Correction. I meant to say autonomous not automated. Sorry folks.

Huge piece of metal on wheels with sharp, spinning blades and other farm gear that drives itself around your property...what could possibly go wrong???

You’d be surprised at how smart this machine is. Also it doesn’t travel as fast. It will stop before reaching an obstacle. And strips of farm land are much safer than highways.

During my college years, around 2nd or 3rd year, we were told that mechanization and machine operations in agriculture is no joke. treat every machine with care and hazard. One misstep and it will be a disaster. However, this is a step up in technology which hopefully reduces human error. believe me, I'm an agricultural and biosystems engineer.

@@rlaw8658 then what is the purpose of this machine? What exactly are farmers to be doing with the "free" time they'll have not being in the seat.
I can't see it improving anything, farmers have time to do the jobs that don't require tractors, it's time in the tractor during suitable conditions that's scarce. That means running machines optimally as long as possible with as little down time as possible.
The little adjustments and imperfections that human operators make and work around while getting the job done are countless over a full season. If this machine can't operate outside its program can't assess changes in its environment and working conditions past what information is given to it by the farmer then it won't work.
It's going to end up a white elephant in the ag industry history.
If you tell a computer it's seeing 1+1 it can add that up to 2, but if it actually see 1+2 as far as it is concerned its 1+? and that won't compute and it'll stop.
      Just won't work

I was going to sleep, watching this last video, and I am a fan of yours. But at 4:09 you said the average age of a farmer is 55 years old, because they sit behind a chair 'like that'. I know you mean that having robotic tractors will help them endure aging, but they are 55 because no one, not even their own kids in most cases, want to do the job. It's not even respected the way it once was. I'm glad the robotics are here also (I guess... I'm an old guy) - because I want to see America continue as a leader in food production. Nice video.
