A few years ago, I was homeless. I'm not an addict, I had a mental breakdown. A good friend that helped me during my initial recovery bought me a tent, the council said I wasn't a priority for housing. I pitched the tent out of town and only saw the good in people, if Debs hadn't bought me a tent I may well have been befriended by the addicts and finished up joining them. I now work with addicts.
Sucks that the government don’t do more to look after it’s most vulnerable but I’m glad you’ve managed to get through those tough times, hope you’re still doing well ✌️
Very true. Gentrification over the last few years has changed the town massively. I can safely say very few locals can afford to buy homes in the town now due to the English gentrifiers… :/
I dont know what the answer is for Cornwall. I wanted to move there many years ago but wouldn't touch it now. I dont even want to visit anymore. There is a nasty undercurrent of lawlessness, as if people think because its stuck far away from everywhere else they can get up to whatever they want with nobody finding out. Also seems to be a lot of angry people there, hate tourists, hate the second home owners, low paid jobs, extortionate property prices, a deprived area for many. Drugs and alcohol problems rife. Unprovoked violence, gangs of youths causing trouble on estates. Really not appealing.
I moved here in 2014… every word is true of that comment. Cornwall really is the bumhole of the UK, the amount of sexual assaults on children and abuse of disabled people is astounding too, without doubt it is culturally retarded, they hate homosexuals and people of colour and there is a unbelievable blame culture here… the amount of illiteracy here is also mind boggling, failing schools along with unemployment and people who are benefit cheats doesn’t breed a great culture. Most people don’t even recycle in my town, in fact our neighbours laughed at us and said ‘you one of they recyclers’… these are not opinions, there are statistics to back up the illiteracy and the failings of the schools, the abysmal health care (try getting a dentist here) and you can probably look at stats for the abuse and pedophillia somewhere, my partner types up the case files for this stuff and even our nextdoor neighbour is on the ‘at risk to children register’… not somewhere you want to bring kids up… we are saving up to get the hell out of dodge! Cornwall = beautiful place, mostly terrible people and massively underfunded. Do yourselves a favour and go to Spain for a holiday. Oh and my job for the same company is 6 grand a year more in Birmingham, and it’s cheaper rent
Thing is you get this from great Yarmouth to Penzance and from Glasgow to Brighton. Even Oxford and Cambridge where you have homeless people you get the drugs and the dealers. One probablys is that if there free food and and handout the homeless will keep coming. But saying that where do they go. Most of them have had a sh.. life
