, and students usually understand me and often say it helps them.

I agree its an unusual skill.
I like the idea of the above commenter about doing a video about this, that would be very cool! Like it's nice to learn this for communication underwater!
If you have time it would be nice, maybe have a student participate.
