@@scottrayhons2537 I have a 5210, 2000 model and it doesn't have any sensors on it. One reason dad and I quit farming was all this high tech stuff we couldn't work on. The last new Deere combine we bought in the mid 2000s was a wonderful machine when everything on it was working right but it had electronic gremlins. We had to put a battery tender on that thing and keep it plugged in because something on it would KILL the batteries if you left it parked for more than a couple of days. we never could figure out what the problem was nor could JD. Fortunately we didn't farm very far from home so we could drive the combine back to the house and park it in the shed every night and plug it in. The digital corner post display in the cab had to be sent off to be fixed more than once. Half the time the auto header height control wouldn't work right. Same deal with the feeder house reverser. It was a low hour machine that had never sat out and we got top dollar for it when we sold out. I heard that the guy who bought that combine at dad's retirement sale kept it for only one season. He probably got tired of dead batteries and having to jump start it.

I have never understood this policy of John Deere. I can understand JD not wanting farmers to attempt to change computer programs on farm machinery but to stop people attempting physical repairs doesn't make sense. Here in Australia, especially in the sparsely populated wheat growing areas, the nearest dealer can be a couple of hundred kilometres away. Wheat growers will often need to harvest at night if incoming bad weather threatens their crops, so if a harvester breaks a parts the operator will attempt to fix it. Harvesting contractors usuallly carry spare parts and farmers usually have a workshop, but they are told they will "void the warranty" if they attempt to repair it themselves!

So wasting time setting up the automation, correcting mistakes, travelling to and from the machine to solve issues when they happen instead of instantly as they happen, that's all wasted time in the most important time slot.

Indeed... But most of these farmers brought this upon themselves, So let the farmers childrens families pull themselves by their bootstrap and go back to school. Because they should not expect a free hand out from our taxes money.
Because that is what most of these farmers YELLED! When We The People were asking for HELP from our Racist EViL Nation, Demanding for the USA to join every industrialized Nation in helping their citizen by providing “BASiC HUMAN GOODS” such as:
      - Health Care For-All
      - Mental Health Care For-All
      - Drug Rehabilitation For-All
      - Education/Trade For-All
      - Federal Jobs/Trade Guarantee For-All
      - Housing For-All to its citizen
So ZERO! Tears, until they start fighting for the rest of We The People needs...
      - Health Care For-All
      - Mental Health Care For-All
      - Drug Rehabilitation For-All
      - Education/Trade For-All
      - Federal Jobs/Trade Guarantee For-All
      - Housing For-All to its citizen

John deere comes out with something cool and all of a sudden everyone becomes an activist for right to repair. truth is most people will screw more stuff up trying to fix it themselves than just having someone who know what their doing fix it. Also all the tech info and books you could ever want is available for any john deere tractor, also service advisor is available for customers to connect to diagnostics of their tractor so Iam pretty sure everyone thats complaining about it has never even looked into trying to fix their own tractor if they even own one which ninety percent of commenters on here probably don’t. If your internet or phone service goes down are you going to complain about not being able to fix it yourself or just call the provider because you don’t really know how to fix it. Same with anything els.

First thing I would look at is return on investment. No matter what, I can not see how this is better than putting someone in the tractor for 20 bucks an hour. I saw in the video how this makes a farmers job easier. That should not be a reason to go into debt for this tech.

John Deere wants to "rent" you the package so they can take a % of your business. They'll make it extremely difficult to service and for sure won't allow you to service the new components yourself. Who owns the machine you pay for? John Deere thinks they do and if you allow them to continue to think that way they will.

They should automate less destructive forms of soil aeration. Run-off from tillage ruins streams and rivers. All of the organic matter on top runs down stream causing dry, clay like soil to be on top, causing more of a need for aeration/ tillage.
