If I understand correctly, the RIG monitors its user's vital signs and physiological activity, and if the user sustains damage, it automatically injects them with its concoction of stem cells and healing boosters. Possibly also painkillers, though seeing as how the RIG uses the nervous system to gauge the severity of injuries, painkiller use is probably either minimal, or the RIG simply monitors the amount of painkillers in the blood and factors this into its assessment of health, which I imagine wouldn't be too difficult a function to program into it. Though with this healing method, the person would be unable to regrow limbs. Impliedly the technology of Dead Space allows it, but this would likely need to take place in a clinic as it would definitely require more medical meddling than a few injections of the superhealing agent. the collector's edition of dead space 3 came with a water bottle/replica of the med pack. it has an ingredients list and drug facts with it but I'm not sure what they are. great video btw
Thanks to Dead Space 3 we have confirmation that the health packs indeed have a form of liquid which is known as "Somatic gel", not only in that game is used to create health packs but to also upgrade your RIG for more health
I learn more about biology watching your videos than I did in college. Granted, I was playing doom on my laptop, but youve proven that can be educational too!
Following on the theory of gel preserves, there has to be some amount and variation of nutrients to supply the healing process. So the caution and critical states are barely keeping you alive from this; while the wounds are fully healed, the healing process is taxing on the body, and there aren't enough nutrients being supplied to stabilize the body, explaining the lack of balance and oxygen depravation.
Oh man. I'm quite happy at how big your channel's grown. I've been one of your earliest subs and the content just keeps getting better. Thank you for the gold content.
Thank you so much for all these videos. I've been writing a Dead Space DnD campaign and have been using most of your videos as reference tools/inspiration. This video helps with the problem in approaching the health pack system and medicine skill checks. It'll be in the works for a while but you have saved me so much time. Thank you for you!
Your channel is much better than game theory. You explain things in a more analyzing way and more scientific. Game theory on the other hand only knows how to talk about FNAF. Keep up the good work roanoke.
My mind was preparing to casually talk about my own hypothesis here, but then you literally just presented my theory in the video right in the middle. Which is the bar doesn't read the players condition, but actually contains healing fluid.
My assumption about the Medpaks would be that they were just like... Nanomachines suspended in some kind of fluid to help them get around the body faster. Then they would latch onto and repair any damage coming in from some outside source, like... an artificial healing factor. I do like the idea of the Rig as both measuring a user's overall health AND a measure of how much of this solution they have left a lot, though. It would also explain why you can get down to red, basically a one hit kill, but you don't collapse from Bloodloss or pass out from pain or even show any signs of slowing down or loss of function. But when the rig is red, and you get hit with more force than be fixed - you're done. As we see with anyone who WASN'T wearing an armoured Rig Suit, Necromorphs can one-hit kill just about anyone. But if the person was being healed as they get hit by an amount of the solution that corresponded to how much they were hurt, it explains why they can take so much punishment. Isaac gets stabbed like... a lot. In places where he shouldn't be able to move his arms after taking the hit. This theory explains why he can keep moving after all that AND explains why he doesn't show any signs of damage.
I think it's fascinating how the diegetic mindset that the developers worked with lead to the creation of the RIG system. Like "let's show the player how much health they have, as a display on their suit" suddenly turns into a brief lesson on neurology. This kinda blows my mind.
I love that their stuff makes scene in an industrial space environment, stasis to slow down heavy machinery, the force to move it, the rig to show your health to others who might be out in the vacuum
Your hypothesis does make a lot of sense. The first thing I thought of is when you upgrade your rig. You gain more health bars, it makes more sense that you're actually increasing your compacity to hold the healing substance.
Glad you agree! I should have mentioned that in the video, or the fact that when Isaac gets shot in DS3 and clearly injured, he doesnt continue to bleed out
The idea of the blue line not being any actual health indicator but a fuel tank indicator is rather interesting. I honestly never thought of anything of that sort and yet it does make perfect sense. About health packs, i always thought of the easiest and silliest sci-fi explanation possible - nano robots of sorts, send to simply repair or replace damaged or destroyed human cells
Nanoengineering and advances in molecular medicine are happening even now, given 5 centuries to develop? It is more than plausible. I'd even say it's probable!
This is an awesome video. I love your expectation for the health packs! And I didn't know about the RIGs, and those cool! Can't wait for the next video! Speaking of.... what's next?
Glad you enjoyed it bro! thank you for the compliment! and thats a good question, Might run a twitter poll on that! or just straight up cover resistance, or perhaps mass effect
Yay my favourite game, made by my favourite youtuber and my favourite thing lore. Beside meta nerds lore the only TH-cam channel that I'm excited about when they post.
After knowing about this game for about three years, nuts finally dropped and I'm playing it. Roanoke, you're the reason I'm in my room in the dark playing this thing with he volume blasting. Thanks my guy🤙
I always imagined the RIG spinal feature was surgically implanted. Its somehow mounted to your spine and everything is designed to work and fit around it. Maybe its removable by a machine taking it off of a housing. Leaving you with the option to have it put back in when you need. But once you have it its kinda always there, and you need to deal with it.
The bar being a literal canister would explain why you can increase your health bar at a bench. I don't think nodes would magically increase your life expectancy. It would also explain the more raised design in later games with the health bar extending away from the body.
You do a legitimate TH-cam job to make pretty sweet content and commentary! I enjoy your channel and videos so far. 😁 How about the equipment of the halo universe? Of course the in game stuff that the players interact with such as the simple stuff like the land mines and sprinting to the more technical stuff such as bubble shields, armor lock, and jet packs? Just an idea pitch. 😊 Keep on keeping on Roanoke!
10:19 If I remember right from reading the flavor text a major component for health packs is Somatic Gel. An agent that doe not dull pain but makes the user's brain stop reacting to it.
The rig is basically the most advanced form of smartphone, being embedded to the body itself. With the benefit of vital monitoring, directly injecting useful substances into the body, and displaying useful information of the technology you interact with, such as how much oxygen is in your suit
You have one of the coolest theories about the RIG I've ever heard! (Don't mind me, I'm just re-binging a bunch of your vids AGAIN and somehow had missed this one??) This would be a rare time where a videogame acknowledge the fact that the character keeps moving fine after being stabbed through the chest if they still have health only to drop dead after a bonk on the noggin' if their health runs out. I LOVE that idea of the colored light being an actual container.
7:30 ok I played the game before I found your channel, and honestly, that was my exact theory about the healing thing! Also love the channel you are better than Matpat
@@RoanokeGaming Well your theory is a bit more advanced. I just thought that 'hey, the medic packs probably have some kind of gel inside them which makes his regenaration go faster'. It just seemed logical.
The merch will be coming in 2019! and I am happy to be doing it, I thought maybe morphology videos were getting a little stale so I try to keep it mixed up, glad you enjoyed it!

I started playing Dead Space again recently and stumbled upon your channel. Quality Dead Space videos, dude! Can't wait to check out what else you have going.
I would say not only would it have what you said but i think they would also have nutrients and carbohydrates because all those cells need energy and materials from somewhere.
Another masterful upload dude ! I always loved them; their endless variants/dieversity; multiple purposes; they always seem to be far more cooler than the MassEffect/Halo undermentioned suits 👍
You hypothesis makes a lot of sense. More then a glowing bar telling you how much health you have. Instead it tell you the how much clotting/ rapid cellular regeneration juice you have left.
I also thought that it could be reading your spinal fluid to see what is going on, and that far in the future might be able to get more info out of it and all the other things you said. Your thought about the bar telling you how much fluid you have left was a good one.
@@RoanokeGaming yeah lmao. From what I remember the game is a prequal that takes place during the Extraction of the marker. Hopefully you can play the game and cover it!
I remember when I wanted to make videos about Dead Space lore. But channels like this only solidify that I would be dead in the water. So I'll just watch someone else do it. Great channel.
Sorry to break it to ya, You are never going to be like game theory. You actually fact check -Vikings and feudal knights dont know what shields are, katanas can cut through plate armor-
Never thought of the “health bar” as anything but a digital indicator. The health gel actually being stored in the spinal part of the RIG is for sure my new headcanon. Great video!
I alwasy did Imagine the med packs to be some king of medical bio-gel that compensate damaged tissues; your explenation was really good in visualizing that.
YES. OUR CONVERSATION. I CAN HEAR IT. YEEEESSS dude you're awesome and it brings me joy to hear our discussion of this exact topic resonating in this video.
This theory makes even more sense when you consider the fact that the Ishimura grew embryonic clones of their staff in case of lost limbs from the harsh workings conditions or to perform organ transplants for severely injured patients some of these could have been used to make the medpack
I've been watching your stuff hardcore while doing my solo grinds and told my bois about you and we are all big fans cause you make something for us all to enjoy. Love your stuff alot and forget to like so I'll be sure 3rd time around this playlist to give you what you deserve. Top tier videos
You might note one major occasion when the RIG is specifically featured in a cutscene: Dead Space 3 when Jacob Arthur Danik shoots a man in the back of the head and his RIG bar drops slowly from full to nil. Your theory about the health pack fluids being in the back tube may take a little hit there. Though, it's entirely possible that Danik's (presumed) bullet left an exit hole and the RIG bio-repair fluid would simply leak out faster than it could repair the damage. Or, as the man was effectively dead before hitting the ground, his RIG might've simply no longer registered a living nervous system and deactivated, draining the now-useless RIG fluids into the system and, possibly, out through the wound without any effect at all. This would be certainly possible if the fluid actually contain nano-machines which are controlled and coordinated by the RIG to patch up the wearer. Or, maybe, the RIG just deactivated. Period. In case you don't recall the scene I'm referring to with Danik, I linked a video below. The moment in question is at 1:42 minutes in. Thoughts? th-cam.com/video/gYHdnnfMQBY/w-d-xo.html
oh I remember! however, bullet to the head may stop the heart so it cant circulate, or maybe a head wound is just too intense to repair. though check it out, Isaac gets shot, yet survives, should have mentioned that actually lol
@@RoanokeGaming Poor Isaac did get shot (in the arm, it looks like) immediately before Danik executes the man as well as multiple times during regular Rambo DS3 gameplay -- thanks a lot, EA. But, in retrospect, we do see the necromorphs, ahem, *administer* plenty of stabbing trauma on par with that of larger-caliber bullets. Think of all the wonderful neck/upper shoulder-stabbing grappling sequences. Right in the vicinity of where all of those delicate neck veins are. But what do I know? I didn't study biology for years in college. I just have experience butchering deer (Venison = ♥) and nicking myself with razors while shaving my slicker brush-tough beard stubble. Let's just call it "Video Game Logic". No, wait. That would be quitting... DEBATE!
If you destroy the brain, the rig detects you are dead so it shuts down so all the people around see that there is nothing else to do to save him. Also becouse there was a scene where they cut their own throats and the rig goes to zero pretty quickly, in the big mad drill "boss fight" area. So i think the rig just says "nope he's dead for sure"
@@WaveOfDestiny maybe his initial idea of the rig is correct, and the healthpacks are just this miracle cure gel. So when they slit their throats and the rig goes dead, it's because it goes *oop, his throat is fucked, blood loss is massive, he ded*
I really like your theory :D the armor reduces the damage and buying time for that fixing juice to do its work. And the armor helps sustain and keep the person somewhat function not outright collapse or unconcious when heavily wounded and fixing juice is about to run out until they can find a med pack. The spinal unit may control how much pain you feel or just cut off the pain so you can still function
Since we’re talking about the future, the packs could be containers of synthetic Plasma which is basically perfect nutritional shakes for our body. This is kinda what you described. The packs would probably be a mixture of plasma, stem cells and maybe a hormone to force our body to release endorphins which is our natural painkiller. All that combined with the insane amount of adrenaline anyone would experience in that situation, you’d be next to super human.

the collector's edition of dead space 3 came with a water bottle/replica of the med pack. it has an ingredients list and drug facts with it but I'm not sure what they are. great video btw
Thanks bro! and that sounds interesting, what was the juice?
@@RoanokeGaming it was moonshine. That's the juice. Or Tupac in juice. Or OJ Simpson.
Thanks to Dead Space 3 we have confirmation that the health packs indeed have a form of liquid which is known as "Somatic gel", not only in that game is used to create health packs but to also upgrade your RIG for more health
Excellent analysis, I always wanted to hear a logical reason for the standard healing items in video games
Thanks bro! and I am glad I could deliver!
Simple they have Wolverine's healing factor.
I love how this dude explains on a realistic level. Keep making videos my guy
Absolutely my dude! and I am glad you are enjoying them!
I learn more about biology watching your videos than I did in college. Granted, I was playing doom on my laptop, but youve proven that can be educational too!
haha I had a habit of looking at memes in college so dont feel bad! But I am glad you are enjoying them!
Thank you for the gold content.
thanks for sticking around my dude and thank you for the compliment bro! glad you are enjoying the content!
I have reason to believe the blue light is actually slurp juice.
Which I am sure is delicious!
Roanoke Gaming fortnites game description for it is "only 1% juice"

Thank you so much for all these videos. I've been writing a Dead Space DnD campaign and have been using most of your videos as reference tools/inspiration.
This video helps with the problem in approaching the health pack system and medicine skill checks.
It'll be in the works for a while but you have saved me so much time.
Thank you for you!
Dead Space DnD sounds hella wicked. Wish I could play that.
Absolutely bro! Hope yall have fun when you play!
If I'm being honest I'm definitely addicted to this channel. I rewatch videos everyday.
I am glad you enjoy them that much bro! thats pretty great to hear!
I always hope that Dead Space Videos in my Feed are from your Channel and i have yet to be disappointed. Nice work i really love it.
Yaaaaas, glad you enjoyed it bro and thank you for the compliment!
Your channel is much better than game theory. You explain things in a more analyzing way and more scientific. Game theory on the other hand only knows how to talk about FNAF. Keep up the good work roanoke.
Its ya boi isaac clarke

Fair point but it still happened. He may not have deserved it or wanted it, but it still happened, and this can never be forgotten.
My mind was preparing to casually talk about my own hypothesis here, but then you literally just presented my theory in the video right in the middle.
Which is the bar doesn't read the players condition, but actually contains healing fluid.
I want to see how the HEV suit works (shielding, health kit integration, the ability to protect you from a headshot without a helmet.etc)
The fallen and can't get up joke is great. Literally delved back through all of your Dead Space videos to find it.
Wow, 0 dislikes. Well deserved mate, keep it up!
Thanks bro! I am very fortunate!
I thoroughly appreciate your adhering to the lore and staying relevant, whilst giving logical explanations. Excellent job!
Yes, but your channel is better then the other theory channel.
Thank bro! I appreciate the compliment!
I love that their stuff makes scene in an industrial space environment, stasis to slow down heavy machinery, the force to move it, the rig to show your health to others who might be out in the vacuum
Can you do a video on Biofoam from Halo 3 ODST and how it works?
I might be able to do that down the line!
Roanoke Gaming please
Glad you agree my dude! and the nanites is a very interesting idea, in the future that could be a possibility tbh
@@RoanokeGaming thanks dude! An idea for future maybe- monsters and creatures form the Witcher world. What you think?
Nanoengineering and advances in molecular medicine are happening even now, given 5 centuries to develop? It is more than plausible. I'd even say it's probable!
This is an awesome video. I love your expectation for the health packs! And I didn't know about the RIGs, and those cool!
Can't wait for the next video! Speaking of.... what's next?
Glad you enjoyed it bro! thank you for the compliment! and thats a good question, Might run a twitter poll on that! or just straight up cover resistance, or perhaps mass effect

The meme to end all memes!
@@RoanokeGaming a meme to Rule them !
[this meme has 🅱een 🅱anned by the European administration D:]
I actually agree with the rig tank fluid theory, as in some deaths Isaac doesn’t just drop dead immediately even though the meter is completely out,
Yay my favourite game, made by my favourite youtuber and my favourite thing lore. Beside meta nerds lore the only TH-cam channel that I'm excited about when they post.
That is excellent to hear bro! I hope you continue to enjoy the videos!
Glad you agree my dude!
You do a legitimate TH-cam job to make pretty sweet content and commentary! I enjoy your channel and videos so far. 😁
How about the equipment of the halo universe? Of course the in game stuff that the players interact with such as the simple stuff like the land mines and sprinting to the more technical stuff such as bubble shields, armor lock, and jet packs? Just an idea pitch. 😊
Keep on keeping on Roanoke!
I might be able to do something like that and thank you for the compliments bro! Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos! :D
10:19 If I remember right from reading the flavor text a major component for health packs is Somatic Gel. An agent that doe not dull pain but makes the user's brain stop reacting to it.
The rig is basically the most advanced form of smartphone, being embedded to the body itself.
With the benefit of vital monitoring, directly injecting useful substances into the body, and displaying useful information of the technology you interact with, such as how much oxygen is in your suit
very useful tech!
Hammond was basically vlogging with that shit
You have one of the coolest theories about the RIG I've ever heard!
(Don't mind me, I'm just re-binging a bunch of your vids AGAIN and somehow had missed this one??)
This would be a rare time where a videogame acknowledge the fact that the character keeps moving fine after being stabbed through the chest if they still have health only to drop dead after a bonk on the noggin' if their health runs out.
I LOVE that idea of the colored light being an actual container.
7:30 ok I played the game before I found your channel, and honestly, that was my exact theory about the healing thing! Also love the channel you are better than Matpat
Well thank you for the compliment bro! and great minds think alike huh?
@@RoanokeGaming Well your theory is a bit more advanced. I just thought that 'hey, the medic packs probably have some kind of gel inside them which makes his regenaration go faster'. It just seemed logical.
I'm genuinely really happy to see you start branching out a bit here and there. Keep it up my dude!

You hypothesis makes a lot of sense. More then a glowing bar telling you how much health you have. Instead it tell you the how much clotting/ rapid cellular regeneration juice you have left.
Glad you agree my dude! I thought it may have made sense too!
I miss deadspace. Simpler times.
you should go play it my guy!

ayyyy thanks bro! I am glad to hear that!
I also thought that it could be reading your spinal fluid to see what is going on, and that far in the future might be able to get more info out of it and all the other things you said. Your thought about the bar telling you how much fluid you have left was a good one.

This theory makes even more sense when you consider the fact that the Ishimura grew embryonic clones of their staff in case of lost limbs from the harsh workings conditions or to perform organ transplants for severely injured patients some of these could have been used to make the medpack
glad you agree bro!
Your theory on the Dead Space R.I.G. armor and health packs are very informative as well as interesting.

Roanoke Gaming yeah ?I did!
My guess for what the health pack liquid is made out of is horseshoe crab blood, or at least I think it's the reason that it is blue.
Hey! Stumbled across your channel in recommended tab. Glad I did. Don’t worry. Leagues above Game Theory! Can’t wait for more to come!
That is great to hear! I appreciate the compliment and happy to hear you enjoy the content bro!
Glad you agree my dude!
