    I can't describe how much I loved this vidjeo.
    I've had my 1400 for 5 years and it's the best bike I'VE ever ridden. With the Bride and a weeks worth of luggage, 6gear acceleration is still stupid quick. On the weekends with the boys in the twisties, no problem keeping up with thier R1s, ZX10, GSX-Rs, CBR1000s. The boys on Speed Triples, Brutales, Tuonos, S1000rrs and 1098s, well lets just say I never have to wait for my coffee to be made. 🤣🤣
    Ride safe Y'all.

    The 1400 also wins in the comfy seat department. When i had one back in about 2003 it really was the dogs bollocks, people used to look at the 1400 badge and go that's bigger than my car. The only down side was watching the fuel gauge getting empty when you were having some fun, i always tried to get into top gear as soon as possible. It would pull away from 30mph in top gear very easily i'd quite happily have another one tomorrow.

    That's correct, torque also talks!!! HP is BORING!!! I mean it's of course a necessary number, but IMO, that's ALL it is. Torque, on the other hand, is what REAL street and daily riders want. Lol. WTF am I gonna do with a 200+hp bike on my way to work??? Or on my weekend fookery??? Give me a naked bike that wheelies every time I pull the throttle from 1st to 4th and I'm in heaven.

    • @TheCodexNecro
      @TheCodexNecro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fully agree. It was my main decision for opting for the big upright naked. Bags of real world torque, can accelerate way past a ton in mere seconds, plus it's not made of plastic.

    You can rev the R1 up to 11k prm and slip the clutch until the rpms match the road speed and use the torque multiplication from that to give you more mechanical advantage and therefore greater acceleration. Admittedly that takes significantly more skill to do as any error would lead to a bog or wheelie slowing you down. Bikes with more torque tend to be harder to stall and therefore launch. All things considered if wheelying is the factor that limits acceleration the bike with the longer wheelbase and or more forward biased centre of gravity should win.

    • @synkuk
      @synkuk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could see from the vid the wheelie control was already kicking in on the R1... the 14 would literally always win .. longer , heavier .. WAY more torque lower down ... just horses for courses .. nothing more .. dont get outta shape about it .. sam as both are shit offroad :D:D

    Completely understand what your saying.. I own a 2018 aprilia tuono v4 factory and a 2000 Honda sp1 and I know the aprilia is miles faster and more powerful but yet I do identical times at the drag strip lol.. the sp1 I just go full throttle but tuono I have to manage the power and wheelies.. I wasn't surprised at all of your results I've ridden both bikes in your video and I found the r1 lacking in torque below 8k especially compared to my aprilia.. don't get me wrong still love the r1 but torque is where it's at on the road ;)

    No replacement for displacement. Had GSX1400, it's a loco on steroids. Thinking about buyin' one again, to second my current Z900 in the garage, and use it as a "power/distance-"sporty_ish"-cruiser". MY 2005-2006 for less than 1/2 of the price of "modern retro" such as Speed Twin, Z900RS etc., with around 30-40k on speedo (which is no hassle for that engine). But would tune it up - replace springs, shocks, exhaust system, brakes (completely), and do a little retro bodywork to make it more comfortable on long highway trips (something like the first 1984 Kawa Ninja, but with circular headlight ;-))

    I think there is also weight at play.. for example a stretched swingarm and the ability to actually use some of that avalable power would leave the 14 behind. So torque may not be the key contribution to this race.. more gearing, weight and geometry. But thats my opinion

    • @6tdegrees
      @6tdegrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same could be said for the 14 if you applied the same modification.

    • @kyleellis3537
      @kyleellis3537 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@6tdegrees i agree but stock for stock you can use alot more potential power from the 14. Where as the 1000 can't use any until it can maintain traction or keep the front down. The torque Is useful but not at all what slows down the 1000. Maybe in a high gear roll. But with a first gear that can do 100mph or 160kph in first and still easily lift the front off the line standing starts, torque doesnt seem to be the issue. But as i said this is just my opinion. GSX1400 = 1,520 mm wheelbase
    R1 = 1,415 mm wheelbase
    its very little to do with the engine and VERY MUCH to do with the wheel base... Thats the real reason why this race goes the way it does. the R1 cant take advantage of its power until well over 150 km/h and thats easy to see from the trouble the R1 has keeping the wheel down while the GSX is just sailing away. If torque was the issue a clutch'ed launch from the R1 would change the result... but it wont!
    none the less. I LOVE the video!

      I used to own a GSF1200 then went to a GSX1400, the Bandit was a lighter bike and nice to ride but the 1400 is the one to have. It just had presence other bikes could only dream of. A real grand tourer though with white rims i used to spend more time cleaning it than riding it. Plus get some muscles for when you put it on it's centre stand it weighs in about 230KG.

    So basically the GSX is only good if you’re racing to 100m?! 🤔who does that?! Considering a 1/4 mile is 400m...😑 plus when Yamaha made the R1 I don’t think they were thinking about drag racing or daily riding! I ride mine daily and it’s fucking horrible at it unless I’m cruising at 90mph or more. On the track or in the canyons though... mmmm happy place.

      100m racing is most common "duel" in streets to boost ego or damage somebody feelings.
