    What a great idea to film outside as well as inside - we get to see the difference in the way they catch the light. Big relief to have a video that is sharp and can do good close ups. Also thanks for holding the watches steady so you can view them properly and for not waving them around like flags which drives me crazy. So tempted to buy one but concerned about the accuracy of the movement but you say it's quite accurate so might take a chance! Thanks again for great review.

      People look at the pictures and pick the color they like better, but, with these watches, pictures simply can't seem to do them justice. I picked blue, but, saw a white dial one and really loved it; it isn't just white but a sort of brilliant pearlescence, just as the blue isn't a simple blue, but a stunning gray/blue sunburst. You'll like either one. The sunburst maroon is also beautiful, as is the coffee.

    Hi Bruce, I just bought the blue version a few weeks ago at our local Seiko dealer. Got a GREAT deal. Agree with most of your comments. I do wish the clasp on the bracelet was a bit nicer but for the money it's okay. Cheers John

      How do you like it compared to the grand cocktail?

    • @johnprice909
      @johnprice909 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bruce. Comparing the Grand Cocktail to my blue, well the GC has a much nicer case (more variety of finishes and machining) and bracelet (solid end links, better clasp...). And of course the movement is better. But you'd expect that for the cost difference. If Seiko put the blue's dial in the SDGM case (or SARX case) that would be a winner! I know they made a special edition SDGM some years back with a blue striated sunray dial but I think the blue's dial is nicer than that one's was. But, for the money (I paid less than $360 new) you can't beat these new Cocktail Times.

I should go for a 6R15 for sure as you can still find this version for quite the same price as the 4R35 ones. They're totally beautiful, if you've got a 7 inches (or more) wrist. On a 6 inches wrist like mine they look humongous, which, for a dress watch, is a shame. How has it held up? Been stuck between the brown and blue for a long time now.

    • @demoneyeslaharl
      @demoneyeslaharl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WyvernX_ It still works. I did buy the blue version, and to be honest, I wore that more often because it works with a wider range of outfits and because the Manhattan looks very expensive. Always makes me hesitate bringing that out unless it's a special occasion.
      They are delicate watches, though. My blue one shows sign of scratches on the glass, and since the metal bracelet is polished, wear and tear shows.
      If you're only going to buy one color, you'll have to decide how many times you'll wear them, and your preference. Hope that helps.

    • @WyvernX_
      @WyvernX_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@demoneyeslaharl Yeah it definitely helps, I appreciate you taking the time to respond! Which one I'll get more wear out of has been my main dilemma. Especially since I'm a blue collar worker and rarely get dressed up unless its a special occasion like you said.
      I have a SARB017 that I have enough trouble putting together with outfits as it is, I didn't want another watch that's hard to style even though my heart was definitely set on the brown/rose gold at first.
      One other question though, has the gold plating held up well too? That was another concern.

    • @demoneyeslaharl
      @demoneyeslaharl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WyvernX_ Since I rarely worn it, yes, held up very well.
      Just so you know, both are quite flashy. Not exactly subtle. If you want max versatility, I'd have you look at the white cocktail time. You can pretty much change the feel of that watch just by changing the straps.
      Speaking of Sarb017, just change the strap to a distressed brown leather. That watch is surprisingly versatile and you honestly don't have to worry about matching clothes to it too much. But then again, I'm the type of person that wears the hulk colors (green dial and green bezel) everyday, so maybe I'm biased.

    • @WyvernX_
      @WyvernX_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@demoneyeslaharl Thats fair, I actually been wanting to put the alpinist on stainless steel but then I'm stuck with the dilemma of jubilee or oyster. Sucks being so indecisive lol.
      Also flashy is definitely not a problem. I just wanted to make sure I got enough wear out of whichever I went with. The white is nice too but I already have a Timex Marlin that kinda fills in the white dial "dress watch" role. Wanted more of a unique colored dial but still versatile.

    I waited for sales to start before pulling the trigger. I had a real hard time deciding on which one, white face or the blue. The White face started it all from the Japan version which is what made me fall in love with the watch, but my favorite color is blue. So with the white face and blue mix and the the blue faced one, I said,, I'll take both. White face was $265 and the Blue face was $285 so I didn't think that was bad for two decent dress watches for the office and such. Sure, I could have just spent the money on one watch and got something else, but I wanted variety on my dress watches. Generally, I don't buy dress watched, I do sport watches. My favorite is my G-Shock Titanium. Its my everyday run around.

    Interesting series update for the famous SARB065 Cocktail Time. From that watch you lose the 6R15 movement's 50 hour power reserve and sapphire crystal, but still retain all its beauty of the dial and hands. I am surprised by the bracelet's hollow end links, though. As I stated in the review of the Bambino, I think these are THE watches to consider for affordable but high quality dress watches, but I myself have almost no opportunity to wear one anymore due to relaxed dress standards in today's modern world.
    Great review Bruce and a double thumbs-up for this format of shorter length but still chock full of good information and beautiful production values.

      Agree. My favorite dress watches are always 38 or less. I wonder why companies are trending big. I was surprised when Rolex bumped the DJ to 41

    I just bought the blue one for $289 from Macy's and a $50 rebate. So $239!?

      I saw that offer from Macys (289 USD) but didnt see that 50 USD rebate. How did you got that 50 bucks rebate?

    I don't see how these models are better than SARB033/35.

    Both look stunning. A sapphire crystal and a better movement would have made this the perfect dress watch and if kept at the same price point, I bet Seiko would have a runaway hit that would amaze the world.

    Cosmetic differences in between the new Presage USA line and the quality/detail of my Grand Seikos are subtle, and probably indistinguishable to all but the Seiko informed. This watch looks far more expensive than it is, especially on the nice leather strap I have it on. I've heard complaints about the the bracelet, but I'm not sure how much more it's realistic to expect at this price point. You want Grand Seiko/Rolex quality bracelet? Pony up $5-$10K+ for one. The details on this watch rival my overpriced Rolexes, which don't even have a display back. Truth is, this watch is worth more than I paid brand new, even if it came with no bracelet. This piece is a huge winner, wearable for dress or casual, and I see no reason why it won't be share wrist time with the (mostly far more costly) watches in my collection. Accuracy, durability, value, and quality fit/finish well above the asking price? What more do you want?

    I would love these if they had sapphire. Because for the price, I mean come on.

    40 mm is still Ok even if I prefer 38 mm...great to see a good bracelet on a Seiko...at least the clasp on my SARB033/35 suck...I really dont like the Presage print and why the hell they downgraded from 6R to a 4R movement.

    Warning: If you will be sizing the bracelet yourself - read up on pin and collar bracelets.

    Folded end links in 2017 is absolutely ridiculous, especially on a $300+ watch.

  • @Freeroler
    @Freeroler 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They don't have a sapphire crystal, solid end-links, and still retail for over $400. Because Seiko has finally agreed to least paint the rotor? :)
    The dial is great, but there are too many negatives.

    That raised mineral crystal will get scratched to hell. Would really benefit from a sapphire crystal.

    Normally, I only buy dive watches, but, I just couldn't get these out of my craw. A classic box crystal dress watch in a discrete size made by Seiko, my favorite diver maker?? I just ordered the gray/blue dial cocktail with date sub-dial SSA347J1 and it's on the way. This video sold me.

    Got the blue one for free, because the date wheel was white instead of black, changed it for 15$, and now i have myself a cocktail blue moon for 15$ basically
