    If it were mine I'd restore it back to original and put either a wedge car-hauler body on it or maybe find and adapt a 1950's era vintage travel trailer/camper body onto it, wouldn't that be slick rig to tow a vintage Chris-Craft mahogany runabout to the lake for a week of camping with? 😊

    • @Xthreadgarage
      @Xthreadgarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The goal is to make it a functional tow-rig. I like the idea of a camper shell. That’d be sweet!!

      Plans for the Reo are big. The big push for us now is to get the 41 running and driving, but there may be a “will it start” episode on the REO coming…..

    I saw a comment under here talking about keeping it on a heavy duty chassis and I agree. You could find a bus or like an f600 with a diesel in it to swap it on to.

    That truck is beautiful and what a great price I wish I could have found it I’d of restored it keep everything the way it is reuse the frame rear everything I could use. I hope you do something nice with it. The best part is you get to do something with your kids take pics videos and have fun with it that’s most important. God bless y’all.

    It's not pronounced R-E-O. R-E-O was a second rate band. REO was first rate, premium quality TRUCK. By the way, the name REO came from the initials of the company's founder, Ransom E. Olds after he sold his original 'Oldsmobile' company and left General Motors to found his own independent car and truck manufacturing company.

  • @wrecksandtech
    @wrecksandtech 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Its R-E-O. It stands for “Ransom Eli Olds”. Just like G-M-C stands for “General Motors Company”. Using initials of car manufacturers is extremely common. Examples: BMW, VW, FCA, AMG, FIAT, SAAB.

    That REO would make a nice ramp truck for someone who moves vehicles.

  • @JosephThomas78

    It would be cool if you kept it a heavy duty chassis, like from a ram 4500 or similar

    It's a shame you seem so against using the original engine and driveline right from the word go. Those Gold Comet sixes can run as smooth as silk and have both surprising power and pretty decent on gas and the 2-speed rear it has is a blessing as well.
    When I was young my mom's boss had a small construction company, and around 1975 he bought a '50 REO Gold Comet very similar to yours, although his had hydralics not air brakes. He bought it from the original owner, a potato farmer in CT who bought it brand new and it was used mostly in the fields and relatively little on the road, and then with Farm Plates on it. It only had 30,000-ish legitimate miles on the day it came in the yard and it ran like a watch and was as straight and rot-free as a razor blade! Only the owner, me, and one other of his drivers were allowed to touch or drive it as we 3 had the gentle touch with the crash box and 2-speed rear. Almost 50 years later and I can still see her in my mind's eye and hear the unique sound of her starter and instantly purring and willing engine. Many of my fondest memories are all the times and miles I spent piloting that REO.
    Consider giving that motor and driveline a chance or you won't know what you missed, or what I'll never forget... ❤

      Thanks for sharing. We are gonna try and get it running, long-term though 🤷🏼‍♂️? We’ll see what we learn and what we like. Thanks for watching.

    In my long ago youth there was 1946 genuine Speed Wagon, red, western, no rust, 14' stake bed, same truck other than flat head engine, seems like gage cluster was in middle of the dash. It was a 45 mph cruiser.

    It's like semi because it is a semi truck, it's a class A truck tractor trailer truck. It looked like it was used for many jobs like dump truck at one point. The dual air tanks are for tractor trailer air system (second tank is for the trailer.

    Fill the cylinders with some tranny fluid let em sit. And while they sit get the carb lubed up and moving then get the points cleaned and get the spark going so you can start it up will help you to sell it anyway plus it’s a great will it start video.
