I still think theyre the best non elite ranged unit. Best army i ever ran had 40 vlandian sharpshooters, 40 fians and 20 assorted tier 5 archers (i was always just cycling them into garrisons). Sharpshooters will take the front rank, which guarantees you the range advantage. They burn their ammo fast, but when they do they pull out their massive shields and block alot of fire from your other troops, and when the infantry does close, they can hang with any infantry that isnt tier 5 and keep your back ranks shooting. Thats the biggest thing that fucks up how much damage your archers do, being pulled into melee. They often outkilled the fians, and if your in a good enough position to hold their fire and wait for a close range volley on a formation thats been charging and isnt blocking properly it is so satisfying watching them just delete the shit out of a formation in a second
The interesting thing about this; I feel sharp shooters come off good considering they are much cheaper to train. i wonder if dismounting them would make them more effective when charge is made
i would love to see imperial sergeant xbowmen pre armor nerf vs cataphracts and then again post-armor nerf. IIRC they used to have some of the highest tier lamellar armor in the game
I want to know the killing ratio between imperial legionarie and imperial recruit etc. We know 500 recruit can beat 100 legionarie but can 400 still beat 100 legionaire?

If you got the money and horses, save them for legionaries. (Of course if you want an empire only playthrough)

cavalry and spear AI in general needs to be changed, its too shit right now, pikes and long spears cant hit shit
