    Your video was awesome. Watched 3 to find a solution to my dishwasher. Ours machine was so very different that it didn't correlate well. But I gotta say that seeing the glass stuck in the part, tipped me off. I took everything apart until I found something that was clogged. And a couple hours in, I found the blade near the motor that was incapable of moving due to a gunk of debri. Thanks a Ton!!!

    I did what you did in stage 1 the other day but couldn’t get the top arm to start spinning. After watching your stage 2 video this morning I was reinvigorated and dragged the old girl out and put her on her front and found that the recirc pump had a small wrapper in the intake covering 90% of the impellers. No wonder the pump wasn’t good enough to get the top arm going. I’ve never thought to record a fit and well dish washer arms spinning so when I saw the bottom arm spinning and water flowing out of the stagnant top arm I just wasn’t sure whether the bottom arm looked fit and well in terms of speed or not.
    Very glad I watched your amusing and inspiring video mate. Thanks again from across the pond 👍

    Best ever videos, thank you!!!! Could you provide some dishwasher repair advice please?
    PROBLEM : 9 year old residential Maytag dishwasher won't clean the dishes , esp. on the top rack.
    REPAIRS DONE SO FAR: Replaced the three spinners - no change in operation -- and then disassembled and cleaned the filters and sump parts from the inside. Archeologists were excited about the prehistoric food particles, small glass chips, toothpicks seeds and scunge. It was loaded with similar -- but more --debris shown in your video with one alarming exception:
    THE EVIDENCE : About a half dozen stainless steel BALL BEARINGS (tiny and shiny, about 0.1 inch diameter) from who knows where were resting in the bottom of the sump.
    QUESTION: Does this indicate that the pump needs to be replaced? Is it advisable to:
    1.) Play sad tunes at the street corner to collect enough cash for the part , or
    2.) Re-assemble everything in the hope that cleaning and maintenance already done is sufficient?
    Sincerely

    • @MervsServiceSecrets
      @MervsServiceSecrets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, all those ball bearings aren't a good sign and since your sump is located in proximity to your recirculation pump, and since it doesn't seem to be pumping with much pressure ... well ... I think you have probably already concluded your investigation with the same theory that I have. RECIRC PUMP! Not a huge cost and certainly cheaper than a new dishwasher. If you think you have the skills to replace it safely, I would give it a shot. Go to my channel's video section and you'll see another dishwasher video on there that might give you some perspective

      @@MervsServiceSecrets Thank you so much. i watched all your videos last night. All of them are great. dishwasher fills, goes through the cycle and then drains but it has not washed a dish. The bottom arm isn't moving at all. Top one goes like crazy. Did a lot of research and I am thinking the recirculation pump. Just had back surgery so it will be about 3 more weeks before I can work on it. Guess I will have to pull it out to get the right part number for sure. The pleasure is all mine. But listen, if the top arm is spinning like a whirlybird, that means water is recirculating to it. Maybe there is just something jammed in that bottom one that's preventing it from spinning?

    Thanks Merv for your wonderful videos. We have been having issues about food particles being left on the dishes , so I followed the process of cleaning up the filter& sump. I came across a small steel propeller in there , not sure its a debris that got in there or part of pump. Appreciate any guidance you can provide

    • @MervsServiceSecrets
      @MervsServiceSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First, be careful. She's sharp! My understanding is that there propeller grinds up the particles and keeps recirculating them over & over again until a device called "the turbidity sensor" tells the machine to discharge the water and add fresh. Did you check those backflow flapper valves I talked about? If they are old or not closing fully, old dirty water & particles could be flowing back into your machine. There is also the matter of cleaning out spary arms & such. You can watch this video for more on that. : th-cam.com/video/lc7rh3ADZUk/w-d-xo.html Good luck. -Merv

    My dishwasher is 16 years old and have noticed no water pressure reaching both upper and bottom bottom arms, only little water coming out of bottom sprinkler arm, is it worth repairing or replacing with new dishwasher ?

    • @MervsServiceSecrets
      @MervsServiceSecrets  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks for watching. My other dishwasher video shows how I unclogged the spray arms. But if you don't want to mess with that, you can just always buy new ones. Basically, every part inside your dishwasher is replaceable. In the end, it depends on how skilled you are at replacing such things. The dishwasher is nothing but a water-proof box, with pumps and sprayers and water circulation devices.

    Thanks for a fabulous and fun video! My 8 year old dishwasher hasn't properly washed dishes in a long time (not filling all the way, not draining all the way) I did the first video about cleaning it out and was AMAZED and how much crude I dug out from the spray arms! Based on the large quantity of missing plastic from the flatware holder, I think pieces of it might have gotten into various places and need to be cleaned. However, I think I have to check out the innards in the second video and have a question about that. Is the water inlet valve the same as the solenoid? Or is the solenoid attached to the water inlet valve? And are those drain flapper valves universal?

    • @MervsServiceSecrets
      @MervsServiceSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The term solenoid valve essentially refers to a fast switch of sorts. When electricity is sent to it, it opens very quickly to let water in. Regarding the flapper valve, I believe many models will accept ones that are universal in size, but ya never know. Maybe do a google search for your make & model number and some good possibilities should come up. Also, unless they are very brittle or damaged in some way, those flappers can be cleaned. Hope this helps. - Merv Himself

    Don’t tell my awesome husband I said so,🤫 ....but there’s something VERY SEXY about a guy that can ‘fix stuff’; even more so if he can teach me how to ‘fix stuff’ and save on repair costs. 😉

    My dishwasher is a hotpoint Model: hda2000g00ww. It is not filling at all but when i open it theirs like a water hitting an iron smell & sound. But when i switch it to drain it sounds like water is draining. Please help a lady out 😔

      When I read your water fill problem I immediately think of the solenoid, and of course then there's the burning smell which is concerning and makes me also think about your recirculation motor or even a heating element gone bad. Perhaps it lets in a little water, tries to do it's job, but when the machine realizes the recirc motor is burned out, it drains out the water? Just speculating here. Wish I could be of more help but perhaps Googling the following issues will steer you in the right direction: "Dishwasher solenoid burning smell", "Dishwasher motor burning smell", "Dishwasher bad solenoid symptoms". Hope this helps, at least a little. -Merv Himself
