Thanks Livia, I've watched a few videos on these processes, and yours is definitely the best of them.
It clearly and simply describes the process, with a bit of science too.
    Thank you.

Thank you explaining something I've been trying to understand. I like the way you ask the question first - the very question I'd ask and then you go on to explain. Terrific.

If i slightly dry my oil paint on some cardboard would that be considered lean compared to the paint straight from the tube?

Can u help me understand whether I can paint my 2 nd n 3 Rd layer while it's still wet but following fat over lean principle. Coz I use stand oil so it will become workable after a day or so ...so can I start doing my layers before it completely dries each layers?

awesome video. However my question is what about if you start with say a fat layer and keep every layer the same through the painting or even a lean mixture and just keep painting lean over lean say 50% gamsol to 50% linseed oil but for every layer ? would this be ok. would love to hear anyone's opinion on this :)

Hi Tom, If you are using Gamsol with your medium mixture is a good way to keep it lean. I like using Liquin as well because it speeds the drying rate of the oil paint. I usually use about 25% Liquin and 75% paint. Then the last layer, as I like to explore paint thickness, I don't mix any Liquin. If you are using a mixture of Gamsol and linseed oil, I'd recommend you to increase the amount of linseed oil a bit for every subsequent layer. I'd start with a ratio of 3 parts of Gamsol to 1 part of linseed oil. Then would gradually add more linseed oil to the medium amount I'm using on that session and would make notes to remember! I hope it helps!

How fat is too much fat? If on the top layer i use 80% refined linseed oil + 20% paint, will it crack? The 2nd top layer is +- 60%refined linsedd oil + 40% paint, and i tried to conciouslly use more and more oil for each layer, but then i’m afraid if i’ve used too much oil.. somebody halp

Can you please help me. So I used on first layer liquin, can I use linseed oil for the next layer and the last layer only paint? So did I understand this rule?

    • @danmarsh1337
      @danmarsh1337 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Adding linseed oil will slow down drying time. So putting straight paint last is a bit leaner f a slower drying mid layer. I'd watch the video again, as she explains this. Happy painting.

@@maxmustermannn Here's a trick. Watch it without thinking about it. Watch it again and get the main points. Then watch it a third time and get the details. I was taught that a long time ago when you have trouble with a subject. best wishes.

This is an old question so for anyone with the same problem in future. Linseed oil adds fat to paint. So paint by itself is leaner than paint plus oil.
You should do the final layer with additional oil (more than layer 2).
So it goes liquin + paint
      Then paint + oil
      Then paint + add'l oil
      Or
      Liquid +paint
      Paint
      Paint +oil
Each layer fatter than the last.
If you don't want to use a liquin
      Paint
      Paint + oil
      Paint +oil + more oil
      Hope that helps someone!
