As soon as the video started I knew where you where driving. I have been to the highpoint shopping centre a few times. Awesome score, I got loads of desktops and laptops from my school back when I was still in high school. Nothing like getting free electronics. Love it. Do you do pickups like this often?
There is stucks like those and better everwhere. Glad that there is people like you outhere that takes care of those. Even those old electronics deserve 2nd chanse.
Ben I quit smoke's 1 year ago because I sounded just like you out of breath mate now I'm feeling fabo 50.00 bucks a pack no good love your video love your work keep on trucking
As long as the BIOS isn't password protected you can install a linux distribution onto them and you can use the laptop for a few years . That way you can wipe the hard drive clean and have an operating system to run the machine. Something easy like Zorin Os, or Linux Mint which is more GUI based than the dreaded command line. Although you can use the command line no problem. With linux you can surf the internet, do word processing, play music and play basic games, equivalent to a budget multimedia machine you can buy at a cheap price these days.
Recently took almost a hundred laptops out a skip with my art teacher, i couldn’t take them all but took ones in good condition and am repairing them and giving them to people who need them
Your a very trusting soul! In Britain, if you left your van open like that you’d return to find those laptops gone. Even worse, your van gone. It’s ironic that a country that started of as a prison colony now seems to be home to a much more honest population. If I wasn’t worried about snakes & spiders I’d move to Australia.
Lol, my father gave me one of those Asus laptops back in 2006 and it was a very good machine for gaming. The WiFi card also allowed me to pentest my neighbors WiFi hotspots XD Soo much good memories
Two years late but you can install a Linux distro like Linux Mint or Lubuntu on the Asus ones, I did that with a couple laptops to be used for virtual learning this year. The slower ones got a SSD upgrade and got much much faster. If they're newer they have the Windows license automatically and you can boot it from a usb as well. All those computers could be used for kids in poor countries who are having to take virtual classes now from small smartphones.
For the laptops with Windows 7 when you are turning it on hit f8 until the menu comes up asking to start the pc in safe mode. Select start-up in safe mode, then when Windows come up go to the settings click change password. Then put in whatever password you want to turn it off then turn it back on the password will be the one you just put in. It's a glitch that works on all Windows before Windows 10, I figured it out when I was a kid and I always messed with the teachers by changing their passwords when they left the room.
I like the idea that you disposed of your waste cardboard properly , but unless there's packing material in them I would have broken the boxes down into flats ...
The bottom of the laptop has the windows key under it. You can download the installer free from Microsoft, since you have a key. Usually you can just put it on a thumb drive, stick it in the laptop, turn it on, and you can wipe the old drive and install the fresh copy of windows.
If you turn on and off a Laptop few times while it's loading Windows (before login Window) then it will go into a repair mode. Just select restore to Factory and there you go. It might ask for a Windows Disk just burn a few disks.
If those Macs have been opened up you may find newer bigger RAM inside, and SSD hard drives to improve sloooooow boot up times. A cheap way to squeeze an extra couple of years use out of an originally expensive Laptop.
Ben, Sell the asus without the hard drives. Take a pic of the screen bios as to what that particular laptop has ( processor, memory, etc) minus the hard drive ....easy peasy quick and easy
I had an idea while watching this one again. A video or many videos, down the road. I've heard you say many times about things falling off your trolley, also have seen very few cuts in a video that might have been a mistake that you didn't think would look good. Here's my idea, once a month or when ever you get 10 minutes or more of nothing but BLOOPERS, OUTTAKES/MISTAKES & ANYTHING THAT YOU SAID OR DID THAT YOUR FANS CAN LAUGH AT. It's not as original as cutting in the middle or waiting till the end of the vid to show the CPU in older computers that you pick up during street scrapping or a house pick up. Hope you see this! Just trying to help with ideas so YOU & YOUR FANS can enjoy your TH-cam for longer and longer!!!! LOVE ALL YOU DO!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR STARTING THIS WONDERFUL ADVENTURE!!!! @@@georgethomas9436 : Yes that's great. Everytime I watch some dumpster diving videos from America, I am always a bit upset. You mix everything in them. Wood, plastic, metal, food, glas, tires.... In Germany dumpster diving is forbidden, because the trash belongs to the owner until the company takes it away. I really would go on a tour in America or Australia^^.
@@georgethomas9436 Ja, reselling is the best in my opinion. Use everything as long as possible. I mean for a recycler or scrapper the sheer amount is not handable. So they try to get everything of it. At the end of a life of a product that is also the best, because ressources are limited.
I have done a job at a school and collected 150 computers , i charged them $325 , and dumped them at the metal yard and got paid for them as well , Schools will pay for pick up .
Just curious - why don't you break down the cardboard boxes? Doesn't take long and you'd fit a ton more into your van, and probably wouldn't need to make trips to the recycling center as often. Not trying to criticize, just genuinely curious if you have a reason for it.
Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (Mid-2010) Specs 2 GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (PC3-8500) installed in pairs (two 1 GB modules), a 250 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive, and an 8X DL "SuperDrive." Hey Ben, I went to my local pawn shop one day and they had a USB drive that wiped the PC"S and Laptop's they get in and restores operating systems. Maybe your local pawn shop may have the same technology and will be able to let you know where you can get it. Not sure if you have to be licensed or not, or may need some kind of permission. But it maybe worth it to ya.
Does any of those work, or do you check? Nice find man, great job! I'm going to have to give my local college a call! Never mind, you answered my question, lol. Should have finished before commenting. Be safe.
Hey Ben, You may have addressed this in another video, but how much do you expect to make from this pickup? Just curious? Also, every time I watch your videos, I want to pack my bags and move to Australia! Great video, keep up the good work!!
The macs will go into storage until a later date, when they become good collectables, I don't value pick ups like this, it's just another bunch of stuff added to the rest and the next stuff I get.
how do you get into doing this and how to you get started ? if your into any type of modding could take the Monitor and use like a raspbery pi and make a clock or some thing out of it . . i know where people take them and turn them in to like andriod on the wall and check there mail ect with them
Love all your vids. Got a bonus today on this one, i got to see your face in the reflection on the laptop you opened. Jig is up you can do a face reveal now. lol. Your awesome mate.
If you really want to start doing this, I would start with word of mouth through your friends and family. You don't really want to just call up random businesses and schools and ask if they have free laptops and computers to give to you for free. Like I would literally hang up on you if you did that.
I would love a score like this. I am so jealous.
You're so freaking lucky.. I'd be in heaven with all those laptops and PC's !!

I admit to drooling...NOT ASHAMED of my Geekgasm. Not sure I could walk past that OPEN van without committing a crime.

Many BIOS'es have default passwords which leaked over the years. I've recovered some of those business machines with these default BIOS'es.
another fun video - thanks Ben

Showbiz Wisconsin yeah but seriously how many people actually set that up? Knowing how most people are with computers not many if any.
My school has BIOS passwords. But I agree
The schools in my area send their used computers to the central office where they are sold which eliminates that venue of rewaste

not yet 😛
do you pay for the e-waste you pick up?
What's so special about Macs?
how do you get the e waste
why not install mac os on each and you will have about 150 - 250 dollars each

It's called a clean install. You just download a Windows ISO file and create a bootable USB or CD. That pawn shop is a rip off.
And also, the computers have licenses built into the BIOS chip so it will automatically activate Windows

You should sell the laptop batteries on ebay in bulk they sell for alot now adays
how do you get into doing this and how to you get started ? if your into any type of modding could take the Monitor and use like a raspbery pi and make a clock or some thing out of it . . i know where people take them and turn them in to like andriod on the wall and check there mail ect with them
Love all your vids. Got a bonus today on this one, i got to see your face in the reflection on the laptop you opened. Jig is up you can do a face reveal now. lol. Your awesome mate.
How do I get into this. ID like to pick up and sell
If you really want to start doing this, I would start with word of mouth through your friends and family. You don't really want to just call up random businesses and schools and ask if they have free laptops and computers to give to you for free. Like I would literally hang up on you if you did that.
Why don't you close your van when you're leaving it? Do you want it to be stolen?
How do you get a job like this? Is it as easy as putting up a Craigslist ad saying you collect unwanted electronic waste?
Matthew Moore No, lol.
You selling those apple laptop? If so how much would it cost to ship to the United States. Love your channel btw. :D

Do you recycle everything or resell aswell?
And do you pay for the stuff you pick up?
Does the school give them to you or do you buy them from the school?
