    been there. i would take the outdrive out first. i would not loose the two lag bolts of the engine mount, when you tight them up in the future, the threads in stringer can come loose. this happened to me. i would just loose the top nut on engine mount. did you try to turn the main pully by wrench?

      I left the outdrive in for now. It's out now actually but I took the engine out first. I tried to spin it over but it was just tightening the center nut on the balancer. I was afraid it was going to snap off in the crank. 😬

    I did the same mistake of connecting the chain to the same thermostat housing eye and I found out that is not intended to hang the whole engine because it could cause damage to the engine. There is another lifting eye next to it where you are supposed to connect the chain.. To late for me, hopefully didn’t cause any damage, and I also remove the log bolts, hopefully I can put them back and they don’t get loose.

      I found that out after the fact as well. It didn't hurt anything on my engine but with the manifolds on the engine they are surprisingly heavy. I guess that lifting eye is for aligning the engine. Basically you bolt in the back of the engine and then lift with that eye so that you can get the front mounts set up. Everything worked out though regardless.

    I understand you motor is from a 1995 boat, but what year chevy motor is this motor based on? Is it based on the 1986 motor? i thought the newer ones are tbi

      I'm not sure exactly. My understanding is the boat engines run a little behind the Chevy automotive engines. I believe you get a mechanical fuel pump, non vortec, hydraulic roller camshaft 2 bolt engine you can look at like an 88-90 or so Chevy pickup. The block number on mine is 638. Hope this helps. 🤞

    Yeah outdrive off first. You’ll never get it back in with the outdrive still on. The tabs on the flywheel cover you mention that don’t do anything aren’t used in any boat this is just to mount the engine to the shipping crate. You can also put it on them on the ground or screw it to a pallet or dolly to run it out of the boat . Good thing to do with any engine before you drop it in.

      Ya the outdrive is out now. It has a worn out gimbal ring so I'm working on that now. I'm behind on my videos. 😢

      That's interesting though. I was wondering what those tabs are for.

      Ya once you see it it actually makes a decent amount of sense how they did it. Don't need to strip all that much to remove or install the engine. Glad to hear it helped you!

    Do you know any trick to get those risers out?

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are just trying to remove the risers (elbows) and not the manifolds? If so, for me, I loosen everything and then pull the risers forward and off of my captains calls. Might be a little different setup on your rig.
