Come And See is definitely a movie everyone should watch no matter what. The realism and trauma of the movie is something the movie industry probably wont be able to beat in a very long time.
Strange. I'm a fan, but to me, it was the one that clearly didn't belong on this list. It's a great movie, no doubt, but I'm not sure what someone would really be "missing" by not seeing it. It didn't have the cultural or filmmaking impact of movies like The Matrix, T2, Schindler's List, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Raiders, etc.
The Godfather is one of the few films that I would say is literally perfect. Others include The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, King Kong (the original), The Wizard of Oz, the original Star Wars, The Shining, Psycho, The Princess Bride, and The Adventures of Robin Hood.
The original King Kong is basically a stop-motion, therefore an unrealistic motion of the creature so I disagree. Peter Jackson's 2005 remake is far better than the original with the use of better technology. Also the Lord of the Rings trilogy I would consider as being in that category of perfection.
I'd say The Farewell could be one cause of it's sad yet heart warming story and cause for me it is where I learned about the difference in cultural views of when someone is dying. How in America we tell the person they are dying, but in some other countries they don't
@@MsUltrafox Yes, the movie came out 50 years ago. He was saying that 100 years from now it will still be one of the greatest movies. He wasn't saying It came out 100 years ago but way to miss the obvious.

Layer Cake, Watchmen, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, The Departed, There Will Be Blood, The Social Network, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Trilogy), The Gentlemen, Blood Diamond, Crank, X-Men Series, Gangs Of Wasseypur 1 & 2, Delhi Belly, Rockstar, Rock On.

Some other choices: Rashomon: The film that did what you professed Parasite did (opened up Asian cinema to a wider audience) and it also led to the creation of the best foreign film category and influenced films such as Memento and The Usual Suspects. Double Indemnity - arguably the best film noir. Persona - ground zero for art house identity crisis. The predecessor of 3 Women and Mulholland Drive. Paris, Texas - German New Wave comes to America (I know part of The American Friend was filmed in NYC) and climaxes with one of the best double monologues ever put to film. Lawrence of Arabia - one of the 2 greatest epics ever made. The other being Seven Samurai Taxi Driver - it's influence is still being felt today. Nightcrawler would be a good recent example. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - won the big 5 Oscars. Has 2 incredible lead performances and one of the greatest endings of all time.
I would put Double Indemnity over Maltese Falcon for sure. MF was 'okay' but not as strong as others. Good call. Not sure if The Third Man counts as Noir, but I would consider that over Maltese Falcon as well.
Rashomon is classic. Based on Ryounosuke Akutagawa's short story (One of the most prestigeous Japanese literary awards carry his name) adapted by Kurosawa for larger audinces, including those abroad. Great call.
I see what you guys did there. It's a really interesting list, a lot of genres. I understand looking at that criteria no need of Jurassic Park, Titanic, Schindler's List, The Shawshank Redemption. But Terminator 2, as an action movie genre, was obligatory!
Surprised Star Wars was on the list because everyone will watch Star Wars at some point in their life. I thought of this as a list of films that people may have missed seeing or haven't bothered to see but should. To that end, To Kill A Mockingbird should have been on this list as well as Casablanca. The acting in Mockingbird is outstanding and Casablanca is one of the most perfect scripts you'll ever come across. A perfect lesson in story telling.
I mean, I dunno if To Kill a Mockingbird is a must see, but the book is definitely a must read. And yeah, Casablanca is in the top 3 for me in the greatest screenplays ever made
@@errwhattheflip Try watching To Kill A Mockingbird with the audio off. Of course it's beautifully written and acted, but with the audio off you may see how beautifully this film was shot. The setup, the camera moves, the lighting etc. Please try it and you may change your mind.

Wizard of Oz is my top movie followed by Its a Wonderful Life. Along with Singing in the Rain I would add Cabaret. Cabaret defined the modern Hollywood music and Singing in the Rain was the pinnacle of Old Hollywood musicals. The Elephant Man answered the modern-day question, “How could people stand to watch movies in black and white in olden times?” I remember dragging my friends to see it and they moaned about having to see a black and white film. Needless to say they were tongue-tied on the drive home.
I actually like movies that are filmed black and white from the good old days of the movie era. Everyone looks so much more beautiful/ handsome in the black and white
@@LeanneFowler-ms5xc The lighting of a black and white film is so important and it does make actors seem more beautiful or more evil. The person who was most beautiful/handsome in both eras was Cary Grant! No one ever aged as well as he did.
Take out Gone With The Wind and Singing In The Rain and add in Shawshank and A Clockwork Orange. The Princess Bride and Stand By Me should totally be on here too.
Parasite, The Dark Knight, and The Matrix are my three movies that I would recommend to everyone. Specifically, The Matrix because it totally shows how we might just be wasting our time on this earth.
I agree - that movie has gone on to bring us so much more in all following Alien movies. We just need a longer list. Anyone could make a top 20 list. My personal favorites: Lord of the Rings Trilogy Interstellar The Dark Knight Spirited Away Django Unchained Saving Private Ryan Indiana Jones (all three of them, yes, there's only three) Grave of the Fireflies 12 Angry Men
Although I enjoyed _Crystal Skull,_ I agree that the franchise’s other films are must-watches, along with _Dark Knight,_ _Maltese Falcon,_ _Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope,_ and _The Avengers._

IMO The Dark Knight is highly overrated. The scenes without Joker are boring as heck, his plan is extremely contrived, and Christian Bale’s acting as Batman was horrible. It’s a good movie, but I don’t understand what makes it so different from other good movies besides the performance of Ledger (which was admittedly amazing).
Not a single WWII movie on this list. A Bridge too far - The bridge on the River Kwai - Tora Tora Tora - Saving Private Ryan - Battle of the Buldge - Midway - The Great Escape - Escape from Sobibor - Das Boot - The Longest Day - Inglourious Basterds - Schindler's List. These 12 are a must-see for everybody.
No list of WWII movies is complete without the Belarusian movie 'Come And See'. It is a tough watch, but the best portrait of what WWII was like for "Untermenschen" in Belarus. It is based on real events as experienced by the director.
The only movie on this list that I have yet to see is Parasite. Don’t ask me to pick a favourite among these films though…they are all wonderful representations of Cinema. Cheers. 🇨🇦

Close Encounters of the Third Kind doesn't even get an honorable mention? Game changing movie that had a huge influence not only in cinema but popular culture. And that theme...
These lists are always interesting (and personal), and you did a nice job of narrowing it down to 20. Always glad to see what others consider their favorites. I'm glad you didn't confine yourself to more contemporary films, and even included a foreign film. My own personal top 20 would include more foreign films (at the very least, Bergman's The Seventh Seal and Truffaut's Jules and Jim); in addition, I would definitely have to add Dr. Strangelove, Network (because what seemed like outrageous satire is all coming true!), and Goodfellas. And one more that probably not too many have seen: Spike Lee's Bamboozled, which make be the most uncomfortable movie you will ever see, but is also the most trenchant and uncompromising look at racism in the entertainment industry.
Few of my favs There will be blood The tamarind seed The talented Mr ripley The bridge on river kawai Lionheart Gorgeous Not stating the obvious and more famous ones
I would definitely add Chinatown and On the waterfront as well as Rosemary’s baby and The best years of our lives. Overall this was a great list, however, and I’d agree that all of those mentioned are great movies
I hate how the movie industry is dying, right when the cameras and CGI are pretty much top notch too 😢 I don’t think the movies of this era will be considered classics at any point in the future
Very good list, marred by the GLARING omissions of Pulp Fiction (absolutely essential for film - and culture - of the last 30 years) and Citizen Kane, which I was POSITIVE would be #1. These are both very disappointing, especially considering how good the rest of the list is. ETA: you really need to have either Snow White or The Little Mermaid in there, too. I'm not a big fan, but Disney animation is absolutely essential to the film experience. I'd also add The Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Bride of Frankenstein, but I would not have expected these.
The bells of Saint Mary white Christmas the sound of music calamity Jane the war wagon the shootist the geisha the sands of iwei jima the man who shot liberty valance are just a few I consider classics
I would say mine include: (thinking of movies I've watched more than a couple of times and will watch again, inpo) Whiplash Jurassic Park The Lion King Rosemary's Baby The Wizard of Oz Goodfellas Breakfast at Tiffany's The Exorcist Office Space The Notebook Titanic Split Forrest Gump Crash ... Im sure I missed a few
Gah! I don’t think I could handle it if it’s scarier than the movie. It took many times to make it through the movie and each time would be scared for weeks. A lot of it was the visuals. One that still is so unsettling even tho nothing is happening is the Virgin Mary screen, I’m not a very religious person but that was just awful. What was scarier about the book? Very curious.
I'd also like to add to this list ... "Alien," a great film for sci-fi fans and anyone who enjoys a good haunted house story ... "Ghostbusters," for being original and funny ... "Back to the Future," for being one of the most original films of its time, funny and heartwarming and adventurous all at once. I also have to add "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan" because of how it brought some serious darkness and human depth to the crew of the Enterprise. Damn, while I'm at it, I'm surprised that "Jaws" didn't make the cut here, as it is an incredibly effective horror film that also bears the distinction of being something that could actually happen, thereby scaring the crap out of anyone thinking about going out for a swim at the beach.

The Green Mile and Titanic are also movies I'll never get tired of watching. Forrest Gump is also a good comfort movie
You should check out Bad Boy Bubby if you liked Forrest Gump
Come And See is definitely a movie everyone should watch no matter what. The realism and trauma of the movie is something the movie industry probably wont be able to beat in a very long time.
Okay that's it - I need to finally get to Modern Times and Singin' in the Rain. Great list!
Dark knight is the movie everyone needs to see.
Nah. Just the scenes with Heath.
It's a good one. Probably the best single superhero movie.
I wouldn't say that
@@FleaRHCP97 what's the impact on Shindler's list?
The Godfather is one of the few films that I would say is literally perfect. Others include The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, King Kong (the original), The Wizard of Oz, the original Star Wars, The Shining, Psycho, The Princess Bride, and The Adventures of Robin Hood.
I'd personally add the original Jurassic Park
I love all the titles on your list, except for King Kong
personally i found the shining to be really boring
The original King Kong is basically a stop-motion, therefore an unrealistic motion of the creature so I disagree. Peter Jackson's 2005 remake is far better than the original with the use of better technology.
Also the Lord of the Rings trilogy I would consider as being in that category of perfection.
@@WhoWantsToKnow69 me tooo it was boring
I'd say The Farewell could be one cause of it's sad yet heart warming story and cause for me it is where I learned about the difference in cultural views of when someone is dying. How in America we tell the person they are dying, but in some other countries they don't
I love Gone with the Wind. I wonder if anyone else of my generation appreciates the film like I do.
Everyone should see Fight Club imo.
The Godfather was and still is a masterpiece. 100 years since the movie came out, it will still remains one of, if not the greatest movie of all time
100 years ??? Try 50 years.
No its not. Its old as hell. Looks like crap. If you want a good story read a book.

Being a Gen X and having grandparents who I had a chance to watch all of the movies that were mentioned before 60s and glad you didn't make it about newer ones I respect that and thank you for it.

This really needs to be a top 100 list. So many amazing movies not mentioned.
That's SO True - like the top 20 guitarists of all time - It's gonna leave out SO MANY PEOPLE that SHOULD Also Be Known. Oh well - we weren't expecting perfection when we hit the button anyways. Still, good to know a couple movies I haven't seen, so I have some things to look forward to watching. Peace!!
This is Cinefix's work! They'll get it done.
They should do a top 1000 list on this!!
30 something here, tried to watch The God Father, couldn't get through it. So long, drawn out, does not hold up.
Some other choices:
Rashomon: The film that did what you professed Parasite did (opened up Asian cinema to a wider audience) and it also led to the creation of the best foreign film category and influenced films such as Memento and The Usual Suspects.
The other being Seven Samurai
Taxi Driver - it's influence is still being felt today.
Great call.
I was expecting Rashomon to be on this list. What a disappointment
I agree with Rashomon and Taxi Driver.

I love that "Forrest Gump" and "A Clockwork Orange" are making the lists of other fans.
Stand By Me I understand but The Princess Bride? My parents loves that movie
Parasite, The Dark Knight, and The Matrix are my three movies that I would recommend to everyone. Specifically, The Matrix because it totally shows how we might just be wasting our time on this earth.

If you are a big movie fan, you should also watch Jurassic Park, Leon, and Oldboy.
Forrest Gump would be one of my top choices.
Sleepers should be on this list. Everyone should see it at least once, including teenagers.

Rosemary's Baby...NOPE!!!
On The Waterfront was great. Marlon Brando’s acting in that movie was top notch
I think the pirates of the Caribbean trilogy should get a shoutout here

the original TV version (1963-67).
Unfortunately, the song Singin' in the Rain is forever connected in my mind to the film, A Clockwork Orange. That film should be on this list.
You're gonna need a bigger list

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly should be way higher!
Y’all forgot bout Scarface
I think Oldboy and Scarface should fit somewhere in here.
"The Exorcist" was the scariest book I ever read way back in high school in 1973. Before I ever saw the movie. Hands down scared the shit out of me.
Scared the shit out of my dad. He was six years old in the theaters. Not even my mom could go through it
I'd also like to add to this list ...
You missed The Sound of Music. It ran in theatres for almost two years.
Great List Nice
Life of of Pi should be on this list and is a highly underrated film
