Good on you for looking after these lovely old tools. My father was a fitter and machinist. I recently went through a similar experience with his tools. I cleaned up his old Wiltshire files with vinegar and replaced many handles. Many of his files are tiny, though. Very handy for fiddly work. I also turned some handles up for some chisels that were pretty beaten up, and sharpened/polished them back to life. They live in their own little rack above my workbench and I use them quite a bit. I always feel his love and teaching when I do. Part of my grieving has been to restore these tools, using skills that he taught me. It's a really positive thing. You're going to love using them. :-)
Dear sir, I own a couple of files which have the name "FIRM" and a logo of a light house or something like that and a date 1857.Can you please let me know the manufacturer of these files. Thank you.

Thanks a lot. It's a great way to remember a loved one.
Now, remember kids - always backup your data, don't lose your files.
LOL ...
You sir are a master at your art! Know What Kind of Rare Breed You Are.
Thank you!
On a small project, it's sometimes easier and faster to do a chamfer with a rasp or a file than to set up a router. It's also cleaner and quieter.
Good point. The only challenge is that for most small projects these files are quite a bit oversized...

Sorry - I don't have an answer to that.
Obviously your grandad never used them much, not even a trace of dirt on the handles.
Watch the video. The handles are brand new as they are made by me. 😊
