- AOKZOE A1 REVIEW: • The BIG Reason This Be...
The Ayn Loki Mini Pro is a slick little thing. It’s sleek and elegant. It’s not the most powerful or feature rich gaming PC out there, but it’s coming out with a price that’s not super low but it’s less than the deck, and considering that it’s probably among the cheapest handheld PCs out there it doesn’t have much competition. And it would be competitive, if you could actually buy it, because you can’t actually buy this thing, can you? Well, maybe... let's talk about that!

Only two of us reviewed this, both Canadians, and they delisted it. Coincidence? I think not!
We're a cursed people 💀
Loki Mini Pro Club here boi!!!
And it's -15 out already
recording my review, going to be out next week i think
@@TechDweeb what happens if clone the the drive of Ayn Loki Mini Pro to a a ssd and see what happens if you put ssd in the steam deck
Another super fun video to watch. Great job Dweeb!
Excellent review! I reached out to AYN via discord a few weeks ago for a review unit. Sadly they told me the mini pro is actually discontinued. Its a shame, because In my honest opinion, this device should have been the Loki Zero!
Woah, you also got the Loki Mini Pro before it sold out nice! 😁👍
One's in the subway there came this guy next me while playing on he's steam deck. Playing ender lilies it a big unit but awesome never seen a white one tho. Great video! 🔥
My wife was laughing out loud and had me rewinding this video so many times so she could catch all the Loki moments. I think my favorite is trading a cookie for a pickle...though I do love pickles. GREAT STUFF!!!! I cancelled my Loki Max pre-order due to delays and much more powerful options being released for nearly the same price.
Haha awesome! I love hearing that I gave you some good chuckles :P
I have a scratch like that on mine as well!!! Gonna have to get that eraser out!
I had 1215u with 16gb on preorder for 6 months before it was cancelled. I expected it to be able to play everything up to 2014. It appears it was for the best that I didn't switch to AMD Mini Pro and bought GEEK 1S instead.
I'd love to see you review the Ayaneo Air 1s (the newest Ayaneo Air). It's a bit more pricey than the Steam Deck, but I think it's the best small handheld PC so far. It's also more powerful than the Steam Deck.
enjoyable channel! glad I found it! You really know how to set yourself apart from other retro and handheld channels :)
Just received my Loki Zero about a week ago, incredible feeling device and it's gorgeous.
Looks like it fits nicely in hand and performance is good
It is I can definitely testify to this fact.
I had no idea you got your hands on one of these! I do like mine 🙂
Not mine. It's a loaner. :.(
@@TechDweebIt's a good Handheld too bad it's been discontinued. 😕
Fantastic review
Could you modify the part of the trigger that is making contact with the membrane on the board to make the travel shorter?
The Loki Mini Pro is the Indie/Lite PC Gaming king. The performance ceiling is just high enough to take advantage of the Mendocinos power efficiency at lower TDP'S. This will significantly increase your Battery Life. 😌👌
I like using trackpads for games like Battle Brothers, Wartales, Civ 6 , Gal civ 3-4 , AI War 2, etc. The lack of trackpads is the main reason I haven't got an Ally.
I wished Value would come out with another Steam Controller to use for my gaming PC connected to 65" tv.
based on what i seen on there website they might be fixing things also probably revising the ram but there is conflicting information as it mentions both intel and amd
Not to mention that the Switch has most if not all of those indie games as well. Funny to see Bot Vice on PC.
I really wish they would start to either release just tablets or have a universal detachable controller system
I have my ayn loki mini pro! I would like to see more videos of it and see if I can use a good app for games like steam.
When TechDweeb talks for 90 seconds straight about specs and performance figures, I feel like a baby with keys dangling in front of his face. I laugh and coo. I grab my feet. I make boom-boom. This ... THIS is why I have developed object permanence.
When this handheld was $299, I was super interested in it. But then, they upped the price to $349 which at that point, The Steam Deck official refurbs werent even announced but I knew that it was a bad value. If I could get $350, I definitely can afford an extra $50 to buy a base Steam Deck. But when it was $299, its value was unbeatable and there was nothing else close to it. Refurb base Steam Deck is now $320 and basically killed any chances for this device. I think that Ayn are gonna pull the plug on it soon given the delisting and it has been almost 2 years or at least feels like it since they announced the device.
I like how Loki just mildly inconveniences you, and then feels so proud of himself.
You feel like a smaller channel than you are, in the best possible way. Welcoming, familiar, honest, and intimate. The Loki jokes were so lame they circled back round to being hilarious
Given its only going to be indi and old games would Linux be maybe better something like holo iso or that be a good option 🤔
Might as well get refurbished steam deck when available then ?
The best ayn handheld is simply the odin 2. Most of these games are available on switch and can be emulated on the odin. It also will emulate everything on ps2 or gamecube and give 3-4 times the battery life of a windows handheld.
Was gonna get this but I decided to go for the Odin 2 instead.
I would upgrade my cam by now if i where you. And change lighting a bit, its to yellow for my taste, but maybe you find somehting better there without losing the comforting warmth.
i had really wanted to preorder this when it was available since i just wanted a smaller steam deck and i had hoped this would do. however, after the reviews, it does seem rather underwhelming and i'm glad i skipped it and got the odin2 instead. sure, i won't be able to play older/indie pc titles, but the odin2 is a beast for emulation and it can also play all the android stuff. also, if really do want to play a pc game, i can always just bust out the steamdeck if i have to.
saying all that, i will still be on the lookout for an x86 handheld similar to this, but in the meantime, i think the odin2 will be perfect.
Where did you get your steam deck silicon skin I love it

When Russ revisited the Loki Zero with Batocera, the emulation was vastly improved. That device is weaker than this one I believe, so, I would check out Batocera on this device and revisit the emulation section of this video to see the improvement. I'm going to bet it will transform that experience, and for some, not all, that would make this device better than the Deck. I personally am just waiting for my Odin 2 to get here so that I can free up space on my Steam Deck and put some actual PC titles on it. As of now, it's a loaded one and done emulation device. Either way, ask Russ about it. Wait, you're the Teck Dweeb. Just load Batocera foe yourself😂. You know all about this stuff.
I haven’t ran Batocera on my Loki Mini Pro yet, but I bet you’re right.
Actually Kei’s retro gaming reviewed it too, pretty sure he is Canadian too!! 😂
I dont understand all those companies like Ayn or Analogue or whatever: releasing a product, but its not available to buy.
In this particular case, Ayn said that the product wasn't profitable. It kind of makes sense, given that Ayaneo also had a 7320u model that they were going to sell at an attractive, budget price, but ended up asking $500+ for it (which is a complete waste obviously, especially now that used 6800u handhelds are on the market for near the same price with significantly more power.)
What is that white steam deck shell, sir?

I was one of those people considering the Intel chipset with 16bg of ram... But the cancelled it 😢 Because of this trauma, I am now into pocketable Android or Linux devices (even the Odin2 is oversized for me), and I've found my heaven with the RP2S
Great review of a device I’ll probably never get. You sound under the weather, hope you get better soon!
Yeah I was still sick when I recorded this one. Feelin good today!
I really want an Android handheld that also plays the newer games- not a Linux handheld -because the Steam Deck just appears to be so complicated-so I'm so disappointed that I can't get an Odin 2 😢- & I have to get the Steam Deck instead🙁
Nice mammoth launch TD.
Yes yes. Totally intentional.
How is this device plugged on a monitor, with a keyboard and mouse, as a plain everyday dumb Windows PC? Ain’t the 8GB of RAM too limiting for everyday desktop usage?
It works fine for desktop use. I didn't show it in the video but I played around with it as a windows machine for a bit and it works as you'd expect.
Wasn't paying attention to my monitor on the beggining: video started so seriously that I thought I clicked the wrong video😂😂😂 Awesome as always dweeb.
Can Alan wake 2 run on the Deck?
this was helpful dropping a like
I just bought an r36s as the handhelds that can be brought in the pocket and running ps3 or switch games don't exist, so if i want to play ps3 emulators i'll go with my old gaming pc that would run everything smooth on my 65inch tv, and by the time we'll have great ps3 capable handhelds (in few years from now seeing the fast development of this technology), my r36s and my second gaming pc will be more than enought. I can't think of buying these pieces too expensive for the low performance and poor portability that they propose.
May have good price in the secondary market.
So the $99 Retroid Pocket 2s can emulate games better than this?
Not quite, but almost.
That’s crazy that the $150 retroid pocket 3 plus can emulate better than this thing. Just goes to show how powerful optimization can be for a chipset.
I thought the refurb decks were down at like $320? Yeah, if you want just performance, go for the deck. The advantage to this thing is the size, 1080p 16:9 screen, and battery life. If you're into mostly indies this is a more enjoyable device IMO. If you want pure performance, yeah the deck is the clear winner.
@@TechDweeb Oh I wasn’t talking about the steam deck. I was referring to the retroid pocket 3 plus and that it’s pretty awesome that a $150 device can emulate just as good if not better than the Loki here. The Loki is still a really cool little PC though.
The rp3+ does not emulate better than the 7320u
@@DaGreenDestroyer Judging by the video I just saw this thing couldn’t play almost any ps2 but I can play a ton of ps2 and gamecube on my RP 3 plus.
@@turnbasedtoddy7664 It's strange though, the 7320u has tremendously higher geekbench n antutu score than the rp3+
1:28 😂
I love these smaller handhelds, I just wish they were sold in retail stores like the ROG Ally. Although I just can't decide between the Ally and Legion GO
I'm waiting for legion reviews and maybe a couple of months of testing to see if any hardware problems come out.
The problem with the Rog burning memory cards and the weirdness with frame times put me off.
The Steamdeck is such good value that even with it unavailable here, I would rather arrange shipping through a friend or one of those US shipping vendors than buy something like this. It’s a pity because the Loki is a such a cool device.
Yeah so true. It's kind of baffling that valve hasn't figured out the distribution side of things yet.
@@TechDweeb yup. It's almost like every handheld reviewers dirty little secret - reviewing other handhelds but secretly mostly using a Steamdeck 😀
I have that same ringtone! Lol
Nerds of a feather flock together
most handsome handheld pc
Agreed!
I personally do not think Windows devices really compete with steam deck we need something that runs steamos for actual console experience. That book Name of the Wind is really good just author seems to never finish the series... :(
My personal opinion, skip the Loki Zero get the Loki Mini Pro instead. The Loki Zero is so locked down that you can't adjust the VRAM and SRAM timings or bump the TDP up to 35 Watts like the Win600. The Loki Zero is a waste of money.
Unfortunately, the Loki Mini Pro has been discontinued. The Loki Zero, however, has not. Since neither device is a performance beast, TechDweeb's advice of sticking to indie titles at lower TDPs is a good option.
@@dgevert I just got the news not that long ago. They should have discontinued the Loki Zero instead of the Loki Mini Pro. 😕
My Loki Zero is incredible, I've had both the win600 and the Zero and the Win600 is nothing compared to it.
@@TheGudboi Dude the Loki Zero has half the gaming potential of the Win600. The system's completely locked down with no ability to do any off the things I've said above. Then again if you want Modern Controls on a Handheld that can barely play PC games that's all you sir.
What do you mean, loki zero has dual channel ram, unlike the win 600, and you can change the speed and timings in the bios. I run mine at 3200mt/s but it does almost nothing past 2666, because the apu is shit anyway. 2400->2666 is a decent bump though. Also you can run it at 25W but it does nothing either except get hot. There's nothing to gain after 15W for this chip.
I really wonder if the limiting factor for all these devices is windows. Windows 11 is such a horrible experience on handhelds and such a resource hog, that I wonder if steamOS becoming available (hopefully soon) will just transform these lower end handheld PC's into something that can actually compete.
As it is... I don't see any value in this vs a steam deck and a retroid pocket 3 or other small handheld emulator. Big device for big game, small device for low spec game. I use my deck with my 405m or 35xx, with very little overlap in what systems I emulate between them.
you can clone to a bigger ssd
Not gonna lie the Odin 2 pretty much made the Loki zeros pointless. The power and memory is not going to do anything with pc u can’t do with moonlight on the Odin 2 and the Odin 2 specs are going to crush the same stuff this does with better battery life and cleaner ui. Not to mention the fact that the Linux dev cycle as already begun for the Odin 2 max
It would be great if SteamOS were released for devices like these
For what? To not be able to play 100% of the Steam catalogue without any dumb Proton compatibility issues? No thanks
ChimeraOS is a pretty good substitute and should work pretty well on this.
@@3godzilla3 At this point, most of the incompatible titles are due to anti-cheat issues on multiplayer titles, or in some cases, dev studios that just refuse to play nice (Destiny 2, etc). Of course, those kinds of games probably aren't really the intended target of someone who buys a budget model like this that excels at indie games. For this purpose, a SteamOS variant is probably going to work great.
Meh, if you want something small I'd go for a Android device personally. I feel like the Steam Deck is as small as you can go while still having decent performance with a x86 chipset.
There has to be something going on here.. no way this should not be able to play PS2 etc. I think Russ did a video on a similar device and added Batocera and performance was MUCH better.
Hey tech dweeb ...love the channel ...cheers
Sounds like this would be great at $300. Shame it isn't. If this was an OLED screen though $350 would likely be fine.
Just 8GB of ram, that's ridiculous! It's 2023, that should be illegal and punishable by sticking barnacles to the manufacturer's ceo's feet!
As for the emulation performance though, unless those 8 gigs are a limiting factor, I've seen much better from an Athlon 200GE. No issues playing Mario Kart on Cemu for example. Heck, I've had better performance in the F-Zero GX on my i3 4130 Batocera machine! There might be some more oomph in that Loki thing, but the drivers may be the limiting factor. Also, that tdp behaviour just might change with a bios update or a few, I hope. It is a completey new AMD product after all.
AYN locked down ALL their PC Handhelds. 😕
@@Pridetoons locked down in what ways? No bios access at all, or limited bios settings, no dual booting? They should still be able to provide bios updates that could influence performance. For example, HP provides them through Windows update.
It's a nice handheld, but you can get refirb steam decks for 399$.. and always in stock
Much larger though, the main idea of these is that they're actually much smaller.
@@TheGudboi not that much larger and more performance ! so worth it
The Steam Deck has horrible software compatibility and it's WAY bigger than the Loki Mini Pro. 😕
Your channel slaps
Can you review Loki Max @techdweeb
Logitech G cloud :)
Why can’t we buy it?
Hi.
My Steam Deck gets used for more casual stuff, AAA titles I gravitate to my gaming pc. So lesser specs don't bother me. The memory decision is confusing.
NGL that honestly seems like a waste of a Steam Deck. Do you at least Emulate older consoles on your Steam Deck?
I'm with ya. Handheld gaming PCs in general are more for indie games for me.
@@TechDweeb Yep
that performance is really bad, gonna be real.
you said the battery life was really good, but can you estimate/quantify it for me please?
Assuming 8W TDP, give about another 8W estimate for the rest of the device, so 16W per hour. This has a 46WHr battery, so probably can expect around 3 hours or more when playing indies or low TDP emulation.
Depends on the TDP though but when running with a 4w tdp the chip only actually pulls 2-3w. If you have the screen not at full brightness you can be looking at over 5h of battery like that. But if you're running at 8-10w (do NOT go up to 20, no point), you're in the 3ish hour range.
Cant game without rgb
It literally doesn't even work
Then i will take the Asus Rog Ally cheaper one✌
Perhaps tech dweeb can review Loki Zero with the chimera OS that one can put in which supports Steam and emulators like a console.
Sup ? Sucks that you can't buy this I was waiting for a review before I ordered guess I missed out
If anyone wants one let me know i got it and i dont use it!
I would rather just buy a switch
Waited for nearly a year for mine but finally reeled in this white whale - that only comes in black evidently.
I think the Odin 2 is actually more powerful than this guy, shame PC games never really get ported to android. Can't wait until the Skyline team has their PC Emulator for android ready
