I absolutely love this movie and I love the original dialogue, it shows how Shakespeare's stories are still relevant today and is the most creative (but successful) Shakespeare adaptation I've seen
This film made me love Shakespeare. Of course I didn't understand the dialogue but that guy Baz Lurman really really really brought something to the party with this film. He had to create a whole companion "visual" movie to explain to a modern audience what the hell Shakespeare was talking about. Incredible! Casting two actors who were actual teenagers was key. I think "R&J" is the greatest play ever because of the family dynamic of the Montsgues and the Capulets. The parents were awesome. The family's gangs were awesome.
I am a Shakespeare fan to the bone and this is great Shakespeare. Very true to the characters and emotions, the excitement , the words. Great acting by everyone, and the Nurse stole every scene she was in. Fantastic transfer into modern times: LSD and the brand names on the guns was clever and fit well.
I really need to thank the creators of this movie...I had a test on Romeo and Juliet, I couldnt comprehend and read the novel overnight. I just watched this movie instead throughout the night and believe me...I was the best at my Literature test😂
This trailer has been going through my mind ever since re-listening to Mundy's To You I Bestow. Where Tybalt yells "Romeo!" Is etched into that time stamp of the song because I saw this trailer (and movie) soooo many times as a 15 year old girl. I'll love it forever.
My sister and girl cousin were all over Leo at this point of his career. He was the biggest heart throb in history at this point so I was forced to watch this movie over and over. though I did like some parts like the beginning and the rivalry between the families. That kept a boy aged 7 invested in this movie, and Clair Daines was actually rather hot back then.
If only Romeo's family and Juliet's family put aside their bitter differences. Just let the 2 love birds get married without causing hatred, bloodshed, and violence.
Yeah, people think this movie is about a pedophile dating a 12 year old girl, but they're wrong, a 4 year difference doesn't matter, people are so sensitive these days
@@r1tzy5551 when you're still growing up and your brain is still developing, an age difference like that is huge. 13-17 is not an equivalent age gap to, say, 33-37. In Shakespearean times, girls were married off very young, so in the play it makes sense, but a relationship today should never be between a 13 and a 17 year old. Where I live, the age of consent is 16 with a 2 year allowance, so this would be illegal.
Didn't care much about the romance in Romeo + Juliet. But damn, the firearms in this movie are stylish as f*ck. Especially Tybalt's Beretta pistols with Holy Mary grips. Plus the way he fights with them is real dandy.
this is undoubtedly the best modern adaptation, of the eternal work of Shakespeare, full of adventure, drama, madness, romance, and more, even in the middle of a twisted and corrupt environment, the love can flourish, but sometimes the circumstances can be tragic unfortunately, this is the unforgettable masterpiece of Baz Luhrmann, and the new definition of a inmortal classic, as never seen before.
