Question how are the gpu thermals without the fans at the bottom of the case ?? I’m late to this vid and you might not be able to answer but I’m curious
@@DoNotSayThree The Torrent series is designed not to need an exhaust fan, maybe a bit from the PSU at high load (when you probably don't want a 0rpm mode on).
I like the new Fractal Torrent Nano, but I just built a new LIan Li Air Mini 2 weeks ago. Very happy with that build. However I noticed I'm becoming more like you, Nick. I have 3 other cases in storage now and running out of space, plus the wife says she will skin me alive if I buy any more cases. Love your videos. I wake up here in the U.S. every morning looking to see if you posted any new videos. And most mornings I am rewarded with new and interesting reviews. High 5 !!!
One of the draws to be about the Torrent is those enormous fans, so when you only have one of them or in this case you swap them out to install an AIO, a lot of the benefit of the case seems to be lost to me. I could be wrong though. I ordered a Torrent Compact to see what kind of thermals I can get with those two enormous fans--fingers crossed!
Love the case. Just ordered it in white. But, as beautiful as it is, it annoys me that Fractal Design is still using loose front panel connectors when the likes of NZXT and Cooler Master do the right thing and combine them as one plug.
I just ordered the white as well! had to get a different motherboard to switch my parts over to though, and i finally splurged and got my first SSD lol. got a gen 4 sabrent rocket. should be insane difference in speed compared to a literally 10 year old hdd
Thanks for actually using the front 120/140mm fan brackets Nick, only video I've seen that does this. If you haven't torn this down yet, I would be interested to see if you have a similar experience to me with your FE card thermals, I found that having a fan placed directly below my 3070FE actually increased the temps on the GPU compared to no fans, I think the fans on the FE coolers work best when there's >10mm air pocket in front of them, or they're unusually susceptible to turbulence. On my NR200P, I had to mount my bottom intake fans under the case and replaced the stock feet with taller ones in order to avoid this. Personally I have been toying with the idea of moving my build over to the Meshify C Mini for the MATX support further down the line, considering how close the torrent nano is in terms of size to that (it's within 1cm in each direction iirc), it seems like it has none of the benefits of going ITX - even if it is really pretty
try to vertical mount FE cards on itx builds. blow air from beneath and suck it out on top. on vertical builds you have so much more space for good airflow if you use cases which only allow vertical airflow as with the jonsplus i100. Use good fans as well like thermaltake toughfan 12/14. My Jonsplus build is super quiet and has an RTX3080FE to fit. Undervolted im on 71celsius with high load on Warzone/Pubg with 120-150FPS on QHD. @@tinypatches6939 Not entirely sure what you're getting at here tbh. Are you saying replace the case with something that is sandwich layout or similar? @@AxR558 sorry my answer was a little bit out of place. I just meant when you consider to move your build over to another case and you want good temps in an itx build the look out for cases which allows you to vertical mount gpu's. because then you really have ITX benefits = small build and good temps with low noise. My answer wasn't even considering using the torrent nano. You was talking bout FE Cards and high temps and that's almost always because of the mounting position of those cards. if you think about it logically you have one of those two gpu fans throwing hot air under it self and there there is only little way to let it escape. with vertical mounts its way much easier to get rid of the hot air. I have build 6 different PC's all with FE Cards by this time and my smaller itx build with vertical mount has the best temps of all. And iam talking about ITX and Big Tower builds, no matter what the vertical mount had the best temps. Excuse my english, I hope you understand my point of view. Ah, yeah absolutely get what you mean and totally agree - really anything that moves the hot exhaust away from the back of the card has a major benefit to temps. I'm seriously tempted to start case shopping now :D

I'm currently running a NR200 dual 240mm custom loop and will likely build my next PC (in a few years time) in something like this. Although I haven't had any major issues with water-cooling I have had some close calls and general PC weirdness and the idea of draining a loop and removing everything to problem solve makes me want to just go back to air-cooling. I understand that ITX doesn't equal SFF, but this definitely looks like an MATX case that has ditched the MATX compatibility to allow for a standard PSU to be used with an ITX only motherboard tray. Perhaps they wanted the ITX label to be able to charge the ITX tax. That aside, Fractal did a good job in maintaining the design language for the front grill on this smaller case.
Agree with all of this and Fractal are known for terrible pricing (at least in Australia) so my cynical mind thinks that they've lopped 1 pcie slot off to sell it as a "premium" ITX case. They could have made it an inch taller to support mATX...reminds me of the Phanteks Evolv ITX vs the mATX model, which was barely bigger.
Can't help but agree, with all the sacrifices you're making buying an ITX MOBO it really has to be taking advantage of it's small size to make sense. Still, nice to have an ITX case with a focus on air-cooling, don't see too many of those on the market.
This one lands on a weird spot, reminds of old itx cases that werent that small. The compact strikes a good balance of size and component compatibility.
Just imagine filling this thing with a Noctua D15 and a slim 240mm radiator and pump/res for the GPU. Hybrid air/water system and completely full of components. It would honestly be peak system
I love the look but the limitations on GPU / fan support is frustrating considering it’s not even that small. I would be very interested in seeing a custom loop in here if the smaller gpu water block allows for a 3090 and double radiator setup. (Haven’t done the maths on whether that’s possible though.)
Fractal Torrent is a very good airflow case, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to do a custom loop in this... Go for a Lian Li O11 or Hyte Y60 if you want custom water cooling.
I love this case but I sure wish they would have included support for micro ATX. It looks like there is plenty of room and maybe it would work with some light modding.
I appreciate the clear details and better understanding of the actual size of the Torrent Nano 'not the compact' But now I have to start looking for an ITX mobo because the one I bought is too big
Just got this case and glad I did. My cpu has a very small profile heatsink/fan that I used for the Core 500. However, I had to upgrade because that case couldn't fit my new XFX RX 7650 XT (MERC). Fits like a glove in this one. Despite the small fan, temps are VERY cool in this case.
Tricky product this one. Looks properly cool, like that it accepts a ATX PSU. Limitations on GPU support when using an AIO seem a shame though, but a fundamental result of that slightly unconventional layout…
Even though for whatever reason Fractal just stopped production of this case after 6 months or so and never resupplied inventory. I was the perfect no compromise case for either air or liquid cooling. And the perfect size especially looking at the "SFF Cases" that have come out the past 6-9 months. Would be nice to see an update with 7950X-3D / 7900XTX or 4090
Honestly after having a Louqe Ghost S1. This would be the ideal size because I can't deal with CPU heat. Keeping my Ryzen 3900 cool in the Ghost Louqe is hard and it hovers over 45 degree C. Because of that it throttles and I also need more space so I guess this is the one to go with. I've had 2 AIO failures and want to go with Air cooling now. With this it would be possible.
I was almost tempted to buy this. I really wanted something between this and the full size. Thankfully they made a compact version too. Still... I'd like to do a build in this since I really like these smaller cases.
Same here, I want to build a small form factor when i saw these type of cases but I also want a bigger case like o11d evo :) What case you decided on btw ?
When I looked at cases for my gaming PC build, several cases I liked were literally 2cm too short fro a 330mm graphics card since I have a radiator for CPU cooling as that would be placed in the front. I looked at the Torrent Compact, and it's the same thing all over again, except maye 3-4cm too short :P But quite happy with the Core V21 though. Having the PSU in the top is great. They used to be there are from now on, they should be there for most cases as it's so easy to change things later and for installing, and you can use direct air from from the bottom! More great music! \o/
I hope you did something good with that fan you took out, it is the star of the case. It moves almost 150cfm and I can't even find another fan that compares. Most smaller fans don't add up to that much airflow in a double stack, nor do they create the perfectly aligned tunnel that is set up by default in this case.
Definitely not SFF but if you want to go ITX and not bother with cable management, this one is hard to beat. It also comes with solid panels now. In my case (ah!), I won't have a view of the sides, only the front, so no need for tempered glass panels.
What for? The original fractal torrent has the best air cooling you can get, without a mesh side panel. If you want an open air case, just get an actual open air case my dude.
Man the dan and the torrent cases look amazing but the prices, coolermaster released the best itx case at a great price so im happy to cram what i can into it.
I feel fractal need to do a bit of work on the irx version. If it's not sff, then make or longer, add 280mm support with 330mm gpu clearance. I'd go the lian Li case over this given its 280mm aio support.
Little on the big side but looks pretty good due to that extra width it makes it work out ok with the larger (For itx only) size. Honestly since the look and CPU clearance lends itself to it I probably wouldn't use this with water cooling: the ideal use is that front 180mm fan and a beefy noctua NH-D15 or something similarly big. So if you do any revisits on this I'd kindly request some air temps instead with that 180mm default fan.
Just built in this rig im really digging the fact i can plug in the 24pin and PCIe cables from the top down i zip tie to the 180m fan and bottom fo case for PCIe and it makes for a clean build. The included brackets for installing ²x 140m fans in front. But the paint is really susceptible to scratches made mistake of tilting it on my wall at a angle and it scratched the black paint on the plastic not a dig on case as it's beautiful more a lesson put foam agaisnt wall if needing to angle a case against it 🤣
I've been thinking about this for an (air cooled) i9 13900k / 4070 combo -- but itx is a new thing for me so am concerned about cooling. Should I be worried or should I just go for it?
I think that if it was an mtax case would have been really great, at least looks like it has the space for it (with some redesign of course), but I might be wrong
I just built my first pc in a lancool mesh 2. It seems ridiculously large and my mATX board only takes up a fraction of the interior. Thinking the torrent nano might be a good alternative. Just tricky finding a decent ddr4 itx z690 or b660 right now.
I wonder if using TG on the back panel is somehow cheaper because it makes no sense to me. Why would anyone want glass on the back when we want to hide things?
What's the point with bottom fans when there is literally 3 fans on the gpu close to the bottom? The bottom fans are so the cabinet itself gets cool air from the bottom so it can give the gpu fans cool air. So I guess it's actually just not needed. It's pure science. Heat moves to cold area. So all you have to do, is make sure your pc have overpressure to avoid dust coming in, and then remove the hot air. Lets say you didnt need the overpressure, you could just as well only have exhaust fans. But that works both ways. If the air in to create overpressure have plenty of space to get out, you don't need exhaust fans either. This case here, will give the gpu the cool air from the bottom. This case will also create overpressure with the massive fan at the front, and this case will also remove the hot air. So in all honesty, and please correct me if I am wrong (wrong as in this is actually tested and not just your opinion), but I believe that this case only needs ONE fan in front and that's it. The gpu has dedicated coolers, and so has the cpu. The cpu cooler has one function: Remove heat from the cpu. Where that heat is being placed, doesn't matter. If it's being moved to a water cooling radiator, or being moved just another place in the cabinet, doesnt matter. The main point is to move the heat away from the cpu. And what is doing that? The heat sink and the cpu fan. The water cooling radiator isnt removing the heat from the cpu. It's cooling down the water, and the heat that is being cooled down, is being blown back into the cabinet, which then needs to be removed with exhaust fans because the radiator is being cooled by front fans, so the airflow is more limited. Hence why I think watercooling is massive overrated. Only reason I would like water cooling, is if I could cool down both gpu and cpu with the same radiator and the radiator placed at the bottom. The hot air in the cabinet will then be moved by fans.
I agree the original torrent was way to big and this case is nice but it's kind of in no man's land with size. I would have preferred them to make an ATX Mid size version that can hold everything (even that Strix card).
if Noctua do a 180mm fan, I would love to put one at the front. I wish there was a vented top panel i could buy so I could have the hot air from the PSU vent out the case and not into the pc.
if you're still wondering - the meshilcious is about half the volume of this case. And it does well with large graphics cards and 280mm rads, so it can handle high end components easily. Some build quirks with it, but if space is a premium I'd go with the meshilcious.
great content and makes me sooo jealous haha! How did you actually managed this to fit the GPU though? Clearance for GPU is 335mm for the case. 3080ti foundation is 285mm which only leaves you with 50mm for the radiator and fans in front! The radiator you are using is 60mm, no? I have an ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (299mm) and bought same MB which no air cooler fan really fits due to height of the VRM heatsink on MB. I really want this case but I don't know if any water cooler would actually fit...
It reminds me of my Bitfenix Prodigy. Too big for an ITX. I have regretted it because it’s always difficult to upgrade parts and cost more. Just buy a small ATX case.
Man, so, so close to perfect. Like the NR200 could unofficially take a MATX mobo and a dual slot card. But they borked the ATX PSU out of box compatibility.
as good looking as this is, its a bit of an in between for me as well, too small for my own personal use and too big if i want to go itx, but dang its great looking, especially pairing it with the lian li fans ! keep the beautiful cinematic tings coming !!
would of been nice to see thermals with that white strix card without them fans under it.as i would think would create too much turbulence. Might get better thermals with a aftermarket cooler/strix and no case fans under it.

Question how are the gpu thermals without the fans at the bottom of the case ?? I’m late to this vid and you might not be able to answer but I’m curious
Temps not ideal, not because of exhaust, but because you pushing hot air from rad into the chassis .
Fractal is killing it with their latest cases. Love it. Especially going back to the top placement of the PSU for easy to reach cable management.
Heard from a classified source: Best to have flexible power supply cables
Not just that but also it acts like an exhaust fan which is smart.

Hell yeah awesome video fams, loved the original Fractal Torrent and the nano is no exception
Can you use front fans as exhaust? (bottom intake, front and back exhaust)?
Can't lie, this case and built is gorgeous! Might change my NR200P to this soon.
Even though for whatever reason Fractal just stopped production of this case after 6 months or so and never resupplied inventory. I was the perfect no compromise case for either air or liquid cooling. And the perfect size especially looking at the "SFF Cases" that have come out the past 6-9 months. Would be nice to see an update with 7950X-3D / 7900XTX or 4090
Hmmm...this launches JUST as I'm looking at the Phanteks P200A.
This case is giving me serious pause. I like it. A LOT.
Holy this crept up on me. Wish I waited a little bit before building my PC, this would’ve been nice!
Very Interesting Case 🤩 Thank you for Review 😊💙
Damn i was in mid yawn when nick revealed the case and i stopped and zoomed in
Edit: after watching it looks hella good
That case lookin heat!!🔥🔥
question? are bottom fans necessary when GPU is that close to bottom intake, I am a novice sorry.
Nope. It's for demonstration only. If I didn't do it people would be mad
Definitely not SFF but if you want to go ITX and not bother with cable management, this one is hard to beat. It also comes with solid panels now. In my case (ah!), I won't have a view of the sides, only the front, so no need for tempered glass panels.
That cable management made me chuckle :D
I wish more companies did mesh side panels instead of glass
What for? The original fractal torrent has the best air cooling you can get, without a mesh side panel. If you want an open air case, just get an actual open air case my dude.
Been looking for an ITX case to do a living room gaming PC/HTPC and I might have found which one I'm going to use. Great review guys!
Man the dan and the torrent cases look amazing but the prices, coolermaster released the best itx case at a great price so im happy to cram what i can into it.
Would you recommend leaving the one 180 mm fan or using two 140mm fans in the front. Thank you
this case will be my next build if I can find the parts :D
Looks cool af ngl. Hopefully this will add some spice to the pc market. Tired af of seeing nzxt h510s and lianli o11s.
Amen!
Im looking into building a new pc. Was wondering if youd recommend the fractal nano or the lian li air mini?
always preferred air cooling - thought about this case for the 4090; would it work?
So is this a high airflow case for overclocking? Thats the sense I am getting. It looks great even tho it’s larger than SFF.
But the paint is really susceptible to scratches made mistake of tilting it on my wall at a angle and it scratched the black paint on the plastic not a dig on case as it's beautiful more a lesson put foam agaisnt wall if needing to angle a case against it 🤣
I just wish they'd had a mesh option on least one side of the case that would be mesh.
As mentioned in the video, with the stock fan max GPU length is 335mm.
I've been thinking about this for an (air cooled) i9 13900k / 4070 combo -- but itx is a new thing for me so am concerned about cooling. Should I be worried or should I just go for it?
just bought this case, agree with its easiness installation, can build pc with one hand in this case...
Wish it had a fourth expansion slot for an mATX mobo.
I'm liking this Nano and the Compact. Will you be also reviewing the Compact? 😁
I'll be building in the compact. There are lots of Compact review out already.
@@GearSeekers Awesome!!! I saw the videos from others but I'm still waiting on your review 😀
Fractal: Let's release this cute little case.
RTX4090: Look at me, I am the case now.
Why would anyone want glass on the back when we want to hide things?
ngl i was waiting for the cable routing management tryna take notes but nope xD
Ufffff I love it, finally I can use massive noctua Air cooler
Nice vid!
So tempted to change over to this case but I'm really happy with the meshify mini c, still.. tempted
is the h510m/h610m hdv considered as dtx?
I agree the original torrent was way to big and this case is nice but it's kind of in no man's land with size. I would have preferred them to make an ATX Mid size version that can hold everything (even that Strix card).
It seems that too much dust will enter the case through those big holes on rear side.
this is supposed to be a high positive pressure case, nothing should be pulled in anywhere but from the front
if Noctua do a 180mm fan, I would love to put one at the front. I wish there was a vented top panel i could buy so I could have the hot air from the PSU vent out the case and not into the pc.
A shame it's such a hassle to remove the 180 front fan. Cause I'd love to have it all black without tinted glass except one RGB fan.
I like that big fan at the front.
peel?
Are the 2 fans on the bottom 120mm or 140mm?
Which is better this fractal case or ssupd Meshilicious? I’m game dev and need a good looking small case for my desk.
if you're still wondering - the meshilcious is about half the volume of this case. And it does well with large graphics cards and 280mm rads, so it can handle high end components easily. Some build quirks with it, but if space is a premium I'd go with the meshilcious.
Finally a rival of h210
great content and makes me sooo jealous haha!
Lol love the cable management
Agree... this should have been an mATX case.
Looks awesome. But cant fit the same hardware that's in my nr200 for a case that's so big.
I died a little inside when he didn't show the sticker peel
If only NZXT can find a way to implement Fractal's front panel design onto their H210 itx case, it would be a winner.
Will this support Micro ATX? I cant really find confirmation one way or the other
Which gpu are you using?
Ayyyy this case looks wise is 🔥
It's hilarious that this has better Gpu supports than the compact version.
I did my new build in this case. Asus dtx mobo, 5800x, 3070ti, rm850x PSU, and plenty of fans lol
Will I be able to squeeze w 3080 suprim x in this case it's an extra 1mm long
Didn't consider a air cooled system build?
would of been nice to see thermals with that white strix card without them fans under it.as i would think would create too much turbulence. Might get better thermals with a aftermarket cooler/strix and no case fans under it.
if we use front bracket, can we use the SUPRIM X gpu ? it has 336 mm, 1 mm more than the maximum 335mm gpu clearance
